He's with the Pirates organization now.

I think they can have him. He's bound to start regressing sooner than later. I hope they sign him to the four year deal he's asking for. Rumor has it they may actually go after Ben Sheets...if they do that and then trade for CC's buddy Mike Cameron, maybe we can just say: "Your 2009 New York Yankees...your 2008 Milwaukee Brewers!"

Well, sounds like Sabathia is a Yankee. I'm hearing it's actually 7 years, $160 million. If so, that is just crazy. It doesn't matter for the Yankees...even if he stinks for half of that length, it doesn't matter to them. Thanks for the memories CC, but I won't be cheering for you now that you're going to be wearing pin stripes. Hopefully Doug Melvin is moving to get some top quality pitcher for the Brewers...as of right now the Brewers rotation is going to be Gallardo/Parra/Suppan/McClung/Bush. Not exactly confidence inspiring.

I was just thinking that...I remember that Demolition/Brainbusters match being really good.

Not really. It's so incredibly bizarre...I can't believe it's actually from some movie.

    Fucking Wisconsin

Plus that city in the video isn't actually Milwaukee at all.

I still think Variteck will be back with Boston...he's probably just trying to get a two year deal out of them. They could pass him up, though...Boston has shown a willingness to let veterans go in the past. Ben Sheets declined arbitration with Milwaukee. I don't think he's going to get the big 3-4 year deal out there that he's hoping for, though.

What would you do with 100 Grand?

I never cared for basketball games (not really a basketball fan at all), but I loved NBA Jam. Played the heck out of the SNES version. Had the Game Boy version of NBA Jam TE...wasn't very good, but I still played it a lot.

One can't fault the Mets for their aggressive approach, as they clearly have the money to spend anyway. When you can be in the driver's seat, there's no reason to dick around waiting for guys to get back to you while they shop themselves to other teams. As for the daily Sabathia update: Supposedly the Brewers could be upping their initial offer to 6 years/110 million. I don't think that will get it done, but you can't say they aren't trying.

OK, that was pretty amusing, Czech.

2009 Baseball Hall of Fame Ballot

I hope as an Athletic. That's the team I always think of when I think of Rickey, personally. And I really hope the writers finally do the right thing and put Blyleven in. It was kind of amusing...yesterday on MLB on XM, they were talking with Vida Blue, and Bert's name came up. When the hosts were reading Blyleven's accomplishments to Vida, it sounded like he was about falling out of his chair, about how this guy still isn't in the Hall.

Actually a kind of interesting story (from the Chicago Tribune): "Milwaukee neighborhoods could print own money 2 neighborhoods consider printing own currency for exclusive use in local stores By Erika Slife | Tribune reporter December 3, 2008 They may be talking funny money, but it's not funny business. Residents from the Milwaukee neighborhoods of Riverwest and East Side are scheduled to meet Wednesday to discuss printing their own money. The idea is that the local cash could be used at neighborhood stores and businesses, thus encouraging local spending. The result, supporters hope, would be a bustling local economy, even as the rest of the nation deals with a recession. "You have all these people who have local currency, and they're going to spend it at local stores," said Sura Faraj, a community organizer who is helping spearhead the plan. "They can't spend it at the Wal-Mart or the Home Depot, but they can spend it at their local hardware store or their local grocery store." Incentives could be used to entice consumers into using the new money. For example, perhaps they could trade $100 U.S. for $110 local, essentially netting them a 10 percent discount at participating stores. It's not a new concept—experts estimate there are at least 2,000 local currencies all over the world—but it is a practice that tends to burgeon during economic downturns. During the Great Depression, scores of communities relied on their own currencies. And it's completely legal. As long as communities don't create coins, or print bills that resemble federal dollars, organizations are free to produce their own greenbacks—and they'd don't even have to be green. In Wisconsin, could that mean dough that looks like cheese?"

If CC doesn't want to play for the Yankees, there's no way he's going to sign with the Mets.

There could be a break in the CC Sabathia deadlock early next week...supposedly Doug Melvin (Brewers GM) will meet with CC's agent on Monday or Tuesday to get a reaction on their offer (which has been out there for almost a month now). Assuming they tell him something like "There's no realistic chance", the Brewer will quickly move on to other matters, and it may create an opening for a team like the Giants to make an offer. If San Fran makes an offer around what the Brewers are offering, you have to believe he takes it. Supposedly Brian Cashman may be talking to CC's camp before the end of this week as well...I still don't think he goes to New York, though.

Actually it turns out he admitted to using coke, so that's not in dispute. Also not in dispute is that the hockey mask look was pretty bad ass.

The Brewers sign former O's closer Jorge Julio for under a million, plus incentives. Not exciting, but they need to restock on bullpen arms.

    Planned champions

Yeah, it always seemed like the clique was willing to put each other over pretty frequently. Michaels and Nash would have been willing to put over Hall as the champion, I would think.

    Planned champions

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. There was never really a top heel champion for Razor to feud with for the title. Maybe if he had stayed with the WWF for another year or two, he could have won the belt.

I don't know if the Parker cocaine stuff has ever been proven. He claims he had leg injuries during that period. Wouldn't surprise me either way. Even with the drop off in the middle of his career, his numbers are still impressive.

    The 2008 MLB Offseason Thread

No one really wants to be a Yankee and deal with the media and ownership (unless they're the kind of guys that crave attention like A-Rod and Jeter). The huge money is the only plus. Rumor has it the Astros are saying that Carlos Lee is available. They are intent on cutting payroll, as the falling oil prices have impacted the Houston area quite a bit. He could help some teams, but he has a hugely bloated contract that will make him hard to move.

What did/do your parents think of wrestling?

My parents tolerated my love of wrestling. At least they never went off on how it was fake, but they would say "This is stupid, why are you watching this?" My sister would watch it with me, and liked guys like Hogan when she was little, though she "grew" out of of it eventually. It probably didn't help that I remember one of the first times I recall my parents seeing us watch wrestling was the episode of Superstars where Warrior was locked in a casket by Undertaker and Paul Bearer. They wouldn't ever buy me any of the figures and stuff...a friend of mine bought me a couple of the old WCW Galoob figures for my birthday one year, and my mom let me buy just _one_ other figure. My dad actually softened his view on it later...he never watches it, but sometimes talks about how his own dad would watch the old AWA and loved guys like The Crusher. He also mentioned later how he took my other grandfather to a local indy show one time (early '80s I believe), and how "you could tell how far the punches were missing."

    Let's Talk About: Rikishi

Maybe it would have been better if he had turned heel on his buddies in Too Cool, and then cut a promo how he was sick of being viewed as a joke, and hanging out with a couple whiggers, etc. Then they could put him over having him squash Scotty and Christopher in a blow off handicap match, and go from there, booking him as a bad ass mosnter heel.
