I'll try and get mine after work today, if not then, early tomorrow.

I think the Pulver/Faber fight epitomizes everything that a fight should be: Respect for your opponent, good clean fighting, technically sound performances from both fighters, a hot crowd, belt on the line. Yeah, as much as I liked Torres/Maeda, this was fight of the year. It's guys like Jens and Urijah I can point to and say, "These are the athletes that represent this sport," not sideshows like Kimbo, or trash talking assholes, or guys who suffer from some kind of macho-sociological disorder and only enter the sport to prove their masculinity and/or hurt people. Big, BIG ups to Jens and Faber.

I try to avoid drinking diet sodas (as well as normal sodas) because I still have some inclination that they are "bad" for me. Is this true or just an unsubstantiated theory?

Czech once again overlooks the superb album tracks on BITUSA. "No Surrender," "Bobby Jean," and "Downbound Train" are all excellent songs that don't get much attention from that album. BTR and Darkness on the Edge of Town are flawless albums, check them out immediately. The second side of Wild, Innocent... is masterful as well. As said before, the real Springsteen experience is captured live, so here are some concerts that I'd recommend checking out: Main Point: 2/5/75 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UN5W1Y5C http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9D1LGN2G Passaic, NJ: 9/19/78 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MF4H9V0M Winterland, CA: 12/15/78 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=R98G47S0 Nassau, NYE: 12/31/80 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HC3UZW75 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=W1UI95HU Vietnam Veteran's concert, LA: 8/20/81 http://www.megaupload.com/?d=FOBVSHGC

Well, the difference is that at least Hughes is still physically healthy. Sakuraba is pretty much held together by chewing gum and rubber bands these days. I can only hope that if he can't take Melvin down, he just makes it quick and relatively painless.
-
Now it seems like Mirko/Jerome is off. Jerome and Schilt for the belt is all but confirmed for Fukuoka later this month.
-
I don't really think Hughes has his mind fully in the game at this point. He just wants to fight Serra and probably bow out after that. Really nothing left for him to accomplish and it would be sad to see him end up like a Mark Coleman or a Don Frye, broken down and hobbled.

Mirko pulled out of the grappling fight because of a minor injury. No sense making it worse when he has a much more important fight against Jerome coming up.

It's airing live in London now, but it's on PPV in the U.S. tonight. Oh, and !

Would you like me to contribute a K-1 section to this thread? I know some people have a casual interest in it, so it couldn't hurt.

GUS JOHNSON Top notch defender who made the second team four times and the all defensive first team twice. Spectacular dunker, even for back in the day, he shattered three backboards in his career and could jump out of the gym. Great player to bring some energy and D off the bench. Unfortunately he passed away at only 48 from brain cancer.
-
There are still some great guys out there, you've got four picks to make on one turn so you're not too bad off.
-
MAURICE STOKES Super glad that he is around at this point, but I was pretty confident from the start that no one would take him. Had three monster years, making the All-NBA Second team each of his first three years before hitting his head in a playoff game in '58 and suffering brain damage. Very versatile player who could do it all on the court, he was Magic Johnson before there was a Magic Johnson. Was probably on his way to becoming one of the all-time greats before his injury.
-
Didn't see that one coming, heh

A lot of people only remember the fat, lazy Vin Baker, not the "could someday be another Karl Malone" Vin Baker.

I agree with VX. If Deron Williams fell off the face of the earth tomorrow, somebody like, well, a point guard who had one real good season that I am thinking of in particular would have been just as good a choice. That's why I'm generally going with guys who I know played at a top level for a long time, or if their time at top was short, i.e. Walton/David Thompson/Sampson, they were really, really good, like first team All-NBA good.

GAIL GOODRICH

Not sure if there is a really fair way to chop his team up among the other teams, but his attitude towards this has been kind of sad. Why ruin the fun for everyone else? It's not like he's taken bad players from the start, as evidenced by Robinson and Pippen, but my guess is that he thought it would be easier than this and just quit once a lot of players started getting picked. Now he's feigning like he isn't taking it seriously because he really has no clue who to draft. Or maybe I'm analyzing it too deeply and he's just being himself, which is probably a more likely scenario.

Wasn't he the one initially whining that he didn't get in on the first sign up? What a wet blanket.
