  1. Yup, and that thread sucks too. Why can't this historical shit go into the classic folder? It just floods the WWE main page.... Yeah, I agree. Especially when cawthon does it like EVERYDAY. Well I've been doing this since April with the Raw and Smackdown Reviews and the Nitro and Thunder Reviews in General Wrestling. I'll be honest I post it in here since it will get more views and besides not all the results are "old school" if you will. No one is forcing you to read the topic. I just do them out of Boredom and to provide some general wrestling content.
  2. As has been shown in the NHL. Exactly what I was going to say. The only thing it does is emphasize regional rivalries by having teams play those in the their division more often that others. But it's pointless, because some divisions are bound to be weak. Can't wait to see some useless NBA team get that coveted third seed. *sigh* You already broke hockey, leave the NBA alone! Also in baseball too although not quite the extreme of hockey just yet. The hidden blessing of the '94 strike was that avoided the embarassment of the A.L. West "Champ" having a losing record.
  3. Four? I've stomached five! Well okay I as born in '78 and the Yankees won the series so not like I have any memory of them winning it. The Bucky Dent homerun happened the day after I was born. I'd take that as being born under a bad sign if I'd been a Red Sox fan.
  4. Let's see the company may have made a designer steroid that isn't currently being tested and Bonds homeruns suddenly increased and breaks the homerun record the year after he joins the company. Bonds also happens to be the only baseball player involved with the company. He might not be involved directly in the investigation but his ties to the company really put into question the sudden massive amount of body mass that he put on in recent years and his sudden increase in homeruns. I don't think anything will happen to Bonds in all of this but he better start a P.R. campaign after the World Series because the national media is going to jump all over this story.
  5. Ummm already posted. http://forums.thesmartmarks.com/index.php?...=ST&f=1&t=43144
  6. Whoops made a mistake on the national t.v. schedule as USC/Notre Dame has already started. Adding on...Purdue beats Wisconsin on a late field goal 26-23. Michigan State is up big late on Minnesota. Purdue and Michigan State are your Big Ten leaders, who would of thunk it? Georgia is being stunned by Vanderbilt at the half 2-0. Yup, 2-0. *insert the usual sports anchor baseball reference* Holy crap...USC 21, Notre Dame 14 after just one quarter. I was watching the end of the Purdue/Wisconsin game so missed it all.
  7. That's next week in the General Wrestling folder.
  8. Just to add to the story from earlier in the week SMU, Rice, and Tulsa have accepted invitations to join Conference USA: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1640564 Eh, not exactly Miami, Virginia Tech, Boston College but guess they had to do something. South Florida is now expected to join Louisville and Cincinnati in leaving CUSA for the Big East next month. One new rumor out there has Boise State joining the Mountain West which would probably signal the end of the WAC.
  9. If done right? HAHAHAHAHAHA So which guy will be named Big Pussy? You know it will happen with those WACKY~ WWE writers.

  11. Errrrrrrrr twice as much I'd say is a little much even though I'm on the side that its mainly the A's owner Steve Schott being unwilling to spend the money rather than the A's not having the money to spend. I'd say the A's could spend at least $20 million more than they do, payroll was around $50 million last year. Oh and someone mentioned Terrence Long, rumor is pitching coach Rick Peterson might be going to the Mets and the A's won't ask for compensation but rather that the Mets take Long and his contract off their hands.
  12. Well glad you both put Golden State and Sacramento in the same division because there has been a rumor they might be split up even though they are only about two hours apart. I think going to six divisions is unnecessary.
  13. The plot thickens...Bonds has been one of 40 athletes subpoenaed by the grand jury to testify in this case. From today's San Francisco Chronicle:
  14. Baltimore Dallas Minnesota St. Louis - LOCK Miami Atlanta Philadelphia Cleveland Tennessee N.Y. Jets Seattle Tampa Bay Buffalo Kansas City
  15. This is a few days old but figured I'd post it: One of the other clients of this company is Bill Romanowski.
  16. Considering Billy the Marlin doesn't work for Florida anymore. I would be pretty funny if the Yankees brought him up for Game 1 with full Yankee gear on. And then Billy the Marlin reveals his true identity: SWERVE~
  17. A's haven't been on channel 4 since '98 I think. They are on KICU which is a independent affiliate. Yes the A's t.v. and radio deals are complete shit. Its partly their own fault and partly due the Giants being owned by so many media outlets in the Bay Area as I pointed out in another post. See above. It should be noted that the Giants were on their way to becoming the Florida Marlins before there was the Florida Marlins back after the either '91 or '92 season but MLB bailed them out and got a local ownership group to buy the team. Something MLB didn't do for the A's back in 1999 due the Giants getting a new stadium and wanting to be the sole team in the Bay Area and Bud Selig complied because he's friends with Giants majority owner Peter Magowan. But that's a whole other tangent to go off on.
  18. Actually I couldn't agree on that. But the teams that you think are losing money typically aren't the teams that are losing money and just leave it at that. How about everyone agree on this? Bud Selig is an idiot.
  19. Two words for Tejada. Bobby Crosby. or put it this way: where is Giambi playing now? In all seriousness and its all hindsight too is that Giambi wasn't worth the money he signed for. $18 million a year is too much for a guy who will likely spend most of the rest of his career as a DH. those two homers were worth it tonight wasn't it? He hit two homeruns? Sorry didn't watch. Its still too much money for a DH. His numbers been down the last two years.
  20. Two words for Tejada. Bobby Crosby. or put it this way: where is Giambi playing now? In all seriousness and its all hindsight too is that Giambi wasn't worth the money he signed for. $18 million a year is too much for a guy who will likely spend most of the rest of his career as a DH.
  21. Two words for Tejada. Bobby Crosby. Eh Crosby could be hit or miss. The problem is they have no one to replace Chavez after next year and then it will be hard to keep cranking guys out like Harden to repalce the Big Three. But that all being said its because their owner Steve Schott is unwilling to spend the money not because of where the A's play. The A's make money every year which is a fine way to make a regular business but your gonna own a professional sports franchise you have to expect to lose some money to keep your team competitive.
  22. Damn I knew I shouldn't have posted because now I'll be in this topic all night. Anyways the neighborhood the Coliseum is in is just as bad as it was 30 years ago so I don't think that has anything to do with it and most people access the Coliseum by freeway so you there is no need to go through any bad part of Oakland to get to the game. The A's attendance has been up the last five years anyways so fans are showing up. The advantage that the Giants have on the A's is, forgetting Pac Bell/now SBC Park as the A's outdrew the Giants over the years while they played in Candlestick, is that the have a lot more exposure through the media due to the fact that the #1 newspaper in the Bay Area the San Francisco Chronicle owns part of the team, as does local channel KTVU (Fox Affiliate), and the sports talk radio station in the Bay Area KNBR also owns part of the team. The Giants ownership has made no secret that they want the A's out of Oakland and the Bay Area all together. That's the advantage the Yankees have over other teams is their t.v. and radio revenue is so much larger than any other team in baseball and that's why they can spend so much.
  23. Ugh...this topic isn't going to go anywhere but I'll just say this that there is no such thing as a small market. Well Green Bay is but the NFL is structured differently. Small market at the very least is an overused term. Just to use my A's as an example as most non-A's fans who don't follow them regularly would think of the A's as a small market team but forgetting that they play in a very large market in the San Francisco Bay Area, all be it a shared one. Also probably wouldn't know that their previous owner Walter Haas had no problem with spending money and the A's during the late and 80s and early 90s had very high payrolls. Probably do know that the current owner (Steve Schott) doesn't like spending money. The market the A's play in has had little effect on the money they have spent or not spent over the years but rather how much their owner is willing to spend and that is the case is most so called small markets.
  24. I don't know if anyone else cares but this conference swapping stuff is just fascinating to me. In a preemptive strike against the Big East taking Louisville and Cincinnati (along with DePaul and Marquette for basketball) next month since they need to rebuild their conference now, Conference USA is now going to invite Marshall and Central Florida from the MAC and SMU, Rice, and Tulsa from the WAC next week. http://www.sportsline.com/general/story/6723515 Good lord gonna need a program just to figure out who plays where.
  25. The only major trades that I ever remember happening during the season was Eric Dickerson to the Colts in '87 and the infamous Herschel Walker trade to the Vikings in '89 and those both came before the salary cap and free agency.
