  1. My daughter, Sydney Paige, was born Wednesday afternoon. She weighed 5 pounds and 13 ounces. My entire view of the world seems to be shifting now, and its really sinking in how irrelevant most of the things I used to get pissed off about are. Its hard to even care about the stupid shit I used to worry about when you're responsible for another human being's entire life. Hopefully I'll be a lot more patient with her than I am with you all.
  2. Wow. As an Echo driver, I'm feeling ripped-off. These are not only cheaper, but better looking. Echos were great cars, but ugly as sin. (Probably the reason they never caught on.)
  3. Yes, Voltron, Power Rangers, etc. were all influenced by Gatchaman. But we're talking about a few seconds of the OPENING CREDITS, not the impact of the show itself.
  4. In the Oliver Stone movie, I'm we'll see a scene of George W and Usama sitting in the same room together, eating popcorn, and watching the madness unfold on TV to their delight. With cameos by Fidel Castro and the CIA.
  5. Sad. And man, do I ever wish I had a copy of the chicken dance gif.
  6. I enjoy Gatchaman as much as the next nerd, but the premise of this thread is taking things a little too far. Your obsessing over a few seconds of an obscure cartoon opening having an impact on other even more obscure cartoon openings. If anything, I'd argue that ALL of these examples rip-off the types of manuevers that actual sky-divers do at shows.
  7. Not really, it's quite standard for schools to require them (I was taking Physics my frosh year and pre-calc my sophomore year). Again: Required where? I've worked for enough school districts to know that REQUIRING Physics and Pre-Calculus is NOT typical. Most schools give you a choice of a biological science, then a physical science, and a third year of science of your own choosing. For math, its a required 3 years which generally means Algebra, Geomeotry, and Alg2/Trig (in that order).
  8. Some of work and go to grad school at the same time, you know.
  9. Maybe he knows he's fucked, and is just trying to make himself sound more nefarious than he really is. It did sound pretty over-the-top.
  10. Funny cuz its true.

  12. Fucking overkill is what it is.
  13. Mandatory? Where the fuck do you go to school? NASA?
  14. That's a pretty big "unless". That point of yours was a really great case for legal immigration. I don't see the good that encouraging companies to ignore those regulations does for legal citizens. If you come to America to work legally, you should be entitled to the same protections as anyone. Illegal immigrants may be better off than they were in their native country, but they are still far worse off than the minimum standards we've set for our country. Also, don't forget, there's the issue of national security. Given how poor border security is, it wouldn't be difficult for a large number of terrorist operatives to sneak into our country.
  15. I never thought much of the 90s cartoon since I'd already read most of the actual X-Men comic book issues they were based on (and damn it if their version of Dark Phoenix Saga wasn't just a piss-pour imitation). I could imagine they'd seem 10x better than anything else on TV at the time to someone unfamiliar with the original stories, though.
  16. Thanks for posting that....again.
  17. Whether you're a brother Or whether you're a mother, You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive. Feel the city breakin' And ev'rybody shakin' And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive. Ah, ha, ha, ha, Stayin' alive. Stayin' alive. Ah, ha, ha, ha, Stayin' alive.
  18. http://forums.thesmartmarks.com/index.php?...1&st=&p=entry Probably the only thread about Islam that didn't ever turn into a gigantic flame war between Mike/Marney and someone else.
  19. Given that things like minimum wage and health protections are a relatively new innovation, there isn't a historical instance where a completely fair comparison can be made. And I don't have a problem with legal immigration, because there's a definite benefit there. I'd love to know how illegal immigrant are forced to pay anything other than sales taxes. Just to clarify: I DON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH LEGAL IMMIGRATION.

  21. Dr. Octopus looks like he's been hitting the juice in this MacFarlane picture. I rest my case.
  22. First of all, there simply are not enough of these "high-paying jobs" to go around. And the jobs that ARE available to everyone do not pay enough to live on. Do you know what would happen if everyone in America went to college? You'd have the world's most educated unemployment line. Second, these "shitty" jobs wouldn't seem so shitty if people were actually paid a decent wage to do them. But, as long as you have employers that can skirt the law with the full blessing of their friends in the government, that will never happen. Market forces within the US have determined that the pay for these jobs needs to go up, but employers simply hire people who do not need to make as much for their family to survive because they are sending their money outside of the country where the standard of living is much lower. We've basically become an ATM machine for Mexico at this point. Third, as long as we're going all the way back to the Industrial Revolution, let's look at how bad things were for working people before the Progressive movement. A hundred years ago, government action brought health, safety, and pay standards to American industry. But even the most basic of these protections are being ignored as long as US employers are allowed to use undocumented workers. And fourth, if free trade was working the way it was supposed to, we wouldn't have all these people coming over from Mexico in the first place.
  23. I guess we'll find out next January.
  24. I've been sick of Larry the Cable Guy since I first heard of him six years ago, but somehow I was arm-twisted into to watching the "Blue Collar Comedy Tour" DVD by my sister-in-law. I have to admit that all this Ron White praise is well deserved, as he really is the most talented one of the four. The said article: http://www.bobanddavid.com/david.asp?artID=183
