Yeah, I'm sure they wanted to do the same thing for the Blu-Ray players. It's an INDUSTRY-WIDE blu-ray diode shortage, raza. Sony doesn't have "enough," but neither do other companies. And it's not a minor shortage, but a massive one. Plus, you seem to forget that Sony is banking on the included Blu-Ray drive big time to sell movies on. Sony would have to be Sega-level retarded to be doing an artificial shortage at this point. I do believe that Sony has/will have plenty more than the launch ps3s available shortly after, but it's still going to be a pathetic amount. I just have missed that fanboy WOM, though. All I hear about is people selling the PS3 online.

Some info on the DS spinoff, Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings: http://www.dsfanboy.com/2006/11/06/new-rev...ails-uncovered/ In short: It's a sequel to XII. Vaan, Fran, and Balthier will be in it. Probably plenty of locations from the PS2 game. And naturally the battle system will be reworked--

Terriffic, although I want it first week. For Zelda obviously, but also because I do *not* want to have to be doing much shopping after Black Friday. The PS3 nonsense has already made going to the big retailers a real mess.

Officially? No. Sadly a Master System collection of only first party stuff would be scanty. I'm fairly sure there have been folks making Dreamcast discs of Master System stuff, though. And Psycho Fox is still really fun. Did you ever get to play it?: http://www.emucamp.com/frames.html?/reviews/sms/psycho.html As mentioned previously, it's a shame we didn't get any of the Sega Ages Phantasy Stars (at least the first one was released in Japan). Here's a review of the first of the remakes: http://www.siliconera.com/ps2/phantasystarg1/031003.htm I played some of King of Dragons SNES a few weeks ago. Terrific fun. Naturally I was the elf-looking dude with the bow, and a friend was the cleric. Controls VERY VERY well even today. I still don't get why Sega America seems to hate the Streets of Rage games so much. They really should have put them into the Genesis collection. The first game is kind of so-so, but it's better than SNES final fight, IMO. Streets of Rage 2 of course needs no introduction--one of the best beat 'em ups ever with a terrific soundtrack. There's quite a lot of moves too. Streets of Rage 3 had a few problems with it, but with Game Genie you can play as Ash: http://www.spong.com/news/y/o/youreagaym205728l.jpg I was at a Gamestop today when a guy came in asking about if the store had an "old Sega" or "any of the games." The clerks had to tell him no. He mentioned he was interested in playing Golden Ax again and I told him about the Genesis Collection. It didn't take much convincing other than showing the game list and he was sold on it.

On the Hi-Def thing: Nintendo claims there isn't enough of a market demanding it now, plus they're marketing to a lot of people who don't care about Hi-Def anyway. It will save developers money, too. On availability: Nintendo claims a million North American consoles at launch, with regular shipments after that (a fellow from Gamestop says probably weekly shipments). If you show up on launch day at a big retailer you should get one.

I played some of Motorstorm today on the PS3 at Best Buy. It's...a pretty game...on an HDTV. But, that's really all I have to say about it. The controller feels exactly the same except for the angled L2/R2 triggers, and I don't like them that way. There were about 10 tents pitched out in front of the store with people there. Curiously, none were at Wal-Mart and only 1 was at Circuit City. However, I find it funny that there are PS3s *everywhere* in retail stores for display. Most of them are playable ones that are hooked up, too.

And the waiting begins anew. The season 2 DVD set has been announced for March 2007, BTW! http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=6519

The OAO Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess Thread

What kind of worries me is that Nintendo has been mum on the VGA front, although it was confirmed earlier. VGA would be a fine substitute temporarily until the price becomes better / the current TV dies. There's also Component to VGA connectors out there too, correct? -

Okay, that clears things up a bit for me. Actually, word is now that Nintendo will put the component cables in stores--major retailers will get them first but they're also available online. MSRP is $29.99. Considering the massive profits they'd make per cable, and the fact that the cables always sold out when Nintendo sold the GC ones online, it makes sense they should offer them more easily. -
I think the first two Sega Ages releases came out in Japan, but that they nixed them for the US. That would explain the US release (which was supposed to cancel them all out) being cancelled. It's a shame: Phantasy Star IV being remade by itself would be incredible. There was that GBA collection, but it was only the first 3 games. They threw in a nice inventory of the item shops' goodies and what their effects were, because the original games didn't include that (you had to buy something to find out what it would actually do in PS1 and PS2, and the names were really abbreviated).

So, Progressive Scan would be either one, but 720+ is HD? -

What actually makes an HD set "HD"? Is it HD if it supports component/s-video/HDMI, etc, or is there something else? And 480p is going to be worlds better than what I'm getting now, but I assume they detail what the set can and can't do on the specs. -
Yesterday was the release of two new compilations: Sega Genesis Collection and Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2. Both are assembled by Digital Eclipse, who also brought us the original Capcom Classics. Neither are really worth a thread on their own, but with both of them out, the upcoming Virtual Console, Gametap, XBLA getting "classics" now and then--lots of companies currently are trying to make money off old games. So, for this thread, any games originally released more than 2 console generations ago, or (if not applicable) older than 8 years old should qualify. So, pretty PS1/N64/Saturn I'd say no--anything older sure. I've not found Capcom Classics 2--but here's the game list: 1941: Counter Attack Avengers Black Tiger Block Block Captain Commando Eco Fighters King of Dragons Knights of the Round Last Duel Magic Sword Mega Twins Quiz and Dragons Side Arms Hyper Dyne The Speed Rumbler Street Fighter Strider Super Street Fighter II Turbo Three Wonders Tiger Road Varth: Operation Thunderstorm The Sega Genesis Collection has the following (and I do have that): Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle Altered Beast Bonanza Bros. (Previously unreleased in the US) Columns Comix Zone Decap Attack Ecco the Dolphin Ecco: The Tides of Time Ecco Jr. Flicky Gain Ground Golden Axe Golden Axe II Golden Axe III (previously unreleased in the US) Kid Chameleon Phantasy Star II Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium Ristar Shadow Dancer: The Secret of Shinobi Shinobi III Sonic the Hedgehog Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Super Thunder Blade Sword of Vermillion Vectorman Vectorman 2 Virtua Fighter 2 (Genesis version) Bonus unlockables (PS2 only): Zaxxon Tac/Scan Zektor Altered Beast (arcade version) The collection is rated T; there's no Shining Force or Streets of Rage because--remember, this is still Sega, so for some reason we get crap like Decap Attack. Plus, Sega seems to want to pretend SoR never happened. Yeah, you could just emulate 'em too. So if you plan to make a smart-ass post stating that, kindly go to hell. Thankfully, unlike the sonic compilations put out recently, there's no ridiculous requirements to unlock the bonus games. Unlocking is done by either just "playing" (i.e. starting and exiting back to the game menu) the existing games once, or meeting some easily-achievable in-game requirements. For example, beating level 2 on Altered Beast and finishing the first full level of Comix Zone. The game tells you what to do for the unlockables too. The interface is clean, the emulation is good (some of sound is cleaned up it appears, and progressive scan is supported), and it's cheap. From what I understand, the bonus games are Master System except for Altered Beast Arcade. Oddly, while the have the crappy Decap Attack, they don't have the infinitely superior Master System Psycho Fox, which DA is based on. Ecco Jr. must be in there as a joke, or just because they had the other Ecco games. There aren't any enemies that can hurt you, you can breathe underwater forever, and nothing ever really happens except for you collecting. In summary--Ecco Jr. is fine if you are about 3 years old and couldn't handle the *intense* action of the other two Genesis Ecco games.

Kotaku is reporting that Best Buy has apparently recieved TP early and are selling it: http://kotaku.com/gaming/wii/zelda-twiligh...-now-215083.php It *would* have to be Best Buy (which I have none of nearby). -
The OAO Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess Thread

Since we're on that topic, some opinions on the following, please?: I'm currently gaming on an 8-year old 19" SDTV that only has RF input. That's wired to a game selector switch. So compared to even enhanced def, my games surely look like ass compared to what they could be. However, the thought of paying any more than $300 for a new TV kills me. I've seen a lot of cheap TVs that have support for component cables, but are CRTs. I could easily get a good sized one for less than $200. Usually on display the picture doesn't seem to be too great tho--also it seems a lot of the time they are connected up with standard RF cables. Also, some time, near or distant future, I will either get a 360 or PS3. Stuff like Assassin's Creed make it seem very tempting. A new TV will surely last me many years, but should I jump and get one of those CRTs with component support? I've noticed some of the LCDs are getting rather affordable if you don't mind a smaller set, but I've heard about problems with motion-blurring, which could be a problem for gaming. Yet, if the ones with component cables are simply a case of "yeah, it'll work, but you won't notice any difference," maybe it's best I wait. Thoughts? EDIT: The wii also is supposed to support VGA--so I suppose that would be a good option as well to consider. -

Jeremy Parish basically believes the hype on the game length: http://www.toastyfrog.com/verbalspew/pivot...php?id=222#comm Also--get those component cables if you have a choice. Sadly, I don't. -
No, it appeared that the tops of them were bulging out to a larger area than the rest of the case, which would make them difficult to organize/stack. My perceptions were incorrect, though. If I had my way they'd be CD jewel-case sized.
-
The case is almost exactly the same as a 360 case except for the color. The disc holder, the areas where it snaps together, the weight--all the same. However, there's a Wii logo just above the disc. On the back of the box, in the upper right corner are icons indicating the recommended weapons for taking on the game. In this case, it's the Wii Remote and Nunchuck attachment. When you open it, there are two hinges at the far end of the spine--which is rather weird for a one-disc game. The Wii logo is right above the DVD holder.

I don't own a digital camera, sorry. Nor a scanner.

Anya beat it already. At first she said it was "good" not "great." Then she changed her mind when she found out Cliffy B is a huge Buffy fan (which would explain the character named Anya, and Cliffy's bunny suit). Ever since then she says its OMG GOTY!!1
-
CAW is there for any of them worth playing as. Plus, you never know when drug users/WWE-rejects-cum-TNA-rejects will be hired back. They're already in!! And most of the OVW standouts are the same damn wrestler with the same damn moveset. Just rename them/change their finisher and voila. With hacks, No Mercy can be updated to almost no limits. You'll have to put up with slightly lumpy/blocky wrestlers, but graphics whores probably moved on a long time ago.
-
A few Wii games are out already: Happy Feet, Spongebob, and Trauma Center 2nd Opinion. I bought Trauma Center. I would rate the box 8/10: very pretty and white, but shame it isn't smaller than a DVD case like the PS3 cases are. Now I just need a Wii system, Zelda, and maybe Elebits.

I don't have the rumble pack, but I have Drill Dozer on GBA. It's really kind of "eh" for the rumble, but I suppose you wouldn't want too much on this sort of game anyway. The Ouendan I ordered came. I was blazing through most of it pretty easily--then I got to a level where this dude was making pottery, and the 3rd section of it...BAM...the elite (or whatever it is called) gauge just DROPS and DROPS and DROPs. Several 100 pointers killed me over and over.

http://ps3.ign.com/articles/745/745271p1.html Meanwhile, 360 owners are stuck with a mere 20 GB because their HDDs need to be specially made to fit with the 360. MS isn't much better. Anya was sold that she "was screwed" by one of the reps.
