Out of curiosity, are any Zatoichi DVDs available on Netflix? I remember I was looking for a few once and came up empty-handed (and yes, I'm too lazy to load up another window right now and search myself).
As for the One Armed Swordsman films, those were just recently released by Celestial's Shaw Brothers Collection (R3) in their own right.
As for Kitano's Zatoichi, I had wanted to wait until I was more familiar with the character/earlier films, but seeing as how there's over 20, and I had a tape of Kitano's my girlfriend's brother dubbed for me months ago that I hadn't seen yet, I decided I'd give it a shot. Decent, some all right fighting scenes. Interesting ending, although I have no idea how they got there. I'd see it again, with subtitles or my girlfriend this time
It's another MiramAXE title, so we'll probably see it in two years. Too bad, as it was supposed to receive a much wider theatrical release this summer than the two or three New York theatres it was booked in. Fucking MiramAXE.
And I heard a lot of hype over Oldboy after last years Cannes and it's been dead ever since. Is it even available on DVD anywhere?
ZvsY is number 20, and they have the first 19
they also have a couple of the other movies
