The Smackdown thread for June 2, 2006.
RedJed replied to Open the Muggy Gate's topic in The WWE Folder
I think Miz could work as some sort of "host" for the show, but he has GOT to stop that fucking hoorah shit. That really gets extremely annoying and unless they are going to try to turn him heel from this, I can't imagine anyone in creative actually entertained by him spouting that tagline after damn near every sentence. Miz has the energy and even somewhat of the charisma to get over, but they better be careful about how they try to portray him, as it could easily backfire. Anyway I really liked the show last night. The crowd was responding well to things too, which shows that they are doing alot of things right on this show right now to me. Lashley is getting over finally and Angle really went out with a bang via a hell of a match with Rey that put Angle over excellent in his more badassish persona than he even had before. I'm really interested in Angle working ECW. I dunno if it is because they are kind of hotshotting things right or not, but I liked that the show didnt seem so formula produced, meaning it seemed a bit more unpredictable from a straight production standpoint. -
Fuck yeah, I'm there. Did you go the house show they did back in 2000 there? Definately was a fun show to be at. Will no doubt be going to the LaCrosse show and the Minneapolis show too.

I'd say if she's not talking to you anyway via email or phone, who the fuck cares? Let him have the number, it's obvious it's someone fuckin around with you and its not who they say they are, so isnt it worth trying to get some answers? Instead you are just going to keep being self loathing towards yourself and the situation, probably thinking you scared her off, etc.

Since Nitro pretty much has jobber written all over him after jobbing to Cena immediately, they probably want to consider moving Melina and Nitro over to ECW, and then when Mercury "recovers" move him there too and try re-pairing them up. I can just tell from Raw that Nitro and Melina alone just isn't going to fly, long term. And having Nitro flounder on Raw until Mercury returns is just going to be a negative, so why not move him over to ECW to feud with whoever? My first guess was the fake Kane was Terkay, since they just signed him out of nowhere and they had to have a reason to do so. He has that type of hair that was sported there too, assuming that wasnt a wig he was wearing. Test is so jacked up these days, there was no way that was him, same with Snitsky. I'm pretty much in the sentiment most have here about Vince right now. He can work if he isn't overexposed, but everytime he comes back on air, it seems like that is the case. Next weeks show is so predictable with the Vince-HHH stuff it doesnt even make me remotely interested to tune-in. That opening segment was so fucking boring to say the least. And why cant Coach just be a fucking manager to whomever and leave it at that? His ass kissing "assistant" role didnt work the first time w/ Bischoff, it wont work here. Pissed me a bit off to see them throw the GM deal aside --- its like, why even announce it if you are going to just bait and switch? Well, I guess I just answered my own question there. The ECW stuff should have been huge news tonight but the way they went about it, it just seemed real flat. I think alot of it just has to do with teh crowd responses, which are confusing at best. I dont get how this seemed to work in WWE storylines/programming last year, and this year its just "eh" from a live crowd perspective since the angles they are pulling this year to build to the show seem stronger than last. They are going to need some good damn explanation in storyline mode for bringing Angle over to ECW after he was one of the heels against them last year, though. Regardless, I still think its a great idea to have Angle in ECW though, its just too bad Daniel Puter is basically blackballed from WWE as Heyman could probably book an Angle/Puter feud tremendously.

If they are going to give Kash and Noble a new tag team gimmick, the least they could do is put a match on Smackdown against Gymini or London/Kendrick for the tag belts. It baffles me that they just started this out of nowhere. Actually that team might be a cool thing to bring into the ECW brand, Pitbulls 2006. I would assume both of those guys will be sent there anyway. Biggest non surprise in quite some time that Masters is on the juice (and get rid of him while we're at it) and with Mercury, I could see them maybe moving him to ECW possibly. Oh and I am thinking Dusty Rhodes for GM and that Shantelle chick is cute as fuck
-
The only thing that needs to happen in this situation is Marvin needs to call this chick up and see what her deal is. If they can have some good conversation over the phone, maybe its worth meeting up with. But my gut says this chick is bullshitting this whole story just because she is scared to meet him.

Poseidon is a good date movie - lovey dovey shit in it too, but then again so does MI3. Either one is a good date movie. Bottom line, you got your chance now full out - just be chill and see what happens. If she starts dropping body language hints when you two hang out, dude - you better fucking go for it because if you dont, there is your chance you had to maybe get into a relationship and you might not have it again if the first time is a letdown for her or she just generally sees its not going to go anywhere because of your lack of taking control of the situation. She seems from these messages genuinly interested in you and considering all the shit you've been throwing her way with the back and forth behaviour, consider yourself very lucky you still have this chance. Make the most of it, period!

Not sure if its been reported otherwise, but I just found out today that SR is going to be in 3-D at IMAX locations. Rock f'n on

I checked it out over the weekend, of course had to get massively baked for this one, and taking into account this wasnt going to be a well thought out production, I went into it looking for some fun gore/kills and campiness and I pretty much got it. Otherwise there is no way you can even come close to liking this one, has to be taken with a similar mindset that one would have while watching a Troma movie or something. So bad and campy that its borderline entertaining at times. Also, another positive was that the special effects werent too bad overall and they did seem to spend a good amount on them. I still wouldnt bother going to see this in the theater though - easy DVD pickup though for campy horror fans if you ask me.

So has this actually been a good ppv to anyone who's watching it? It sounded weak on paper and surprised to hear the results are somewhat good.
-
Well I'll be damned, Jarrett jobs to Joe completely clean.

It doesnt matter if they are turning a profit finally or not, this company needs some serious motivation, whatever it takes, to get their asses in gear and start putting on a top to bottom kick ass product. The workrate is there, and I think it basically lies with management overall (or a lack thereof) and the booking is too basic and it never gets characters or feuds over. Their identity is non-existant and if they don't do something now, I fear when ECW comes back into the fold, this company is going to have some serious troubles. Cornette needs to be involved in the writing intially to see what he can bring to the table. The current booking committee is spinning their wheels basically if you ask me. Can you tell the product is boring me?
-
Ugh, what happened to Smackdown being a pretty damn entertaining show? Once again the spoilers are showing a complete dissapointment in the results, and now we're going a full month at least like this. Definate downturn in the SD product right after that first SD after Mania, which was a very good show. Rey has to beat Bradshaw now or the whole point to give him the belt (to get him over) is completely lost. They'd just have to send him back down to CW division if he jobs out now at the ppv. Losing to two big men in non-title matches relatively convincingly and more importantly, CLEAN - should justify a rub at the big show. Bottom line - Bradshaw can handle a loss (since he shouldnt even be in the main event position in the first place, for one thing) but Rey most certainly cant at this point. They should then consider Rey v. Booker at GAB, and THEN give Booker the belt, leading to Booker/Batista at SummerSlam.

They tied in season one and two flawlessly tonight - this must have been the plan of action from the beginning of the series, or at least it was done so slickly and smartly in its execution, its irrelevant anyway as it was just plain damn good TV. It was just one HOLY SHIT after another for that last half of the finale tonight. And I really thought they killed off you know who, but not - MAJOR swerve. Speculation what that cliffhanger was all about? Has to do with death would be my guess...major payoff to find his killer? Definate thumbs way up for this entire season, and definately in agreement in one of the best season finales I've ever seen from any show before. I honestly did not see the killer as him, came out of total left field but it all made complete sense, tied up EVERYTHING damn near.

Well so far they are 2 for 3 on the Thurs deal - the first show was GREAT, one after that IMO was not very good at all, but then last weeks definately delivered. Everyone has good points about why this Thurs slot might work, but I think there is still a large issue in that they start so damn late at the night that even a solid TUF lead-in makes people slowly tune out casually the later it gets. I dont care how great the show could be, I think it still might happen just because it gets so f'n late and its a weeknight, so thats a given that people need to crash at a decent time to get up for work the next day, etc. Its REALLY hard to get used to generating a weekly fanbase to a product when its so damn late like that too. TUF on Spike as Raw as the lead-in was a bit different because you had 3 to 4 million watching the end of Raw, whereas TUF doesnt even have half of that nearin the end of their Thurs show to support the TNA following it. With that said it really bugs me Spike has a fucking highlight UFC show on before TUF which can really and should be aired after TUF instead, as that show is on constantly all week long and it always generates about the same rating constantly (heard always about .4 or .5 on it). If they want to keep the UFC audience, then have that AFTER TUF and TNA could be a nice early lead-in to TUF, because the wrestling before UFC combo worked before with Raw better than the opposite way. I dunno, I could be wrong and having a 8c/9p TNA slot wouldnt still put a dent in the ratings, but I would tend to think it very much would. More people are flicking through channels around that time versus 10c/11p.

The Ongoing TNA Global Impact Thread
RedJed replied to UseTheSledgehammerUh's topic in TNA Wrestling
Speaking of Xplosion, they should just have THIS show replace it, as I dont even watch the damn show anymore (I have it on my dish from Sun Sports) because its so pointless. Its moreless Impact material with Borash yapping his gums w/ guest host in between segments. And then the one exclusive match a week - which can stay, but the rest needs to be more original content for that show like it is here. Just a thought. -
Cmon, both of them aren't just doing crotch chops and then having a staredown on the last Raw just for the fuck of it. They are clearly going to this direction, or at best/worst (depending how you look at it) they are strongly teasing it to test the waters of HHH turning face, which seems apparent. Also, the running idea, if they reform a DX alliance, is that HHH and HBK will be the leaders of the group, but they will have 2-3 others joining up to get a rub from being with them, such as Orton and Batista got a rub from Evolution - which some may argue with, but the fact of the matter was they were elevated from the connection, bottom line. With that said, I dont mind a DX reunion if done in this manner. And I am enjoying WWE about 70 percent of the time. Apparently that is a crime around this neck of the woods these days! But Raw has a feeling of very strong unpredictability, which is what this product does need right now. And on Smackdown we normally at least had the workrate there, but the last 3 or so weeks has seen that product take a strong turn for the worse, IMO.

PPV was $20 I think, not that bad but could have and should have been cheaper. I did stop watching the show entirely, though, during the Midnight Express match and have just been so busy lately havent had time to watch the rest of that one and the really lame sounding main event. Probably be best if I just NEVER watched the rest of this so I'd still think of the show in a positive light!
-
Sounds horrible on paper, SD was on a good streak of decent shows for awhile, but the last 2-3 weeks have kind of struggled.
-
They pretty much singlehandedly hit a home run with that Styles promo if you ask me. It was very close to reality, and close enough where I think it was so well done because Styles pretty much was speaking from the truth. I am shocked they actually went through with it because it exposes WWE to a degree, but it really IS necessary to do this to start up the ECW brand, and in the right way - the same way the whole brand was established anyway, as a competitor to "the others" and under a renegade like theme. So far to start the ECW tie-in, they are on a very VERY good track if you ask me. I expect the ONS show much more top notch than last year if that promo last night is any indication, in terms of the build for it. Other than that, the show pretty much blew. The HBK/HHH interaction shows that I wouldnt be surprised to see a DX reunion in a few weeks time maybe.
-
They need to advertise themselves more - I know its been said over and over but they need a strong marketing team (which the WWE clearly has) to compliment the product. Til then, who knows - they may never get to where they want to be without it.
-
Page and Kanyon have a really solid match on here as well, *** 3/4 for sure. Announcers did some good work talking up this as some sort of huge grudge match of sorts.
-
It was one of those weekends were there wasnt any huge films coming out in prep for May, so the low numbers dont surprise me. RV looks like the antithesis of just barely stratching the surface of a DVD rental. Sentinel was a pretty good flick, as I did check that out over the weekend myself. I wonder how it will fare next week, as I felt this has a much better shelf life than something like SM4 or even Silent Hill.

Vamp/Colon was a tremendous match, didnt expect the workrate there and got it bigtime. Carlos beat the fuck out of Vamp after the match, good match to play into caribbean wrestling. Just showed REALLY old footage of Kamala, almost when they debuted him in a vignette (which I have no idea what organization he started with). Now Kamala v. Jake Roberts, who actually is not drunk or anything like Heroes of Wrestling. For once Roberts doesnt look like hell froze over. They also had a Greg Valentine v. Snuka match that saw some guy dressed up like a Nash imitation called DNA do a run-in for Valentine. How the fuck this guy got on a legends show makes no sense. That run-in from whoever that jabroni ended up being was really the only bad part of this show so far.

I dont see the big deal - Ross coming back to replace Styles is imminent anyway since its clear they are going full time with ECW. He'd need to get off Raw within the next month regardless. They need to get the angle going for ECW returning probably already this or next week and they might as well not waste anytime, so look at it more like that and more that Ross doesnt suck or not. Who's to say Styles still might not be announcing tonight with Lawler and Ross still? That might be alright, as they appear to be moving Coach (or considering it) over as a manager possibly. Then they can actually build a possible Styles "turning ECW" on commentary even by being pissed Ross is taking over head announcing and reverts to his "ECW style" of announcing, and hell, even openly play into reality and use the excuse of trying to be taught "WWE style" by Ross on his headsets drove him "back home."
