You can't underestimate the box office power of gay men and middle aged women! And I agree with whoever said The X Files release next weekend is horrible timing. What are the projections for it, Bob? I think it only does $25 million tops. I think like Hellboy II, it would have been a bit better off as a fall release. How many people still really care about The X-Files

To be fair, I have seen literally no ads for Space Chimps. It's nothing I'd see in theaters but I like Andy Samberg,Patrick Warburton, and kids movies enough that it might be worth a rental.
-
No surprises here obviously. Any movies to add to the sub $1000 PSA, Bob?

Yeah, that Shotgun battle royal isn't that great but the commentary totally made it. Wish I could find it. Aforementioned WrestleMania 22 battle royal Part Two And one of my all time favorites, there's nothing I don't love about this match. Tells a good story too unlike most battle royals. Can't believe I didn't post it in the first post. WrestleMania IV battle royal

Regarding your second point, Cabbage

I really wanted to post the battle royal from an episode of Shotgun from September '98 featuring a newly turned face The Rock and a bunch of jobbers. One of my all-time favorites and I couldn't find it on YouTube or Dailymotion. I guess no one else watched Shotgun besides myself. Harumph! It used to be on YouTube with weird insider commentary by Kevin Kelly and Jim Cornette that was taken from a satellite feed.

....call me crazy but I wouldn't mind either of those. They've got a lot of untapped potential.

There are two kinds of wrestling fans, people who like battle royals and the group of wrestling fans led by that ogre Scott Keith who don't. I've always fell into the former group. I love them. It doesn't matter if it's ten 150 pound indy guys duking it out or those old World War III matches. I can't get enough of them. I don't think any of them are technically great and most are actually pretty mediocre work rate wise but I'm always wildly entertained. I can't explain it. Maybe- it's because you always know what you're getting- a bunch of dudes wailing on each other until one man's left standing. Unlike the Royal Rumble, with battle royals, my expectations are generally low so they're easily met. Here are some of my favorites; 20 Man WWF Intercontinental title battle royal with retro commercials (RAW 10-4-93) Part Two I don't know what I love more; All of the cheesy wrestlers from when I started watching wrestling around this time or the commercials! Mr. Nanny! Royal Rumble on Super NES! Rudy!. And hey- I thought MVP was a response to the '94 MLB strike. Weird to see him around before. 20 Man NFL Vs WWF Battle Royal (WrestleMania 2) 40 Man Battle Royal (From WWF Rampage Coliseum Video Exclusive) Mildly amusing to hear Lord Alfred berate all of the jobbers. Battlebowl '93 Battle Royal Part Two

Sometimes, I just hate IMDb....

Jim Carrey might not be a bad idea for The Riddler now that I think about it. He's certainly a much better actor now than he was in '95. I don't know if he could be sinister enough though. Robin Williams is probably a bit too old for the part but he can dial it down when he has to and he can play sinister. And he's already worked with Nolan.
-
I'm trying to think of who'd be a good Riddler and my mind is drawing a blank. I think The Riddler should probably be played by a comic actor or at the very least, an actor who has the capacity to do comedy but obviously not someone as wildly over the top as Frank Gorshin or Jim Carrey.

The OAO TSM "Happy Birthday, you!" Thread
King Kamala replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in No Holds Barred
Jearan? They banned him because he revealed the painful truth that deep down we're all stupid goths who hate everything except ROH. -
I don't know. People with casual interest in it might be waiting it out for a few more days for the crowds to thin out a bit. If I hadn't been invited to see this, I probably would have waited until Tuesday ($5 night at one of the local theaters) to see this.

WWE 24/7 Classics OnDemand General Discussion
King Kamala replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in WWE Multimedia
World Tour '96 is to Coliseum Videos what Heroes of Wrestling is to pay per views. It's just bad beyond belief. I speculate its suckiness can be attributed to a bunch of the wrestlers having jetlag and/or food poisoning. -
I'd love to see The Penguin as the bad guy in the third one (providing they make a third one) but we all know that ain't happening unfortunately. Bane would be a great villain but he's kind of obscure. Maybe make him a secondary villain.

The audience for the most part was pretty good around me. There was (I presume) a theater hopper who walked in confused during a pivotal moment ( ). The only person that talked quite a bit near me was my best friend and he shut up for the most part after the first ten minutes or so. Cabbage- there's about twenty minutes of footage shot with the IMAX cameras. Mostly the action scenes I'm guessing. I wish I could go to a showing at an IMAX theater but the nearest one is an hour and forty minutes away.

I liked Gyllenhaal better than Holmes but she was the weakest link. The Rachel Dawes part really is kind of unneccessary but I guess there's got to be some principal female character. Come to mention it, I don't remember Bruce Wayne's love interests in the Burton/Schumacher series being particularly interesting either.

I kind of hope there isn't another Batman movie. I mean I loved the first two but let's look at the track records for third movies in superhero movie series Superman III (suck)) Batman Forever (suck) Blade Trinity(suck) X3(suck) Spiderman 3 (suck) They should probably stop here with the Batman movies? Will they? As the great Gorilla Monsoon would say "Highly unlikely"

Man oh man oh man. So I went to this with a bunch of friends (It was my best friend's birthday) and he bought the tickets for the 3:15 showing at The CineMagic Grand in South Portland a couple days ago and picked up the tickets yesterday. About 2:30, a huge motherfucking thunderstorm hits and knocks out the power at theater. Lucly, they told him that the tickets would be good at the other CineMagic 15 minutes away and I hadn't started heading over. So everything turned up Millhouse for us. We even got to see the movie five minutes earlier than we would have at the other theater. Theater was about 90% filled which is a huge audience for a 3:10 matinee on a Friday. After the movie, we came out and there was an even huger fucking thunderstorm with 60 MPH wind. Enough of that boring backstory, now for my boring thoughts on the movie. I pretty much agree with everybody on here. Great great movie. Possibly the best superhero movie of all time. Yeah, the praise for it is a tad hyperbolic (Greatest movie I've ever seen? #3 on IMDb's #250? Uh...probably not) but if you have any passing interest in Batman, action movies, crime dramas, or thrillers, GO SEE THIS! Heath Ledger's performance lived up to the hype and I got to praise Aaron Eckhart who was also pretty amazing. Awesome ensemble cast too, great performances from top to bottom. I don't see movie audiences mark out that much at the theater but when they went BANANA!

There aren't enough facepalm pictures on the internet to convey my reaction to that...

They were also showing Batman Forever on there. I just watched that a month or so ago. Has aged poorly and I didn't even like it that much in the first place. Would it blasphemous to say that Batman Forever is in the same stratosphere of suck as Batman and Robin? I mean the latter is obviously worse but I can't say the former is that much better. Anyways, I'm seeing this at 3:15. Trying not to get too pumped up for this one. If I have any interesting thoughts, I'm sure I'll post them here afterwards.

I finally saw The TV Set last night on one of the on demand channels and I really enjoyed it. One of the most depressing comedies I've seen in a while (and I mean that in a good way). One minor fault is the antagonists are wildly sympathetic. I guess you can't fault a movie for having antagonists that are too unlikeable but some mildly sympathetic traits would have been nice for the evil network executives. Again, it's a very minor complaint. I've got to say though the guy who played the dopey star of the sitcom stole the show for me. I don't think I'd seen him before this.

One of my all time favorites. Ladysmith Black Mambazo! John Candy! Jeremy Irons! Keith Hernandez!

Well it's no "Me Lost Me Cookie At The Disco"... And there'll be no dissing of Sesame Street and/or The Muppets in this thread!
-
It was on FX last night and I assume it'll be on all weekend if you don't mind it being a little bit censored. I don't know if the premium channels are showing it.
