  2. http://www.eonline.com/News/Items/0,1,14603,00.html Brosnan Turns in Bond's Badge? by Joal Ryan Jul 27, 2004, 9:05 PM PT One way or another, Pierce Brosnan's days as 007 appear numbered. Varying reports have the suave Irish-born actor (a) writing off the secret-agent role after four films; or (b) getting the boot from youth-seeking producers. In an interview posted Tuesday on Entertainment Weekly's Website, Brosnan sounded like a man who has had it with introducing himself as, "Bond. James Bond." "That's it," Brosnan told EW. "I've said all I've got to say on the world of James Bond." Brosnan also sounded like a man who thinks his bosses should similarly get over the gadget-loving spy. "They don't know how to move on," Brosnan said of 007 producers. "A sense of paralysis has set in." Or has it? Last weekend, British tabs floated stories that it was producers who were ready to move on--without Brosnan. The U.K.'s Sunday Mail claimed that Bond's backers have decided the next film--the 21st entry in the official series--should be a turn-back-the-clock, lower-tech affair. Producers also have ruled the clock should be turned back on Bond--in the form of a younger, as yet uncast actor, the paper said. "Without all the special effects, the film will work best with a young, fresh actor," a source told the Sunday Mail. The 51-year-old Brosnan, who lost out on a chance to become Bond in the mid-1980s when TV's Remington Steele kept him otherwise engaged, has carried 007's badge for nearly a decade, beginning with 1995's GoldenEye. His other Bond adventures are: 1997's Tomorrow Never Dies; 1999's The World Is Not Enough; and 2002's Die Another Day. He is the fifth actor to hold down the franchise after Sean Connery, one shot George Lazenby, Roger Moore and Timothy Dalton. But before advocates for the middle-aged file a brief on behalf of the fiftysomething Brosnan, it should be noted that the Sunday Mail's story cites mixed motivations for producers' reputed desire for a casting change. On one hand, the tab reports, producers want somebody with fewer wrinkles; on the other hand, it says, producers want somebody with fewer zeroes in his contract. "Apparently, [brosnan] was demanding a Tom Cruise-level pay check," a source is quoted as telling the paper. (In the unnamed source's humble opinion, by the way, Brosnan isn't "quite in that league" as the $25 million-earning Cruise.) There was no official word on Brosnan's status Tuesday from Eon Productions, the film company that sends Bond out to save the world every two or three years. (The next film, known right now only as Bond 21, is on the calendar for a 2005 release.) MGM, which distributes the 007 films, declined comment. Reports of Brosnan's Bond demise, meanwhile, are about as old as the franchise itself. In 2001, producers were so flooded with rumors that they'd jettisoned Brosnan, they issued a formal denial. True to their word, Brosnan was back in action that year for production on Die Another Day. Then as now, Hugh Jackman was rumored to be in line for a Bond tux fitting. (E! Online's Ted Casablanca reported in March that the Australian-born X-Man was out of line, and no longer on producers' wish list.) Others whose names--and appropriately accented voices--have been linked to Bond include: Ewan McGregor, Jude Law, Heath Ledger and Orlando Bloom. The only sure thing in the Bond universe right now? Things are shaken--and stirred.
  3. Wait... what's wrong with Molly? Hurricane's super sidekick ring a bell for anyone? Hell I loved Mighty Molly. They might as well put them back together cause it's not like they got anything else for her.
  4. http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=3983 CCI DAY 2: WB ANIMATION STRIKES BACK by Hannibal Tabu, Staff Writer Posted: July 24, 2004 Fans of all ages were treated to a whole lot of animated antics from the enthusiastic staff of WB Animation in one of the best run panels of the convention. Moderator Sam Register from Cartoon Network came out with all of the energy of a motivational speaker, urging the crowd towards more and more cheering. On hand for Q&A was voice talents for Robin, Raven and Beast Boy, actor Ron Perlman (who played "Hellboy" on the big screen and gives voice to villain Slade on the series) and series producer Glen Murakami. Register asked Perlman about "Hellboy 2," and Perlman begged ignorance. "They think I'm too irresponsible," he laughed, "so they won't tell me anything. I guess I'll see you all opening night, hopefully I'll know by then." After showing a music video for the theme song, a lengthy clip of a fight scene with a new villain (in an old outfit) was shown, along with brief clips from the upcoming season. Fans cheered when the familiar lines of Nightwing appeared on screen, swinging a long staff. New team member Terra was closely overlaid with Slade in the clip, implying their stories may be intertwined. A taller, gray haired man was seen who closely resembled many incarnations of Ra's Al Ghul, but the panelists confirmed that Brother Blood would be coming to the show, so the character's red highlighted costume probably imply another kind of immortal than the Demon's Head. Register was especially prolific with his praise for Glen Murakami. "There would be no 'Teen Titans' without Glen," Register gushed. As the "Titans" team was ushered off stage, the screen flared to life again, showing scenes from the upcoming season of "Justice League Unlimited." The clip showed several guest stars that have previously been announced -- Captain Atom, Green Arrow, Rocket Red, Supergirl, et cetera -- and a network of satellites replacing the Watchtower lost in the season finale, "Starcrossed." It also showed clips from the season opener, with Supergirl, Green Arrow and Green Lantern in action, and a nice coda with Batman. Then the laughs and surprises started coming. When Register asked the "JLU" team what was different about this season, producer James Tucker, who works closely with Bruce Timm, quickly said, "B'wana Beast," which got a good laugh from the crowd. Register asked about the deluge of new characters, and Timm revealed that they asked for but could not get Blue Beetle for the show, due to a logjam of rights issues. Timm did say that the Power of Shazam would be coming to Cartoon Network, with an appearance this season by Captain Marvel. As for villains, this season will play host to Lex Luthor and return appearances by Thanagarian antagonists, Amazo, Sersi, and even Brimstone appearing as a runaway killer giant robot created by the government. Again Register was on hand to give credit. "Remember how I kissed Glen's BUTT?" Register asked the crowd. "Bruce Timm trained him." Comic book veteran Dwayne McDuffie talked about bringing in more comic book writers for the show, including J.M. DeMatteis, Warren Ellis, Darwyn Cooke, Ron Zimmerman, and Gail Simone for a "double date" episode involving Green Arrow and Black Canary. McDuffie admitted that Wonder Woman is the toughest character for him to write, "because she's such a symbol. No matter what character trait I try to give her, it's wrong for somebody." Stan Berkowitz, another member of the writing team, said the Flash was a challenge due to the impulse to go overboard with wisecracks. Finally, the "Justice League" team left and were replaced by a full episode of the new animated series, "The Batman." In the episode, a young Bruce Wayne is the title character, the Batman is chased by the cops as often as he chases villains, and the Man-Bat goes toe to toe with the nascent Bat.
  5. http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=3996 CCI, DAY 3: "SMALLVILLE" PANEL AT CCI, SEASON 4 DETAILS by Arthur Lender, Contributing Writer Posted: July 24, 2004 Thousands of people attended the "Smallville" panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego this year to celebrate their beloved superhero drama series. Having just concluded its third season with a major cliffhanger, "Smallville" has never been more popular. Fans eagerly await the next season to find out just what happened to Clark, Lana, Lex, and the rest of the gang. Producers Al Gough and Miles Millar were in attendance, as well as creative consultant and comic heavyweight Jeph Loeb. Rounding out the panel were cast members Allison Mack ("Chloe Sullivan"), John Glover ("Lionel Luther") and the newest member of the "Smallville" team, Erica Durance ("Lois Lane"). CBR News was there to bring you all the information from this exciting panel. Perhaps the biggest shift in "Smallville's" formula is the introduction of Lois Lane, Clark Kent's future wife. Erica Durance portrays a Lois that is a year older than Clark, somewhat neurotic, and very much not interested in journalism. She appears in Smallville looking for her cousin Chloe who seems to be dead. Durance is currently scheduled to appear in 13 episodes next season. What does this mean for Clark's relationship with Lana? Gough and Millar promise that Clark and Lana will not be together for at least a season. Lana has a new love interest that she meets in Paris, but who is actually an American, something that will develop the character in a new direction: "We're going to see a whole new Lana." With his love interest away and involved, Clark must deal with his slowly descending best friend, Lex Luthor. "The relationship between Clark and Lex is absolutely crucial in how Clark becomes Superman," explained the producing duo, adding a note about the fine line between good and evil, "That's how great villains see themselves, as heroes." Despite lots of anticipation among fans, Millar admitted that DC's Dark Knight will not be appearing in season four of "Smallville" due to upcoming Batman film. "With Batman Begins coming out next summer, [the appearance of Bruce Wayne] was put on the back burner." He did, however, suggest that a well known piece of Superman comic mythology will come to the show next season, as well as a bigger part for Martha Kent. "Annette O'Toole is great. She and Mr. [John] Glover will have more scenes together. She's the most underused resource in the show." For all you Tom Welling fans out there, season four promises to explore Clark as a developing teenager. Gough said, "We'll see if Clark can have sex." Not much is known about the season four premier episode, except that Cark Kent is going to fly for the first time in the show's history. Despite some speculation that there is more there than meets the eye, this is certainly a departure from the "Smallville" mantra "no flights, no tights". The character of Pete Ross is no longer a regular cast member, but may have some guest appearances next season. Gough and Millar also promise the return of some old villains, as well as some characters that they are awaiting permission from DC Comics to use. Expect to see the unpredictable effects of red kryptonite come up again, the return of Christopher Reeve, and the possible introduction of the Fortress of Solitude. With the fate of each of the characters uncertain, the audience at the panel was full of questions for both cast and crew. Allison Mack complimented her experience on "Smallville" and received a warm reception from the fans. A different kind of warm reception came from the female contingent of the audience when John Glover came on the stage. He was both humble and hilarious as one audience member offered to be his romantic interest. "This part I have with Lionel is the best I've ever had!" Glover jokingly assured the audience that Lionel is our friend and that "Lionel is not an evil man, he is driven." Fans of "Smallville" remember the striking visual of Lionel with a shaved head during season three's finale episode. When asked if he approved of this aesthetic alteration, John Glover told the audience that it was his idea. Al Gough talked a little about future plans for "Smallville." "We had a five year plan [for the series] that became a four year plan, so we have one year left on it. But, it will go on as long as you guys [the viewers] want it to go." Both producers see a future for the series beyond Clark in his high school days, but say that they will end the series before Clark becomes Superman. One member of the audience asked if Tom Welling was being offered the role of Superman in the upcoming film, to which the answer was no. After the audience expressed their disapproval, Gough reminded the audience, "Look, it's not my f-ing movie, okay?!"
  6. http://www.eonline.com/News/Items/0,1,14595,00.html "Simpsons": A Gay Old Time by Josh Grossberg Jul 27, 2004, 10:15 AM PT A Simpsons toon is coming out of the closet. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Speaking during a weekend panel at San Diego's Comic-Con convention, show producers dropped a bomb: An upcoming Simpsons story line will focus on what happens when Springfield legalizes gay marriage. "We have a show where, to raise money, Springfield legalizes gay marriage," producer Al Jean told comic book fans. "Homer becomes a minister by going on the Internet and filling out a form. A longtime character comes out of the closet, but I'm not saying who." And with that, Simpsons aficionados got their gaydar on and began winnowing down the list of potential suspects. The early favorite appears to be billionaire Monty Burns' ever-devoted sidekick, Waylon Smithers, who--aside from being a yes-man--has been known to collect Malibu Stacy dolls, lives in the gay part of town (where Homer once shacked up with two gay guys), has a Mr. Burns screensaver and dreams of a naked Mr. Burns jumping out of a birthday cake. But that might be too easy. According to online fan scuttlebutt, there are other characters who might be secretly having a gay old time in Springfield, including Homer's regular-guy cohorts at the nuclear plant, Carl and Lenny, as well as Moe the bartender, the Reverend Lovejoy, Principal Skinner and Comic Book Guy. Of course, the producers didn't rule out a lesbian wedding, either. "It's Homer!" said a joking Simpsons creator Matt Groening to conventiongoers. The gay marriage-themed episode is scheduled to air in January. While the coming-out comments generated the most interest, the show's brain trust also outlined some other upcoming plots. For instance, Springfield residents will also have a cow over corrupt Mayor Quimby and seek to recall him from office--a riff on California recall election in which Arnold Schwarzenegger defeated then Governor Gray Davis. No word whether The Simpsons' Ah-nuld look-alike, Rainier Wolfcastle, will be leading the effort to replace Quimby. Meanwhile, celebs expected to lend their voices to the show next season include Kim Cattrall, Ray Romano, James Caan and rapper 50 Cent. Groening also addressed the long-talked about Simpsons animated movie. He said that plans are still underway, but work on a big screen version won't begin until the tube series takes its final bow. That could be awhile. Now heading into its 16th season, The Simpsons is still posting solid ratings and consistently ranks number one in its Sunday time slot for adults 18-49, the category coveted by advertisers. It has also become the longest running comedy series on the tube and has spawned a billion-dollar franchise for Fox, which after some protracted negotiations, agreed to a new four-year deal with the show's six stars that gave each of them a whopping pay raise to $250,000 per episode. Plenty of d'oh, indeed.

  9. I thought it would have been funny if the former WWE superstar was Steve Austin and during the skit he has Debra flashbacks and yells "Derba why didn't you cook my dinner" and then he goes nuts on all the wannbe divas.
  10. It would have been better then what we did get. The thing with Kamala was funny for the first diva or so but, then it just dragged on and got worst by the second.
  11. Funny seems like someone else is looking to pull this scam. http://www.craigslist.org/eby/cas/37375060.html
  12. Now this brings up an interesting question. If JBL keeps the title after the UT feud who does JBL fight next? The only face I can think of that will work is Cena. Unless they want JBL and Eddie to feud again.
  13. So does this mean that UT is winning the belt and then feuding with Jon Heidenreich over the WWE TITLE of all things? Nice to see Vince has learned his lesson over what happened with Jon last time and Nathan Jones thing.
  14. Hey I wish Gardner was in JLU just so we can see the famous Gardner wants to fight Batman and Bats knocks him out with one punch from way back when in JLI, I think it was.
  15. I never really liked that one. It looked like a poor man's verison of the WWF Eagle belt.
  16. You do know if that does happen Alanis will use it as a base to write a whole CD about the damn thing. That wasn't anything compared to the coolness that was MR. T.
