VERY pedestrian first half for the Steeler O-side. Parker can run, but the Raven pass rush is abusing the right side of the Steeler line and Ben is just plain off. D is bottling up the run just fine, though, and if they get more pressure on Wright, they'll be fine. He withers under the rush and Hampton is murdering their center enough to be a severe cause for concern for Raven fans.

Unghhh.

Of course I talk up the Steeler secondary, and they come out blowing coverages left and right. The announcers were wrong on that last play, though; Mason wasn't open, Pola was baiting Wright to throw it to him. You could see him break on the receiver at the last moment, and he's got enough of a vertical leap that he probably would've pick sixed it.

I'm not really *that* surprised. The Ravens are always jacked for the Steelers and their D is gameplanning for Kendall Simmons' weakness.

Christ almighty, the Steeler O looks out of sync other than Fast Willie. El needs to make that catch, and they need to get some production out of people other than Ward and Miller.

The Steeler secondary is also making a case that it might be the best in the NFL, which doesn't hurt their chances. Watch Ike Taylor tonight if you get a chance (#24). He's going to be the next great corner in the NFL.

Yeah, but it's a hindsight decision. I didn't agree with it at all (thought it was spineless), but if they had come back and won, everyone would've praised him for it.

Cowher has never had a franchise quarterback, either. I'm not the biggest Cowher fan in the world (far from it), but how far would the Pats go with Rohan Davey as their starter, yet alone KORDELL STEWART or MOMMY MADDOX? Last year, Ben was a rook. It was a given that he'd fuck up at some point. But, I still think the jury is out on Cowher; Ben has shown that he's an accurate enough passer to keep defenses honest (and then some), and now that he's got a legitimate threat in Heath Miller to complement Hines Ward and the smurfs, they could be ready to take the next step. Believe it or not, I actually think this game is very significant tonight. They need to prove that they can beat a team they're supposed to beat (ala Houston) on a big stage. I think, though, that this could actually be the year for the Steelers (of course, I'm a naive little Stiller fan). They've got two glaring weaknesses at RG and WILB, but they've got solid enough supporting players to make up for those weaknesses.

As BruiserKC said, he can do whatever he wants if he's salaried. But, if he's hourly, the company can prevent him from doing that. The only way the government comes into the picture, though, is if he's forced to work the overtime.

He scores, at least. Doesn't bother playing defense (although, he had a nice play to break of a Kovalchuk shot that probably would've beaten Caron tonight), but he's got a nice shot.

Also, after reading that, I noticed that I called Gonchar a defensive defenseman inadvertantly. He's not, but he hasn't really played defense worth shit over the last nine. Hell, he hasn't really played offense until the last two, for that matter.

After watching almost every single Pens game, I'd say it's less Tarnstrom's fault than Gonchar, Odelein, and Orpik before tonight. The thing is, when the defensive defensemen can't even play defense, well, you're in trouble. Throw in the fact that guys like Palffy and LeClair refuse to play defense and you've got some problems. Crosby is amazing, though. He's drawn a ridiculous amount of penalties in the last two games. It's amazing to watch.
