And he's Hispanic, so he fits with the team model. One step closer to Los Metropolitanos!

Mets trade Guillermo Mota for Johnny Estrada. http://rotoworld.com/content/HeadLines.asp...B&hl=226534 Love it. Estrada's no great shakes, but to get something - anything - out of Mota is a clear win to me. The fact that it's a switch hitting catcher to compliment Castro makes it even better.

No fooling? Guess Mark Shapiro isn't as familiar with his team's history as he should be. Hilarious.

Indians sign Japanese reliever Masahide Kobayashi to a two year deal with an option for a third. Value of the deal appears to be unannounced for now. Kobayashi is the team's first Japanese professional ballplayer ever. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...rtnered=rss_cle
  6. It's nice that I'll be too gone on a post-Thanksgiving dinner high to care too much about the result of the Jets game this week.
  7. I love my brother and nearly everyone on my dad's side of the family, save for my racist great uncle, who incidentally lives in one of the blackest areas of Brooklyn. Makes a mean penne alla vodka, though. I'm pretty much indifferent to my mom and her side of the family, who I've never really related to or shared many interests with. I get along with them fine during mandatory family events (Thanksgiving and Christmas), but I don't go out of my way to make contact with them. It doesn't help that my mom was basically single-handedly responsible for her and my dad's divorce.

When you highlight a stage after completing all its levels, it'll tell you how many stars you can gather from that stage. Normal star outlines indicate ones from hidden areas or stars that Luigi will retrieve, while stars with a comet tail are ones that can only be gathered when a comet is in orbit around the stage.

I've read that the Twins like him a lot and are willing to deal excess pitching, so that's definitely a possibility.

Martinez is generally regarded as the Mets' best prospect, yeah. Eighteen year olds that can hold their own in Double A don't come along very often.

Actually, in most cases those stars are in hidden areas that you just haven't discovered yet, or can only be gathered when Luigi goes to retrieve it and you have to go rescue him.
  13. I heard about this for the first time on NPR today. Very cool, but it's not something I'd buy even if I had the money. I like the feel of an actual book too much.

Rosenthal's in on it too. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7461986 Considering that the other options appeared to be Eckstein, Iguchi, or trading arms for Hudson, I don't mind the signing at all. If I understand the situation correctly, much of the damage to Castillo's knees occurred due to Minnesota's Astroturf, so hopefully health won't be as much of an issue going forward.

It appears that the Mets and Luis Castillo have agreed to a four year deal worth twenty-five million. http://www.impactodeportivo.com.do/?op=dis...amp;format=html I know the link's in Spanish - the summary's at MLB Trade Rumors. If it's true, that's not a bad deal. Not crazy about the length, but I can certainly live with 6.25 million a year.
  18. Besides New England, this was the last remaining game I expected the Jets to win. The defensive line was just terrific today, racking up nine sacks while keeping Parker and Roethlisberger under control. Clemens wasn't great, but he came up big on that drive near the end of the fourth quarter (which would have won the game if Brad Smith was a halfway decent receiver) and he was working most of the game without Coles. Also, it was pretty frustrating to see the Steelers constantly pooch kicking and the Jets having no response to it, but when Washington finally did get his hands on the ball, he pretty much single-handedly won them the game. And there's still the fact that Mangini keeps making ridiculous mistakes, such as wasting two time outs and forcing Pittsburgh to redo the punt in the fourth quarter. Can't complain too much, though, since I went into the game expecting the Jets to lose by 20 or so.

Even though the deal was supposedly already done, it appears that Torrealba has not and will not be signing with the Mets now. http://www.newsday.com/sports/ny-spmets111...0,6599370.story Strange, but you won't hear me complaining.

http://www.newsday.com/sports/baseball/met...0,2887202.story Confirmed. 3 years, 14.4 million for Torrealba. Really disappointing. I have no idea what Minaya sees in this guy. Yorvit's and Castro's contracts should be swapped. I shudder to think what'll happen to Torrealba's already anemic offense in Shea Stadium.
  22. They're not even waiting until the end of the game. Arizona might risk forfeit if these people get out of control.
  23. And immediately after virtually putting the game away, Arizona coughs it up. It's getting a little ridiculous with the reviews, even if it looks like this call might be overturned as well.

I'd be just fine with the signing of Torrealba if it was to a modest contract for a backup position. Three years and (from what I've heard) fifteen million AND he's going to get most of the starts? Blech. From what I've gathered, Minaya went after Yorvit 'cause he's supposed to be "fiery" and he calls a good game. Intangibles!

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball...-3.html?ref=rss Mets sign Ramon Castro for two years/four million dollars. That's a bargain, but I guess they'll make up for it with the money they're gonna throw at Torrealba.
