The Steelers jumped in on the latest craze and followed up the signings of DeAngelo Hall and Ty Law by picking up Fernando Bryant. I guess Deshea Townsend may or may not be going on IR soon. That team will never stop losing starters to injury.

They could always go Michael Robinson. He completed nearly 50% of his passes at Penn State!
-
The 36 second spike might have been the smartest play Shaun Hill made all night.

I think the Cardinals must be pretty close to setting the record for interception touchdowns called back for offsides penalties.

This game has been a lot more entertaining than I ever expected it to be. The 49ers are playing much better than I expected having not seen them this year, and Vernon Davis just made a great TD catch before the half. Of course he immediately gets called for a 15 yard unsportsmanlike for taking off his helmet. Singletary, of course, greeted him with a hug and some laughs after a brief awkward stare.

I think Drew Brees might actually break the passing yards record this year. He's having an awful game today, but is now pushing 400 yards. Edit--Meaningless TD puts him at 420 and right near 3,000 for the year.

It's actually 41-13. It was a close game until the Ravens put up 22 in the 4th quarter thanks in no small part to Sage Rosenfels.

Is Sage Rosenfels the worst QB ever? After the infamous Indianapolis performance where he just handed them the game he has thrown the ball directly at Ray Lewis twice this game. I don't think Ray Lewis was even playing coverage either time, it looked more like he was taking some time to stand by himself and think and just ended up with the ball.

Somehow the feared Tennessee running game has 13 carries for -5 yards, but Kerry Collins threw for 180 in the first half. What is going on out there?
-
It took 2 passes for Culpepper to throw his first post-retirement interception. We're still waiting for a completion.

I finally got clean versions of Sorry and Scraped. I only listened to them once earlier, didn't get much of a feel for them, but I definitely liked Scraped a lot better on first listen. My favorite thing I've heard from the album so far, though, is the Shackler's Revenge vocal track someone took off the Rock Band game. It rules. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQLueq5o3gE

Now that Penn State have blown the National Championship I'm trying to come up with a scenario where we end up with a Penn State vs. Pittsburgh bowl game since Paterno decided to eliminate the biggest rivalry for both schools for a personal grudge, but it doesn't look like it will happen. I don't think any of the bowls go Big East-Big 10 by default, and I doubt either team falls too far in the conference rankings.

I'm inclined to agree with you there. Holliday had a pretty good 2008 road season, but looking at his career numbers it's really clear how much he's benefited from hitting at Coors.

Do you think the fact that a QB can learn their entire offense in 5 days might be one of the reasons the Lions have struggled this year?

This week in NFL Fines news Justin Tuck got $7,500 for "unnecessarily driving Brooks Bollinger into the ground" on what I thought was one of the most questionable roughing the passer penalties I've seen all year. It was the most textbook form tackle I've ever seen and happened just as the ball was released. No idea what they're even trying to do anymore. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0GnOWxHveMw Then there's LaMarr Woodley's $10,000 for "throwing down" Jason Campbell on a sack where he wasn't even penalized. The play in question happens at 1:15 in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CP9_I99jqTI Even looking beyond just what gets fined, how do they decide that one play deserves a $7,500 fine and the other gets $10,000? Nothing the league does makes any sense anymore.

Joey Porter is having quite the entertaining week. First he made Brandon Marshall go insane, then for some reason he decided to point out how ridiculous it is that Matt Jones still hasn't missed a game despite his cocaine arrest. For a minute I thought the Dolphins must be playing the Jaguars this week, but it turns out they don't play all year. (I'm sure he was probably asked specifically about it, I don't see him just mentioning it for no reason.) And Matt Jones has issued a great response. He must be one of those gays who does his thinking sitting up. All the heteros lay down when they think about stuff.

The list is a bit misleading, though because it slants extremely heavily towards guys who just signed new contracts. It's probably completely different every year. For example I think Roethlisberger's number next year will only be something like $7 million even though this year it's $27 million. I think Michael Turner only gets $1 million in 09.
-
I think Carl Crawford really deserved one of the outfield spots there.
-
I looked at the Fielding Bible plus/minus lists for center field. Beltran was second behind Carlos Gomez with a +24, McLouth was last with a -40. On their 3 year chart they had Beltran first at +59 and McLouth last at -49. I guess to win the Gold Glove you have to be either the best or the worst.

I think CNN just had Obama pull ahead in Indiana for the first time all night.
-
ESPN's article made it sound even better than just releasing DeAngelo Hall Hopefully this means he's going on a rampage. It should be fun to watch.
-
The CNBC website are really trying to make things seem interesting. Their current headline: "McCain takes Texas, Utah, Narrowing Obama Lead"
-
CNN sound like they're holding their Ohio call for after the commercial break. They said they had a major projection coming up.

Teams Baltimore have beaten this year: Cleveland (3-5), Cincinnati (1-8), Miami (4-4), Oakland (2-6). Start talking about them when they actually beat someone.

Has anyone else checked out the NFL.com coverage of the game? I've only been looking at it for a couple minutes and it's already had a couple problems, but it's pretty cool for the most part. It has 5 different angles of the game and the regular commentary.
