Pretty much, there is no way of knowing if you're going to kick into heartless mode. Oh and if anyone wants a really fast way of leveling up, go to the pridelands, to the place where you fought scar. I went from level 80 to 99 in half an hour or so.

Hm, it happened to me in Port Royal and that's it. Also I am wondering how do you get Mickey to come save you after you die. It's only happened in Beast's Castle for me, once against the prison door and twice against Xaldin.

That happened to me once. I assumed it was because of an enemy spell.

Just beat Xaldin. I used Beast at the start then switched him with goofy halfway through since knocksmash seemed to do more damage. It was mostly just taking the damage and healing/curing then fighting back with a limit/wisdom drive afterward. I used learn every now and then to score some free hits. Still I needed two Mickey assists to beat him.
