PRIDE looking for first death in sanctioned MMA
AboveAverage484 replied to a topic in Mixed Martial Arts
You can count Nastula and Alex out as they are facing each other. Also, someone with more inside info than myself has stated that Werdum himself has confirmed a fight against Nog. That would leave Silva and Thompson. I think if they get desperate enough they would do Saku/Minowa, though as a last resort only. I don't see the Law being used here. Silva against Thompson would be a fun fight. Didn't Silva retire? -
Some people have mentioned how creepy the natives are. Surely they can't be creepier than the ones from "Congo," those motherfuckers still give me the creeps into my twenties.

Even if Sakurai loses, he's still probably the comeback fighter of the year. I thought he was finished, but he's looked great since dropping weight. I couldn't believe it when Crosley subbed him last year.

Hey, All Music is the shit, those guys live for music. Well, it's their job, but you know. I wouldn't listen to the music I do today if it wasn't for that site. I've discovered many a great band through that site.

Well, considering it had Azeredo as a top ten and not Kawajiri, it was probably MMAWeekly's

Benoit could probably carry Sting's ass to a watchable match too. Shit, how long's it been since Sting had a good match? Well, he had a pretty good match against DDP on Nitro in '98 or '99.

I'm sorry, but Tim "Maine-iac" Sylvia possesses the worst nickname in MMA. -
Thoughts on the Following Fighters II: No Way Out

I don't mean to sound like a "negative Nancy," but holy shit am I tired of TUF right now. It's gonna end up like Tough Enough, where after the first few nobody cares anymore. Sorry -
When was this? I believe it was after he achieved some mainstream recognition after releasing his book, which was late 2000, early 2001, IIRC.

Chuck beat Jeremy Horn, who's a good fighter, to say nothing of his role at MFS, so badly his eyes swelled shut. I think that should answer any questions about messing with him. Well, the eye that he poked swelled shut But it was just a matter of time anyways, Horn didn't really have anything for Chuck.

I think Gomi's standup is pretty good, as well. I wasn't particularly impressed by it prior to this year, but he has improved greatly in it, beating two fighters whose "specialty" is standup, Pulver and Azeredo (even though he had almost twenty pounds on Jens)

You would be correct. I wouldn't say it became "real" MMA until around UFC 15 or so.

MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread

One badass motherfucker. Andrei vs. Hendo would be a slugfest for all ages. For about 6 seconds, before Arlovski knocks Henderson's head clean off onto a horrified Matt Lindland's lap. I guess he's not taking into account the fact that Andrei outweighs Dan by about 50-60 pounds either. -

It pretty much was. Nogueira won the regulation AND overtime. Also, at one time, Rings also had this weird rule, where if one judge ruled the fight a draw, they would have to go an extra round, regardless. -

Ah, here we are that was quicker than I thought. -

They could strike to the body or work for submissions, which is what they mostly did. Hendo actually won a Rings tourney over Babalu back in 2000. I listed some top Rings fights earlier this year, if I can find the thread, I'll repost them. -

It's just some smart ass remark that has far outlived it's usefulness. It was funny the first time we saw it, not the 116,679,457 times after. Example: Fedor vs. Zuluzhino at next Pride Someone would reply: Rickson by armbar. Now people say it when it has no relevance whatsoever. Example: TUF 2 coaches announced. Someone replies: Rickson by armbar. Kind of like pwned.

Yeah but against some dude mugging him on the street....he'd eat the guy for lunch. I don't think you understood what I read. NOBUHIKO TAKADA dropped him with a knee.
-
Kondo needs to fight in the middle weight division, not against big LHW's like Vov and Nakamura.
-
Takada dropped Rickson with a knee, that's all I'll say about the Gracies' stand-up. The new generation of Gracies however, are more than adequate at stand-up.

I always used Mario. Never really excelled in any area, but didn't suck in any area, either. My brother always played as the big guys, but I couldn't stand hitting something then trying to speed back up.

I don't know, if you've got any type of takedown defense at all, you could fuck Royce up. He's not exactly known for his standup.
