  1. The fact that they're splintering the market with DSi only games is a bit questionable. I'd think that these features would have been better served for a full-fledged DS2. But Nintendo knows what they're doing. They've never really made a significant upgrade to existing hardware before, and it makes me wonder if this is the beginning of a new direction for them. Maybe there never will be an official successor to the DS the way the PS2 was to the PS1 or the N64 was to the SNES. Maye they'll just keep iterating and releasing new models with extra features the way Apple does with the iPod and eventually we'll get to the technological level of a true follow-up, even if it won't be marketed as such. But then, "DS2" is too good a marketing gimmick to pass up. And you'd have to think eventually they'll want to release something with better graphics, even if graphics have little to do with the system's success. They really should have put an accelerometer in there. You know, 'cause the iPhone has one. Speaking of which, how long before there's a DS Phone?
  2. They are? Wii Points are being renamed "Nintendo Points", so I was under the impression that you could use them for both systems. But apparently not?
  3. Really now? Incidentally, when did you get your DS (if you have one)? The DS' game lineup was pretty much total crap until Canvas Curse. The GBA slot helped urge on early adoption. Could you imagine having nothing to play on that thing early on except stuff like Zoo Keeper, Feel the Magic, and tragically terrible-controlling titles like Mario 64 DS and Rayman? The DS also extended the lifespan of the GBA platform. Also--the GBA slot was used for the rumble pack and some unauthorized accessories (namely flash carts with ROMs). I got my DS in April 2006. So I didn't have to suffer through the launch abyss. I worded that wrong. I should have said the GBA slot hardly anyone USES. I don't think many people use it now. But I'm sure you've already figured out why they took it out. Did you like Super Mario Advance, Golden Sun, Advance Wars, and Metroid Fusion? Well, prepare to buy them all over again for 1000 Nintendo Points apiece with the new DS Virtual Console! That way Nintendo gets ten bucks of pure profit out of selling their GBA games rather than the...zero dollars they get when you buy them used at EB. The biggest problem, as ChrisMWaters alluded to, is the Guitar Hero deal. I can't imagine why anyone would want to play GH on a handheld, but apparently many, many hundreds of thousands do. The rumble pack doesn't really matter at all. Did any games use it besides Metroid Prime Pinball?
  4. YES THAT WAS AWESOME Man, now I bet Shamrock could've won.
  5. I got the impression that the show would be a mix of old and new. Bruiser, can you point me towards these lineups?
  6. http://www.spike.com/blog/unsolved-mysteries/64593 This article is seven months old, but it tells you all you need to know. Starts October 13th. This rules. Unsolved Mysteries was one of my favorite shows when I was a wee lad. Every weeknight at 7 on Lifetime, then new episodes Wednesday, and later Friday, at 8. When it left NBC I fell out of the loop. I never really watched it on CBS, but I did see some of the new episodes they made for Lifetime in 2001. It was nice to see Stack out there in his 80s doing the same old act. It bummed me out when he died. But now it's back, with Dennis Farina. He seems like he'd be a good choice. I'm glad they stuck with the "star of old-school crime drama as host" approach, rather than picking a younger, hipper dude. I like my UM hosts to be grizzled, experienced and as serious as the rubella virus. I always felt that the Unsolved Mysteries concept was one that could be repurposed over and over again because there are always going to be unsolved crimes out there. Here's hoping for a healthy revival. Favorite episode: The Alcatraz escape show. Can't find it on Youtube 'cuz apparently the producers are all vigilant about that shit. That's OK, I have it on DVD. And VHS!
  7. Haha, the McCain campaign posted this fake quote before they could find a celebrity who would agree to have it falsely attributed to them. Peggy Noonan later accepted ownership of the quote, by the way.
  8. Oh, this thread went out on a high note.
  9. http://www.1up.com/do/my1Up?publicUserId=5379721 It's funny to see Jeremy Parish, just like everyone else associated with 1up and EGM (except John Davison, who no longer works there) getting all butthurt about Nintendo turning their back on REAL GAMERS because they removed the GBA slot hardly anyone used at the same time they announced a slate of hardcore Japanese games for their system. Pick your battles, doggy.
  10. Isn't he the dude who creates all the Republican buzzwords like "climate change" and "death tax?" He does polls on Fox, right? Their results were similar for the Obama-McCain debate. Their audience is mostly conservative. We all know that.
  11. Damn, Biden is BALD.
  12. Did you all miss Biden almost crying?
  13. OH SHIT HILLARY MOMENT

  16. There were a few GBA games released in '07, but none in '08. It's dead.

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/10/02/cave-sto...new-content-an/ Cave Story on WiiWare! That's cool. I know you can play it for free on your computer and all, but whatever, I'll probably get it on Wii. I can't play a game like that with my keyboard or my 360 controller.
  18. Hey Marv, your boy Glenn is on CNN right now saying McCain just cost himself the election by voting for the bailout.

In Japan, Pikmin will cost $36 (3800 Yen). They're also releasing DK: Jungle Beat, which I've never played and have long thought would have been a better fit for Wii than that "Barrel Blast" thing if they had to take a Bongo game and awkwardly shoehorn Wii controls into it. Still, $36 is a lot to ask for a rerelease of a seven-year-old game. But you have to figure there are a lot of Wii owners out there who never had a Gamecube, so why not? If Nintendo actually had a real hard drive, I'd think this is the sort of thing that would be good for a download service. But such are the dreams of fools like I. EDIT: In addition to those two, they're also going to be releasing: Pikmin 2 Mario Power Tennis Chibi Robo Metroid Prime Metroid Prime 2
  20. November in Japan, '09 everywhere else. Andrew, you forgot to mention the SD slot and the app store.

The rumor is that it's coming out in 2011. Which it probably is. Nintendo releases their consoles on a five-year cycle. But there's no way they announce that today. They would never announce a new console three years in advance. The new DS is far more likely, though I still don't think that's a lock. Their conference in Japan starts in under three hours, I think.
  22. Yeah, well I googled the name "SuperJerk" and I got Sebastian Bach lyrics!
  23. oh jeez
  24. That Billy Madison clip might have been funny if it didn't come from Air America. They're still around? Palin's Couric interview tonight was incredible. "Which magazines and newspapers did you read as governor of Alaska?" "Oh, you know, all of 'em." "Can you name any specific magazines?" "I read all of 'em, I have a variety of sources..." COULDN'T EVEN NAME ONE FREAKIN' NEWSPAPER OR MAGAZINE
  25. I didn't have a problem with goofy Angle during his feud with HHH. It made for a good dynamic. But once he won the belt, they should have dropped the comedy from his character. Now Kurt's saying when his TNA contract expires, he's doing MMA. Maybe he will, but I think it's more likely he's angling (PUN!) for a big raise in his next deal, or for WWE to offer him a deal, and preferably to be able to play both sides to get the highest amount of money.
