Sorry but Tuesday is just way too early in the week for football. National television schedule for this week. Annoying three time slot, two games for ABC this week. West Coast gets the afternoon Utah game and the rest of the country is split between the two early games. Again this week all discussion of the Oklahoma/Nebraska game should go in the OaO Oklahoma Football Thread. BCS bids on the line this week with Georgia/Auburn and Miami/Virginia. I really have no idea why Boise State/San Jose State is being played at 9 in the morning on the west coast and on national television to boot. Must be some gimmick. TUESDAY Toledo at Northern Illinois, 7:45/4:45 PM, ESPN2 WEDNESDAY TCU at #14 Louisville, 7:00/4:00 PM, ESPN2 THURSDAY #12 Florida State at N.C. State, 7:45/4:45 PM, ESPN FRIDAY Southern Miss at Memphis, 8:00/5:00 PM, ESPN2 Hawaii at Fresno State, 10:30/7:30 PM, ESPN SATURDAY #23 Boston College at #13 West Virginia, Noon/9:00 AM, ABC* Northwestern at #9 Michigan, Noon/9:00 AM, ABC* #20 Iowa at Minnesota, Noon/9:00 AM, ESPN #10 Boise State at San Jose State, Noon/9:00 AM, ESPN2 #6 Texas at Kansas, 12:30 PM/9:30 AM, FSN Pittsburgh at #25 Notre Dame, 2:30 PM/11:30 AM, NBC #8 Georgia at #3 Auburn, 3:30/12:30 PM, CBS #17 Miami at #11 Virginia, 3:30/12:30 PM, ABC* #5 Wisconsin at Michigan State, 3:30/12:30 PM, ABC* Texas Tech at #21 Texas A&M, 3:30/12:30 PM ABC* UCLA at Oregon, 3:30/12:30 PM, ABC* Ohio State at Purdue, 3:30/12:30 PM, ESPN #7 Utah at Wyoming, 7:00/4:00 PM, ABC* South Carolina at Florida, 7:00/4:00 PM, ESPN2 Nebraska at #2 Oklahoma, 7:00/4:00 PM, FSN Washington State at #16 Arizona State, 7:00/4:00 PM, TBS Alabama at #19 LSU, 7:45/4:45 PM, ESPN Arizona at #1 USC, 10:15/7:15 PM, FSN

I didn't even notice this until I was looking at the full Top 25. What's amazing is the reason why they are so high is the computers. Here's what the Top 10 is by just using the computer averages: 1. Oklahoma 2. USC 3. Auburn 4. California 5. Texas 6t. Boise State 6t. Arizona State 8. Utah 9. Wisconsin 10. Michigan Everyone complains about the voter polls, with good reason, but are BSU and ASU really better than only five teams in the entire country? The problem is the practice of throwing out the highest and lowest computer ranking. This ain't figure skating, if your going to have all these computer formuals they should all be counted.

How in the world did Daniel Cabrera receive more votes than Zach Greinke? Oh wait Cabrera went 12-8 and Greinke went 8-11 despite having an ERA more than a run worse and absolutely hideous strikeout to walk ratio. Baseball writers are clueless.

Even though the game will be Austin I'd bet good money that Texas loses to A&M.

http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1917367 I'm lukewarm on the whole idea but early March is definently the best time to hold it and more likely to get strong participation from star players then doing it after the season. 16 countries though? Let's see you'd have United States, Japan, South Korea, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Canada, maybe Cuba, Panama, Australia. That's ten, maybe eleven. I don't know what other countries could field even marginally competitive team and a few of those listed aren't exactly going to be that good as well. I'd go with eight countries.

UCLA (4-1, 5-5) 2. Stanford (3-2, 8-2) 2. Washington State (3-2, 6-4) 4. Oregon (3-3, 6-4) 5. Boise State (2-2, 4-6) 6. USC (2-3, 5-5) 6. Hawaii (2-3, 4-6) 8. Arizona State (1-4, 3-7) Big MAC 1. West Virginia (1-3, 4-6) 8. Florida State (1-4, 3-7) If anyone was wondering about tiebreakers when it comes to playing in the conference championship game this is how it will work. Obviously if it's a tie between two teams for second place the winner of their head-to-head match-up during the season will go to the conference championship. For three-way ties or even a four-way tie it will work like this: 1. Head-to-head results between the three (or four) teams 2. Overall records 3. BCS rankings

Wow wouldn't this be a bizarre circumstance for the biggest upset of the college football season. Beavers up 3-0 and driving.
-
Damnit Stanford's bowl hopes go down the drain as ASU scores with nine seconds left to win the game. The hail mary at the end of the first half was just a killer. Stanford wasn't expected to do much but this season become a real dissapointment with all the promise early in the season but three tough losses that they could have won (Notre Dame, Oregon, and now tonight) have ended their hopes. They can still be bowl eligible by winning their final two games but that includes winning the Big Game against Cal and you can forget that. With UCLA being upset by Wazzu today there is a real chance the Pac-10 will only have four bowl eligible teams. The conference is just too damn even after you get past USC and Cal.

Updated with CMU/EMU going final: #3 Washington State (bravesfan) def. #5 UCLA (phoenixrising) #2 Minnesota (Vern Gagne) def. Bowling Green (iggymcfly) USC (Cartman) def. #7 Oregon (nogoodnick) by tiebreak Tennessee (Kotzenjunge) def. #9 Notre Dame (Lando Griffin) One game left with one match-up to be decided.
-
Yes Tennesse is still pretty much a lock for the SEC title game with Kentucky and Vanderbilt all that is left on their schedule. All today's loss meant is they have to win the SEC title game to go to a BCS bowl as their chances for an at large bid went out the door today. Notre Dame all but locks up the Gator Bowl with today's win. It's really annoying when Fox Sports uses home announcers for national telecasts. Watching Stanford/Arizona State and all the announcers can do is lick ASU's nuts even though they are losing. Texas is getting their ass kicked by Oklahoma State right now, 28-7.

Purdue/Iowa and Arizona/Washington go final. Updated list of match-ups decided: Edit: Now with Oklahoma/Texas A&M going final. #4 Ohio State (Gert T) def. Michigan State (Dangerous A) by forfeit #6 Syracuse (Canadian Chris) def. Miami (Spaceman Spiff) Alabama (AlwaysPissedOff) def. Oklahoma (Damaramu) by tiebreak LSU (teke184) def. Auburn (Agent of Oblivion) Michigan (Mad Dog) def. #8 West Virginia (Loaded Glove) #10 Stanford (Bored) def. Arizona State (Spicy McHaggis) Texas (Flyboy) def. Georgia (A_MikeSC) Rutgers (the pinjockey) def. Boston College (HarleyQuinn); pinjockey holds tiebreak Boise State (Vern Gagne/*dead team*) def. Florida (Agent Bond34)

Oregon's Keith Allen drops a wide open pass to put the Ducks well in field goal range on 4th and 10 and Cal will escape with the win.
-
Cal misses a field goal with for minutes to go. Still up 28-27, the difference being an Oregon missed extra point.
-
Combination of bad match-ups in the WAC this week and that Fresno State has played like shit since their first two wins. Rice had also been undefeated at home so I figured it would at least be competitive.
-
Iowa State hangs on to beat Nebraska and as of right now the Cyclones control their own destiny to go the Big XII title game. Think about that. They have a chance to go to a BCS game or not go to a bowl game at all.
-
Indiana/Illionis and Nebraska/Iowa State have gone final. Fresno State is destroying Rice (okay bad pick for a WAC game by me) so I'll give them that game. So here is the updated list of match-ups decided: #4 Ohio State (Gert T) def. Michigan State (Dangerous A) by forfeit #6 Syracuse (Canadian Chris) def. Miami (Spaceman Spiff) Alabama (AlwaysPissedOff) def. Oklahoma (Damaramu) by tiebreak LSU (teke184) def. Penn State (therealworldschampion); teke holds tiebreak Hawaii (Will Scarlet) def. Florida State (2GOLD) Kent State (JHawk) def. Auburn (Agent of Oblivion)
-
Don't look now Oregon goes up 27-14 on Cal in the 2nd. Kellen Clemens with four touchdown passes already. Cal answers and cuts it back to 27-21. Cincinnati is pummeling Southern Miss 31-10. Nebraska has cut Iowa State's lead to seven with five minutes to go.
-
Okay Air Force/Army and Colorado/Kansas are over so here is what match-ups are decided: #4 Ohio State (Gert T) def. Michigan State (Dangerous A) by forfeit #6 Syracuse (Canadian Chris) def. Miami (Spaceman Spiff) Alabama (AlwaysPissedOff) def. Oklahoma (Damaramu) by tiebreak LSU (teke184) def. Penn State (therealworldschampion); teke holds tiebreak

Please anything related to Oklahoma let's keep it in the other thread. Lots of bonus coverage on ESPN2 right now. First had Pittsburgh/Syracuse that is going to overtime and on right now is Arkansas/South Carolina. Hogs have taken a 32-28 lead with three minutes left.

Lieber has been a solid starter but Radke is definently better. Only Johan Santana and Curt Schilling had better years than Radke in the A.L. this year. Just a couple of statistical comparrisons. Lieber debuted in '94, Radke '95. ERA+ (Radke/Lieber) 1994: Minors/117 1995: 89/69 1996: 115/110 1997: 121/96 1998: 109/105 1999: 135/119 2000: 118/97 2001: 115/111 2002: 94/109 2003: 103/injured 2004: 136/104 VORP (Radke/Lieber) 1994: Minors/7.0 1995: 15.8/-10.0 1996: 49.4/21.1 1997: 49.1/17.0 1998: 39.9/14.8 1999: 63.8/32.7 2000: 48.6/45.4 2001: 47.1/47.1 2002: 14.7/22.2 2003: 32.8/injured 2004: 60.1/27.3 Only 2002 has Lieber been definently better than Radke and they were about even in 2001. Also Radke is three years younger than Lieber and one of the most durable pitchers in baseball.

Baseball-Reference.com has Hernandez listed as turning 39 on October 11th. MLB.com has him four years younger.
