Yeah, but when you're a pop star, as opposed to, say, rock musician, where maybe you can kinda cover your ass with the lyrics themselves being more important than how they're sung (Bob Dylan, Roger Waters, Thom Yorke, John Darnielle), you're kind of expected to have a great voice, since that's all you're there to do. It's not like Ashlee Simpson is coming out with albums that are signposts for rock music, or some of the most profound lyrics ever. Her job is only to sing, and there are better vocalists out there with much less exposure. Matt, she sounds as good live as she does on the record because she lip-syncs.
