Hard Candy

Recommended Posts

so I saw this movie Hard Candy today at the art house theater in town, and it was a hell of a movie. For those who haven't heard of it, it's about a 14 year old girl and a 30-something year old guy who hook up online, meet in person, go back to the guy's secluded house, and it turns out they're both fucking crazy. The bulk of the movie is just the two of them (it's got a cast of 5, and the third billed person's got like 2 minutes on screen), and the two actors do a hell of a job. Subject matter aside, I'm really surprised this isn't getting more of a release.

So, anybody else seen this yet?

I haven't seen it yet, but I check the movie listings every week hoping that I'll find it listed as playing somewhere in town. Really looking forward to seeing it. It sounds like it is very good and very intense.

It got expanded to 150 screens and tanked.

Hmph. Maybe if they'd advertised it once or twice it would've done better. I only knew about it because I saw the trailer on the On Demand trailers section

I heard about the movie from a USA Today article about Ellen Page, the movie's star (she's gonna be in X-Men 3), and from Ebert & Roeper.

The movie is seriously fucked up and you should go see it if it's playing in your city.

I've seen the trailer, read reviews, and know that's all I can do until it drops on DVD. We never get anything like this here. Our city's usually only graced with cinematic gold like Stick It or Scary Movie 4.

At any rate, definitely seems like a movie that a lot of people would write off as crap just because of the premise. I know if it were here I'd probably have to go see it solo.

I want to see it, but it's a hard movie to get someone to go with you to.

That's no excuse.
