Women's basketball hands down. The men's game is bad enough now but at least it can be semi-entertaining. The women's game is just boring as hell and the amount coverage it gets for the ratings it pulls in is unwarranted.

I 3rd the Brewers as the team who will have the worst record in baseball this year. The Tigers are going still lose at least 95 games this year even with Pudge. For them to be a .500 team they'd have to have a 38 game improvement over the previous year. I can't see them improving by that much as just improving by 20 games is a major accomplishment.

Football is probably the hardest sport to try to compare players to over different eras. How would you compare a great offensive lineman in the 50s to a great wide receiver in the 90s? Beyond Greg Maddux there isn't anyone out there for the Mets anyways and Maddux is just a temporary fix and the Mets need to think long term since they aren't going anywhere at the moment. Besides they got Rick Peterson now so the pitching is bound to be better this year. Since it hasn't been mentioned yet the Yankees signed Tyler Houston and at the moment he's their starting 3rd baseman but I seriously doubt they'll go all season with him. I had no idea Mora is already going to be 32 this season, so ya they overpaid for him as last year probably was a fluke. I always figured he was younger since hadn't been in the majors that long. Boston College is #13 in strength of schedule so that probably has something to do with it and they do have wins over two Top 25 RPI teams in Seton Hall and N.C. State. Pittsburgh has only the #76 strongest schedule and have seven wins against teams not even ranked in the Top 200 and only one win against a team in the Top 25, Alabama. I'm just posting them to bring some content to the thread and since the rankings to do play a part in the seedings of the NCAA Tournament. Edit 2: Pittsburgh has two top 25 wins as they beat Syracuse but their weak non-conference schedule hurts them.

What the Yankees can offer would be irrelevent if the A's and Chavez reach a contract extension this season. Although I think they would have to sign a new deal before the season starts as I don't expect negotiations to go into the season. Beane was definently higher on Chavez than Tejada and the A's have no one the minors who would be ready to step in at 3rd base in 2005 so the chances are better of keeping Chavez. But I don't get my hopes up for keeping any A's player anymore as it just makes it easier to see them go when they do leave.

Well I already got in one argument about strikeouts might as well get into another. In 2002 Hernandez had a very good year despite the strikeouts. He had an OPS of .834 (OPS+ of 121) and despite his 188 strikeouts he still had a solid .356 OBP. Remember Bobby Bonds holds the single season record and the year he did it he had an OPS of .897 (OPS+ of 135) and still hit over .300. Breaking the strikeout record is overrated as Bonds was a good player and for one season Jose Hernandez was a good player. Oh and to be a complete geek here is Rob Neyer on the stigma of the strikeout record in his book Rob Neyer's Big Book of Baseball Lineups: Now getting back to Hernandez other than 2002 his best OPS+ in a full season was only 100 so that would that would likely mean his 2002 year was a fluke. Last year his strikeouts did matter since when he wasn't striking out he wasn't getting on base either, unlike 2002 where he was all or nothing. Last year he was just nothing and nothing with a stomach turning .287 OBP.

Yes I lived there for eight months, as recently as last June. It was already topping 100 in late May and hitting 110 in June but maybe I just had bad timing.

Jose Hernandez is about the only free agent 3rd baseman still available...too bad he was just god awful last year. Yankees could take a chance on him and pray he puts up his 2002 numbers but that year definently looks like a fluke. If they get really desperate they could trade for Jeff Cirillo. All things considered they are going to probably just gonna have to go with a giant hole at 3rd for the first half of the season and then try to trade for one at the deadline when a decent one might be available off a team out of contention. Could also call up Mike Bordick and see if he doesn't want to retire and move Jeter to 3rd.
