Barack Obama's Inauguration
JaMarcus Russell's #1 Caucasian Fan replied to At Home's topic in Current Events
People forget California has brought the nation Richard Nixon and Ronald Regan. This state was extremely conservative until about 1992-1994, when Pete Wilson and Co. tried to take rights from illegals, effectively killing GOP support among latinos. California has had a majority of Republican governors with some exceptions and had a long run recently until Gray Davis in 1998. Look up some of our Republican Senators in the past, there are some crazies. Reagan conservatives still inhabit the rural areas of the state and California goes blue thanks to the heavy populations of Northern California and Los Angeles. -
Barack Obama's Inauguration

I think the issue of gay marriage will most likely go to the Supreme Court. I don't think all of the people who got married are going to just give up their marriage license because some bigots form Utah convinced some people that they were going teach kids gay marriage. Ugh so pissed about this.... All I know is that I hope the fight goes on and we rise above this stupidity. -
Barack Obama's Inauguration

It's still early here, but Prop 8 looks to pass, which is very bittersweet to me and and a lot of other people. I don't think we get the full tally until tomorrow anyway, but if there is a tad of optimism San Fransisco and Los Angeles lag on their results. California may be a blue state, but Between Northern California and Los Angeles, California still retains a lot of its extreme conservatism in places like the High Desert, Inland Empire, San Diego, Central California and the Eastern Sierras near Nevada and Arizona. Even if it does pass, I think it's going to be a long struggle, but I think we will get this right one day hopefully. -
On Prop 8: The polls closed 45 minutes ago. Wait till it gets to the Bay Area. I think it's going to fail.

Wow, what a birthday. Teared up when I saw my parents start to cry. What an ending to these eight years.

It's over... awesome.

Same thing here up in Santa Clarita has been going on as well. On every street corner there is a Yes on 8 sign or some homemade god hates fags type signs. Not to mention rallies on street corners almost everyday for Prop 8. I hope this shit fails overwhelmingly and the LDS in Utah keeps their noses out of California politics for good.

Ted Stevens it trouble

I was thinking about it, but I would not be surprised if Ted Stevens was pardoned by W on 1/19/09. -
The OAO TSM "Happy Birthday, you!" Thread

Happy birthday to me! -
Just got back from voting in my area. I proudly cast my vote for Obama in my lily white conservative area (which is slowly but surely changing). California will go blue no matter what today, so I decided to volunteer for local Democrats in my area to try and break the long held Mormon and Republican stronghold. One Democrat running for State Senate looks like a good bet to remove the long termed incumbent Republican thanks to the students at UCSB. A Democratic candidate for State Assembly looks like a long shot to win in her race but when I was making phone calls and doing voter registration I was surprised at how many Republicans made the switch. The Republican Congressman will surely win in a landslide against an absentee Democratic challenger. I also voted NO on the gay marriage ban and NO parental notification for minors having abortions. I voted YES on the proposition that sets standards on confining farm animals. Wasn't a long line, but I don't expect long lines in white neighborhoods.

I don't think Allen Iverson is washed up or anything, but he doesn't shoot at the same clip he used too, his defense has fallen off (I blame that on the Denver Nuggets), and he's banged up from having a long career. Maybe he will be energized by playing for a contender, but for other than future cap space, I fail to see how the Pistons improved their team. Plus, Rasheed Wallace and Iverson on the same team with a rookie head coach? You Piston fans better hope this works out because if it doesn't this will turn ugly quickly.
-
I don't see how 2008 Allen Iverson makes the Pistons any better than they were. What a weird trade.

Well the Raiders are already in the hole against the Falcons. Michael Crabtree is coming to Oakland!

Raiders: Hire someone to "retire" Uncle Al. Fire all of Al's yes men and asskissers. Then, hire a halfway decent general manager that knows how to draft players and scout players. Get a decent head coach with a good resume and that wants to be in Oakland. If possible, trade down high draft picks and stockpile all the linemen we could get. Cut these players in order: The entire Raider's offensive line, Ashley Lelie and Javon Walker. Pray.

What I don't understand about some right wingers like Marvin and others, is why they are so virulently opposed to taxing the wealthy it seems. It seems like they actually think that they (I don't think Marvin makes 250,000 grand a year being a chef) will be affected by more taxes to a class that they don't belong in (like they think they are rich are something). I also don't understand why small business owners think they are going to be taxed to death. If I were a small business owner I would support the Democratic economic plan because it seems to put more money into the hands of the middle class (the main customers of small businesses), which in turn would be able to buy more what small businesses are selling which would lead to growth and more job opportunities for middle class folks. I know I'm probably beating a dead horse with this, but it seems like people are still brainwashed (and we have had iterations of of trickle down since Reagan) by the Republican party's mantra of more money for rich people=good, more money for middle class=bad. Edit: apologies for the repetitious use of "seems"

I'm no economist in any way shape or form, but I think it's a good idea, for the government to invest (ie spend) in the economy and programs (ie jobs, education etc) to spark economic growth. I don't see how cutting spending would be beneficial when we need to generate cash flow into the economy.

As well as the popular vote in the Presidential election as well. Even though the popular vote doesn't elect the president, If Obama gets over 50 percent of the electorate, it pretty much gives him carte blache to do want he needs to do.

First "CD" you ever bought
JaMarcus Russell's #1 Caucasian Fan replied to 1234-5678's topic in Music
Bad and History by Michael Jackson was my first CDs after my mom and dad bought me a CD player for my 10th birthday back in 1995. I remember recording songs off the radio and televison before then. -
Your city's most-loved team
JaMarcus Russell's #1 Caucasian Fan replied to Star Ocean 3's topic in Sports
In Los Angeles' case, we haven't had a pro football team since 1994, so I don't see anything wrong with liking USC football (and UCLA to a lesser extent) more than certain professional teams. -

1.What kind of changes can we expect from Samurai Mike taking over as the head coach in San Francisco? I think the 49ers will be inspired by their new head coach, but this team is not very talented. So I say they will play hard, but won't make the playoffs even in a bad division. 2. If Indy loses on Monday, are they in deep shit? Are they in deep shit already? Indy is already in dogshit. They have gotten old fast and teams have seemed to figure out the offense. The injuries to the Colts defense and O-line have also had a negative effect. It will be an unpleasant season for Colts fans this year. 3. If Dallas loses this week, are they in deep shit? Are they in deep shit already? Dallas is the biggest dissapoint for sure this year. They remind me a little bit of the 02 Raiders. I think the bottom falls out this week and then will make a big run to end the season. 4. Will British people (in general) ever give a fuck about the NFL? Can you defend the NFL wanting to play these games overseas? I don't know if the British people will ever give a care about American football, but the game is at it's peak here and its not really a bad idea to establish some roots in Britain, so I can see why the Commish is doing it. It's a global economy now, and the NBA markets the its games in all over the world, why wouldn't the NFL want to tap into a market, say like China? I see the NFL expanding this across Europe in the near future and this will not stop anytime soon. 5. What does St. Louis have to do to maintain momentum and keep winning games? What does New England have to do to knock the Rams back down a peg? St. Louis just needs to continue to play hard every down and hope that some teams overlook them. New England, with their coach and veterans, will not overlook this game.

Early Tampa Bay at Dallas- Tampa is surprisingly good and the Cowboys are in freefall. I expect the Cowboys to continue to decline. Washington at Detroit- I like Washington, but this looks like the classic trap game. Buffalo at Miami- Buffalo plays their first AFC east game and doesn't dissapoint. St. Louis at New England- New England looks good one week and shits the bed the other. The Rams have improved, but they are not beating the Pats San Diego at New Orleans @ Wembley Stadium- This a huge game for both teams this week. If the Saints had Reggie Bush, I would have liked them to win. Drew Brees needs to come up huge or their cooked. Kansas City at NY Jets- the Jets must be kicking themselves losing to the Raiders. I like them to bounce back beating the hapless Chiefs. Atlanta at Philadelphia- I think Philly this one, inspired by the decline of the Cowboys Oakland at Baltimore- In my heart I want the Raiders to win, but being superstitious, I will continue to pick against the Raiders this season. Hey it worked against the Jets! Anyways, The Raiders have a dogshit offense and the Ravens still have an elite defense, and I can't see a sudden offensive assualt. I just hope JaMarcus Russell has a good game. I pick the Ravens. Arizona at Carolina- I like the Panthers to win to keep up with the Bucs. Even with a loss, the Cards are still in control of their division. Late Cleveland at Jacksonville- a tale of two dissapointing teams. I like the home team. Cincinnati at Houston- The Bengals will get their first win of the season. NY Giants at Pittsburgh- First big time game of the season. I think the Giants just have the better team, no knock on the Steelers. Seattle at San Francisco- Seattle looks lifeless out there and the 49ers will get an inspired win for their new head coach. Football on Monday night Indianapolis at Tennessee - The Colts are going nowhere this year and Titans will look to extract a little revenge for the years the Colts pounded on them.

I have to agree. The Raider offense is complete dogshit at times and below average at its best. Baltimore still has a great defense and I don't expect this offense to have this massive awakening out of no where. It'll be a low scoring game for sure though.
