The b-plot with Jim and ping pong did absolutely nothing for me except make Kelly even less likeable. She's a complete and utter cunt. And they ignored the obvious solution of trying to convince Dwight to play Darryl at Ping Pong.
The deposition, however, was painful to watch in the best possible way. It was fantastically written, with Michael getting it from both sides and completely not knowing how to deal with it. The "that's what she said" confusion was funny, but was also a nice character thing and a little sad, especially after the closing credits from last week (which is steadily becoming one of my favorite scenes from the show). He does the "that's what she said" joke to, as he said, releave tension and it totally hits a wall and ends up making things worse.
What I think should have happened was mix and match these past two episodes. Have the deposition be the reason Michael is out of the office while Jim is in charge and becomes Michael, and then combine the Michael in the Woods with Jim Plays Ping-Pong to get the sub-par stuff out of the way. Yeah, it'd make one pretty bad episode, but it'd also make one really great episode, IMO.
