  1. The same could be said of your cell phone while you are at work, but i will be fucking damned if my job was to tell me that I couldn't bring a cell to work. I don't think you understand the difference between high school and a job, or the difference between children and adults. He's right, as far as teachers having cell phones goes. The teacher shouldn't be allowed to interrupt the class for their own personal issues if the student can't. That kind of goes without saying. Same goes for teachers checking their personal e-mail. Class time should be time devoted to helping students, not for personal matters. If they need to call their parents to check something, they can do it from the office. Who else could they possibly need to call during the school day? Everyone else they know should also be AT SCHOOL. Students are not entrepenuers. They are not doctors. They are not lawyers. There's simply no need for students to have cell phoes at school. We didn't even HAVE cell phones when I was in high school (this was the early 90s before they were widespread and affordable). We didn't have iPods either. Since there's nothing about either device that's necessary for school, I don't see why students today feel they are entitled to use those things at school. In addition to there not being any reason to let students use cell phones, here's some good reasons NOT to let kids have cell phones at school: -camera phones can be used to cheat -text messaging could be used to cheat or harrass other students -phones ringing is a disruption to class (despite in-class bans, it still happens) -phones kept in lockers are targets for theft -there's no way you can use a phone in between classes anyways, since most hallways are too loud during passing periods -cell phones could be used for drug deals (yes, I know...high school kids would never buy or sell drugs, but I wanted to cover all the options here)
  2. Either the original Commander Steel, or his grandson (who was a member of the League during the "Justice League Detroit" era).
  3. That cover might be a red herring.

  5. Oh not this argument again. Of course there should be certain areas that are the responsibility of the public. No reasonable man is advocating private roads. But could it really hurt to scale back the role of government? The point was that there's all kinds of things the government helps us with that we don't think about. Thus, for someone to say "If you want to help people, do it yourself. Dont force me to give up my own cash to finance it" (which you conveniently omitted from your quote of my response) overlooks things like state-funded universities, the FDA, student loans (which govt subsidizes the interest rates for), unemployment benefits for the temporarily unemployed, etc. Government programs work best when programs help people help themselves, but even that takes money.
  6. I still say there's no reason for kids to have cell phones at school. If there's an emergency, their parents can call the school and have the kid sent down to the office.
  7. While both men were avid automobile enthusiasts, I think its safe to say McQueen was probably the more skilled driver of the two.
  8. There were some that I liked, of course, but for the most part I just wanted them to get on with the next installment of the mythology stories. The episode "Jose Chung's From Outer Space" was an exception, of course. "That was Detective Manners. He said they just found your bleepin' UFO."
  9. Here's the plot for "Superman: Brainiac Attacks" from amazon.com (on sale June 20th) Sounds like a nice way to wrap a few few dangling plot thread left over from Justice League. And Tim Daly's doing the voice of Superman for this.
  10. There isn't a single reason a kid needs to have a cell phone at school. Not one.
  11. Buchanan was definitely the worst. Harding was merely the worst of the 20th century. Compared to many of the horrible presidents of the 19th century, he was average. 19th century is basically: Lincoln, Jackson, Jefferson, Polk, and a bunch of 3rd stringers. Believe it or not, the 20th century produced some of the best leaders we ever had.
  12. If this movie uses one second of the 90s cartoon for inspiration, I'll fucking puke.
  13. Or rather potentially how good they can be. Moore gave most of those villains on that story a mean streak, an edge so to speak that they lacked in all their previous showings. I think it was Lois or Supes himself that said that before that fateful day all of them were nothing more than nuisances. That's exactly what most of Superman's rouge gallery really are. There's no reason they couldn't be that way in a movie.
  14. That is how you end a series.
  15. Have I ever told the story about how I got fired from Hy-Vee for telling off the welfare mom?
  16. You majored in music AND political science? Kanye West must REALLY piss you off.
  17. ^We all did.^ You should have gotten your minor in PE, since all schools really want history teachers for is to coach.
  18. My, what a disturbing thread this has turned into...
  19. One only needs to read the classic Alan Moore tale "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow" to see how good Superman's rogue's gallery really is.
  20. Do you mean actors or viewers? I have the same problem with this show that I had with X-Files. Unless its an episode about the series' overall mythology, I have a hard time caring about anything that happens.
  21. That's why we also push for international anti-pollution treaties. Or, at least, we used to. So...the government shouldn't help homeless people because it might lead down the slippery slope of them one day getting a house with a garage? Alrighty then... How about we just make sure that every has basic shelter, and cross the bridge of "what next" when we actually get there? Let me debunk your "the private sector can do it better" argument right here. The government does a few things to help homeless people. Charities do the rest. So, if charities and government COMBINED haven't solved the homeless problem, then what makes you think private charity BY ITSELF could help all of the homeless people? You say that as if you, yourself, have never personally benefitted from government spending or a government program.
  22. Stuff like "52" is the reason some comic book shops do hold lists.
  23. U.S. historians pick top 10 presidential errors. For the record, Warren Harding is NOT mentioned.
  24. I was told repeatedly by every video retail person I asked that these did not exist. Fuck you, Suncoast and Best Buy clerks of America, you lazy fucking bastard sons of bitches. Fuck you in your stupid asses and damn you to hell.
