  1. Smoke and Mirrors did come out, though (maybe it didn't come out in Canada?). OMG, I remember reading about Desert Bus. It was a pretty much completely straight road, but it would have slight changes in direction now and then, so that if you did something like tape the controller down, you'd end up going off the road and have to start over. The Sega CD had lots of games that seemed to exist only as torture devices.
  2. DMC = Capcom game, had its roots in a next-gen Resident Evil engine. Castlevania (N64) and Legacy of Darkness = Konami published games developed by Konami Computer Entertainment Kyoto. The first game was rushed out for Christmas as an unfinished mess, and the later, much better Legacy of Darkness was pretty damn good for the time period. I like it myself. However, 9 out of 10 hack game reviewers preface their reviews of Castlevania games by saying "boy, those N64 games sucked." Most of the time they never played the games or didn't know Legacy of Darkness existed. The N64 CVs were less the hardcore action games the classics were, and more platforming/exploration games. So no. However, spiritually, DMC takes a lot of hints from Castlevania. Iga wishes he could make a 3D Castlevania that good.
  3. Okami was a solid 40ish hours. I have little trouble believing TP will be significantly longer. But I hate the X number of hours argument as well. It means nothing if those hours aren't fun at all to play.
  4. Chrono Trigger was like 25 hours, and is better than 90% of RPGs out there. It didn't need to be any more. Well, on SNES. Add a crapload more time if you playing the broken PS1 version.
  5. But most RPGs are stuffed with packing-peanut random battles, so their purported length often tends to be pretty lame and hardly is in their favor. And on the flipside, a lot of Ocarina was empty space with few/no enemies, while this one is supposed to be way harder.
  6. It doesn't really mean anything one way or another that there's a lot of tards willing to pay 3x retail to get a PS3. There will always be idiots with too much money for their own good and/or the wisdom to use it well. Oh, some good news: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/745/745259p1.html One year warranty on PS3. It's about ****ing time, Sony. EDIT: apparently the slim PS2 and PSP had 1 year warranties already; the PS1 and original PS2 had 90 days. Now one could only hope that Sony's customer service improves, rather than attempting to put the blame on you somehow when their shit breaks.
  7. Ironically Van Helsing was a better game than a movie. It was a 3rd rate Devil May Cry clone, but still....
  8. It's good to play together.

I wonder if the signpost text was flipped as well with the rest of the game...? I'd say it would be best to ask a Japanese gamer who could read the Hylian. I know they're out there.

Red Steel is a Ubisoft game, not a Nintendo game.
  11. Here's hoping there's some police brutality + Queen music.
  12. Why? Gears of War? Yes, another shooter is just what 360 needed to expand its offers to larger demographics.

Sega makes a mediocre game. Will wonders never cease? Some bad news for Virual Console: Rumble won't be supported in the N64 titles, regardless of what controller you use. For most games that's no biggie--but I'll stick to any one of my other 4 versions of Ocarina of Time, thank you.
  14. I don't think all of the EA games were released until 2005--but Madden was, at least. However, if he does get a PS2 for him this year, he won't be alone. Let's face it, the biggest-selling console this Christmas will almost definitely be the PS2 yet again. The exception likely being Japan, where likely another million or so DSes will be purchased.
  15. "Mature" means you swear a lot, use the occasional racial slur, and require a certain minimal level of gore, violence, and/or space marines in your games, right? The EA sports games are on every system. That's not an advantage PS2 has over any other console except Gamecube. PS2 will likely get the EA games for the next 3 years, though. Let's face it, the PS3 isn't even going to be available for the mass market until the middle of next year, and even then the price tag will encourage EA to put versions on the more established/affordable consoles. The very last Madden game the PS1 got was Madden 2005!!!! There's still plenty of $$$ for them to make on the PS2.
  16. Who will be Death?
  17. I've finally cleared novice (held up by Jumping Jack Flash for a little, that is), and had begun on normal. Canned Heat is creaming me now. It shifts from slow to fast beats so quick it's hard to adjust. Plus, the elite gauge drops so quick that if you don't get plenty of 300s you'll be screwed in a hurry. To play the last few songs, do you have to clear Normal or Hard? By fiddling around with the options, I discovered that the game is compatible with the Rumble Pak. Do you only get the Pak when you get Metroid Prime pinball?
  18. There's a few pieces you need to put in the tray--it's easier to mod than the older PS2: http://www.swapmagic3.com/ The new PS2 colors have been modified a little--so read up on what you'd need for your model.
  19. Believe me--I don't think that Paul is just going to roll out of bed and make a worse movie than Van Helsing without even trying. He's going to have to *work* at it, and I have faith he can pull it off. Note from Kotaku: I wonder what the disagreement was? I'm calling it right now--Milla Jovavich is Sonia Belmont! Count on it.
  20. Original link works for me, and it could technically go in either. AVP/RE is more recent. Plus for some stupid reason, those movies made buttloads of money--well, mostly on DVDs, but still. I'm still holding out hope that this'll turn out to be another Metroid, with all talks of it being sucked into oblivion, but it isn't looking good.
  21. The big draw has to be the question "can Paul WS Anderson, given a smaller budget, likely a less talented cast, and a similar concept, possibly make a movie worse than Van Helsing?" I have faith that he can. He just needs to find a more flamingly gay Dracula, a stiffer Belmont than Hugh Jackman, and he can make Milla Jovavich the obligatory magic-using girl...who knows martial arts...and ends up laying the smack down on Dracula after whatever Belmont is featured dies in the 2nd act.
  22. The top is absolutely horrifying. http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/uploads/c...vanie110606.jpg Nice suck-ass font and reminder of who is directing this crapfest.
  23. Guitar Hero 2 apparently doesn't work on PS3 (and I assume 1 wouldn't...) http://ps3.ign.com/articles/745/745329p1.html
  24. The shadow of Halo will loom over this game like nothing else. When H3 comes out everyone will say "Gears of What?"
  25. Jeremy Parish got to play up until the end of the 2nd dungeon: http://www.1up.com/do/previewPage?cId=3155134 And that took about 10 hours for an actual seasoned player. Not just Nintendo's estimates. So yeah, this is an insanely huge game. I'm glad I already called off work for the release day.
