Can't disagree with much of that, although I wonder about the Fiesta Bowl picking Boise State to get a rematch of the Oklahoma-Boise State game from last year. It would probably get a good amount of media and fan interest. How did Boise State do last year in terms of bringing fans to the game? Even if they didn't do as well this year, I'm sure Oklahoma's fans would pick up some of the slack.

Very possible scenario (and pretty much what I hope happens, i.e. the Ducks in the championship game), but doesn't the Big East champ (WVU) traditionally play in the Orange Bowl if not selected for the title game, or has that tie-in been dropped? Also, what's the selection order this year, because I imagine the Sugar Bowl would want Florida if they had the chance to pick them.

At this point it looks like there are basically 4 teams fighting for spots in the title game (OSU, LSU, Oregon, and Kansas), with everyone else needing at least 3 of those teams to lose. I'm sure Iggy will provide us with a more detailed analysis soon.

Despite Standford being not good... Michigan lost to App. St. No BCS team should be in contention for a national championship after losing to a Playoff Series Team. Which is prolly why they aren't listed as a longshot. The computers don't seem to make a distinction between them though, and the voters seem to be forgetting about it. Now, what could happen is that if it looks like Michigan has a shot at the title game, the voters will drop them on purpose just to prevent that from happening. And while this whole discussion about Michigan is pretty much pointless, it does raise an interesting general question: are there any teams out there who the voters might possibly lower strategically at some point, to prevent them from making it to the title game if that seems likely?

If USC is still a longshot, shouldn't Michigan also be listed as one at this point? They obviously wouldn't get in over most 1-loss teams, and would need several teams to lose twice, but they are already reasonably high in the BCS and they do have a showcase game left against Ohio State. Now, I'd bet everything I own that neither of those teams makes the title game, but I don't really see one having a major advantage over the other.

That depends on who they play there. If it's Oregon then definitely, otherwise it's hard to say.

Michigan is not a contender unless almost no teams finish with 1 loss or less; that loss to Oregon is forgivable, but the App. State game pretty much kills them.

Georgia is probably in the mix as a longshot after today, if they can get to the SEC title game with 2 losses and beat LSU or Alabama. They would obviously need a lot of help.

Vanderbilt beats SC which should eliminate them from the BCS title picture, Cincinnati loses to Pitt so they are done, and Oklahoma wins a crappy 17-7 game against Iowa State that could cause them drop a bit in the polls. Interesting start to the day and most of the big games have only just begun.

I felt an urge to sneak over to the Pit, and wasn't disappointed. In other "upset watch" news, South Carolina is down 17-6 to Vanderbilt at the half.

I believe I read somewhere that although there was no official line, if you looked at the right place you could get a 28 point line on that game.
