Didn't he win it in 1998 with Tee Martin at QB the year after Peyton left for the NFL?

Not a ton of huge match ups but oh well... the ESPNU games shouldn't be that interesting unless you want to see 7-2 South Carolina State on Thursday. Maine (6-3) @ UMass (6-1) - Airing on CSN at 12 PM ET Dayton (8-1) @ Butler (6-2) Sacred Heart (8-1) @ Monmouth (5-4) Bethune-Cookman (6-2) @ Hampton (5-3) FCS vs. FBS: Tennessee-Martin (7-2) heads on the road to take on ESS EE SEE Auburn (4-5) Western Illinois (5-3) @ Southern Illinois (6-2) New Hampshire (7-1) @ Villanova (6-2) - Airing on CN8 at 3:30 PM ET Northwestern State (6-3) @ Central Arkansas (7-2)

Also looks like I got at least 9 right... hoping I can get double digits for PF and hit 70 total on the year.

Quietly, the AFC East is getting decent... New England: 5-2 (Could be 6-2 or 5-3) Buffalo: 5-3 The J-E-T-S: 5-3 Miami: 4-4

An easy victory this week... looks like I may've taken 6 of the 7 differing picks (if Giants and Philly can hold on) and improve the record to 6-2.
-
I'm somehow tied for 1st in my division... bless in-conference games I guess.

Boston is up early 1-0 on a Sturm goal. This kind of up tempo/push the puck into opposition territory is what I want to see the Bruins do more of against opponents (mentioned in the fix team thread). Already Boston has had a few good shot opportunities including a brief 3-2 match up.

For those that missed it, Armanti Edwards went bonkers on national TV (430 total yards with 6 TD, 5 of them passing) as App State dropped 70 on #3 Wofford. Other scores of note... Georgia Southern beat Citadel 44-41 after 3 OT Colgate upset #21 Lafayette 21-13 #5 Northern Iowa slaughtered #12 Western Illinois 30-6 Presbyterian upset #17 Liberty 31-28 Nicholls State upset #11 Central Arkansas 20-17 #6 Montana ran over #19 Northern Arizona 45-10 #18 Furman held off Samford 28-27 despite allowing 20 points in the 4th quarter Morgan State upset Florida A&M 13-10

Just a reminder that ESPN2 has a hallmark I-AA contest tonight. Sports Network has Wofford ranked #3 and App State at #2. This game is more important to Widmyer/Strickland as both are Seniors and could impress NFL scouts with a big showing. Who To Watch For Wofford - QB Ben Widmyer: Completing 68.8% of his passes with 7 TD vs. 0 INT. Also has a 6.7 YPC and 6 rushing TD. - WR Andy Strickland: Has 5 receiving TD with a 19.8 YPR. Appalachian State - QB Armanti Edwards: Completing only 59.2% of his passes but has 15 TD vs. 2 INT along with 8 rushing TD. - RB Devin Radford: Big play threat! Has a 7.2 YPC with 3 rushing TD and on 5 catches he's averaging 35.6 YPR. - RB Robert Welton: Has a 6.7 YPC and 7 rushing TD despite being third on the team in carries.

Let's Talk About...Diesel's WWF World title run
HarleyQuinn replied to King Kamala's topic in General Wrestling
I think Diesel could've worked better if some of the mid-card heel acts had been pushed a little more (possibly as challengers for the series of In Your House events). Ironically, Diesel did face several of the following opponents in Monday Night Raw matches. The following opponents could've been decent options as heel feeders for Diesel to build his reputation on... - Owen Hart: Was coming off a feud with Bret Hart and was in the corner of Bob Backlund for a period of time. Could've easily been narcissistic and claimed he'd finish the job that Backlund couldn't do. Also would've been a means to "gloat" over Bret that he got a WWF Title Shot instead. - Jeff Jarrett: Decent enough worker, decent on the mic and could work out a great match when necessary (See IYH 2 with Shawn Michaels). He could've been the IC Champion setting his sights higher and demanding his 'rightful' WWF Title shot. - Tatanka: Would've been a better option than Mabel at the least. Again, decently tolerable worker and Ted Dibiase could've used Tatanka to build up against Diesel. Total feeder but it could've helped segue into the Psycho Sid feud a bit more too. HBK teams with Sid to take on the Million Dollar Corporation and hires Sid... Sid ambushes HBK, etc. - Bam Bam Bigelow: All things considered, you could've easily had Diesel "run" through the Million $ Corporation through say three months with Tatanka, Bam Bam Bigelow, and Psycho Sid as the trio. You'd help build up Diesel's ability to get through a stable as well as "building up" in terms of size opponent wise too. - Yokozuna: He was in a solid tag team with Owen Hart for most of 1995 and could've been a great option for Diesel to overcome later in the year as a one month event stopgap opponent. It'd be interesting to see Diesel go up against a Yokozuna who was back to squashing all his opponents and defeating several solid faces. Not to mention you'd have the Champion vs. Former Champion aura. - Lex Luger: Had his moment in the sun during 1994 but could've easily been turned heel again (where he's more natural IMO) and been a 1-2 month feud for Diesel to overcome. Luger turning on a friend of Diesel's could've helped the feud get some heat and Luger could've gone back to the awesome forearm plate of doom gimmick. Not a whole lot of "great" heel options but there were some viable candidates during 1995. Granted, most of the workrate wouldn't be ***-**** but most of the above were decent enough and could handle a mic if given the opportunity or had mouth pieces for them. -

Hmm... I'll tackle the Bruins for fun's sake (and the Red Sox, Pats, Celtics are all solid) The Bruins have a lot of good talent (Patrice Bergeron, Marc Savard, Zdeno Chara, and Phil Kessel are all really good talents) but I think what's hurting them the most is the coaching philosophy. Not so much in face of line changes or line pairings so much as the mentality around the team. It seems like the mentality is puck control mixed in with "taking opportunities when presented" leading to almost a common tactic seen in the NFL: Play to not lose the game. One aspect that really irks me (and this can be seen with most teams) is the power play where the Bruins seem content to pass the puck around NBA rotation style 7-8 times so that when the power play ends (if they haven't scored) they'll be lucky to get off 4-5 shots. Given that they often have a 1 man advantage, it'd do them good to take more risks such as slap shots from the defensemen at the point or just shooting the puck and looking for the rebound. Maybe I'm looking at efficiency but it feels like passes are taking away time that shots could be given and at worst, you give up the breakaway but the defensemen should be aware of that anyway. I also desperately want to see the Bruins setting up their teammates when heading up ice. Granted, there's the offsides rule but it irks me when they have a 2 on 3 with a 3rd trailing a split second behind and rather than the wing feeding it to the center up ahead to break past the blue line, the wing opts to dump it while a line shift happens. I just want the Bruins to start taking more risks offensively both on the power play and when trying to crash through the blue line. As a random aside: That's why I liked watching Argentina (I think it was) in soccer because they attack the opposition and feel like it's their right to move the ball upfield at all costs. The Bruins need that mentality, rather than "playing" defensively or playing it safe to avoid a big loss.

Here's my votes for the 7 that should make it... DE Bruce Smith WR Cris Carter DE Ed "Too Tall" Jones - Was a key member of the Cowboys D in the 1970's and is underrated compared to modern players G Russ Grimm LB Derrick Thomas P Ray Guy (The guy is arguably touted over and over as the best punter ever by peers... get him in!) Contributors: Ed or Steve Sabol (The impact that NFL Films has had on the sport is incredibly underrated)

I sure hope not... went back to my "usual" method that I've adopted this year rather than last week where I tried to mix my usual method with 'gut' picks. Obviously my gut sucks now.

Whoo bounce back from the miserable 4 with a strong week high of 9!

Wow... nice to have an easy early victory this week.

On a note for massive chokejobs... Georgia Southern beat Western Carolina in OT 38-31. GS scored 28 points in the 4th quarter and scored 5 unanswered TD after being down 31-3! SE Missouri State beat #19 Tennessee State 27-20 in OT. SE scored 17 points in the 4th quarter. TS made a FG with 29 seconds left but SE made a 37 yarder as time expired in the 4th... ouch. Other scores of note #4 Wofford stomped #3 Elon 55-20 #2 App State beat #18 Furman 26-14 #1 James Madison barely got past #7 Villanova 23-19 thanks to a 35 yard TD pass from Rodney Landers as time expired in the 4th quarter.

It's not? I'd say it's overrated in that respect. It seems like there's three top tier teams (LSU, Florida, Georgia) and a second tier (Auburn, Tennessee) followed by mediocre programs. Most of the "top" conferences (i.e. the SEC, Big 10, Big 12) tend to get hyped as great due to two or three outstanding teams while the rest of the division is solid but not exactly overwhelmingly amazing. The lower tier divisions (WAC, MAC, MWC) tend to be snubbed because the attitude was that there was one great team (or two) but the rest were mediocre/poor despite often being penalized by playing in-conference opponents. You don't see Florida being penalized for playing a team like Vanderbilt... instead those teams are praised for playing tough opponents and tough schedules simply because they're lucky to be in such a competitive division. Boise State is a prime example of a lower level team that's been great but has largely been overlooked in terms of the big conference teams. 2001: 8-4 2002: 12-1 2003: 13-1 2004: 11-1 2005: 9-4 2006: 13-0 2007: 10-3 That's a record that rivals Texas during that span but because Boise State had the "luxury" of being stuck in a poor conference and not having to play mediocre to solid teams such as Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Colorado, and Oklahoma State they get penalized and called overrated or a product of their conference.

Early scores of note... #10 New Hampshire beat Towson 42-14 #24 Lafayette beat Fordham 48-13 #17 UMass beat Bryant 42-7 #25 Harvard beat Princeton 24-20 #23 William & Mary beat Rhode Island 34-24 Might I add that I'm sick of the slobbering in the Georgia vs. LSU game. It's like the announcers are treating the SEC like it's the world's best conference and that every player on both team is uber talented compared to anybody else (You'd think the FB on Georgia would make the NFL with ease and be an early round pick). ^ is reason #2 on my list as to why I prefer I-AA football games.

It's a shame Boo Williams doesn't play in the NFL anymore... he probably died and donated his ACL to Brady.

Tennessee-Martin upset Jacksonville State 31-30. Ryan Perrilloux threw for 261 yards and 2 TD. RB Miguel Barnes of TM ran for 117 yards and 1 TD on 23 carries.
