    Abyss to WWE?!

    Looks like WWE got swerved.

    Smackdown spoilers for 1/13/05

WHY WHY WHY?! The worst possible choice out of the four teams (aka the most unover and untalented team in the match) walks out with the belts? I think they will do anything to get the Bashams over, no matter what the cost. If they wanted to get them over, I'd suggest letting them talk and encouraging them not to work the "new WWE style" and wrestle how they did in OVW. They're certainly a much better team than Reigns and Jindrak. The Revolution, aka the Bashams as OVW Main Eventers

    Chris Masters

Masters is pretty green at this point... he is passable talking at this point but only that. He's also not really tall, only about 6'4"ish. He's okay in a tag team but he's not ready to be a singles guy. OVW's tag team scene is way better that WWE's at this point (and probably TNA's), but they never have called anyone up as a team from there except the Bashams who were 100s of times better in OVW where they were allowed to wrestle and talk. Cornette's frankly quite brilliant at putting the right two guys together who compliment each other and mask each other's weaknesses in a tag team.
  4. Looks like Chris Masters is getting called up way too early... he's pretty terrible at this point. Obviously has potential in Vince's eyes since he's a roider.

    A Few Opinions Please

Monty Brown has a lot of potential but he's still green. Good charisma though and is improving to where he can get carried to good matches. Garza's pretty good, but not great. He's got some charisma. I agree on people saying Petey Williams reminds them of Jamie Noble. Of course, he's got a sick finisher and a great manager so it helps him a ton. He's a little overrated but is a good wrestler. Haven't seen DDP wrestle. Sabu had improved before he got hurt and wasn't blowing nearly as many spots (more like 95/96 Sabu). He's surely not going to be wrestling ever again.

    Paul Heyman Released

Sounds just like rumor-mongering. If Heyman was really a free agent you can bet every site would have the info. I also don't see anything on 1wrestling about it now. Vince isn't stupid enough to release Heyman... especially after they just put a DVD out putting ECW over huge. There's a lot more indy talent out there these days and WWE can't afford to sign up everyone. Many WWE wrestlers are loyal to him and he could get them to jump ship. All Heyman needs is a business partner with some business sense and creative control. I'd think the natural place for him would be to work in Philly for a while until he saw how the TNA situation worked out.

    What keeps you tuning in?

Raw's pretty much force of habit, although it's entertaining usually and there's usually a good TV match every week. Smackdown is pretty bad, although I should have checked out the RVD/Rey v.s. Eddy/Booker match this week. I have no desire to watch JBL as champ and Cena is pretty stale too. I have no desire to watch UT and Heidenreich. I've fallen asleep a few times recently during this show and I've skipped the past 2-3 weeks. They're in danger of losing me from Smackdown, and this is someone who'd watch all their non-clip shows even before the boom period. I quit watching Heat and Velocity a long time ago. I've got OVW to get my wrestling fix here at least.

    SmackDown! Spoilers

The guy who lost to Orlando Jordan sounds like "Mac Johnson", who actually is from Lafayette (and is billed as being from there in OVW). He's an OVW guy (not sure if he has a deal or not) who's in a great tag team with Seth Skyfire (who had a long reign as OVW tag champs). I really like him, although he's still a little green.

    Torch article in 2001

While there's probably some grains of truth to this, Heyman never sent "hundreds of e-mails" or voted thousands of times on internet polls. I don't doubt he's sent e-mails to sites under fake names, and he certainly is "friends" with Scherer. What Keller says is mostly BS (this the guy who's said OVW is closing several times because he hates Cornette). He also doesn't like Heyman.

    Did I miss something?

It's pretty easy to get the whole division over... just have someone pull an RVD with the CW Title and hold it for a long period of time and then have a match go to a draw with the World Champ. That's probably what would happen if Heyman had full control over the product.
  11. In the same vein, Hogan's loss the Warrior saw Hogan get over more than Warrior, who won the match. Instead of the focus being on Warrior pinning Hogan to win the WWF Title, all the attention was on Hogan being a gracious loser (and his actions after the match weren't entirely scripted, if you know what I mean), and Hogan gained more with the loss and how he handled it, leaving Warrior's big moment in the shadows. The Hogan revival wasn't due to him losing, it was the crowd in Montreal "going banana" for him. Shortly thereafter, Hogan came out with the Red/Yellow & Hollywood hybrid outfit which allowed him to do all his poses and "outcool" HHH and squash his face push in one of the most brilliant political moves I've ever seen. Only one that outdoes that is Jericho coming out in Canada and playing face to kill the Nash/HHH feud

What's the worst WCW Nitro Ever?

I'd say NWO Nitro or Bischoff's Talk Show have to be the worst. NWO Nitro was the show in which the WWF gained a lot of ground in the ratings.
  13. They'd have Trips off the cycle filming the Prince Adam scenes, then reshoot in a couple months after some heavy roiding. Really interesting casting decision because I think both of them could pull it off. They're a little old for the part (especially HHH), but they could pull off both characters. Adam is basically a whiney cowardly heel and He-Man is a badass face. It's pretty basic wrestling-type stuff here.

    Most Shameless Shilling in Wrestling

#1 Chucky comes out and Rick Steiner and the announcers act like he's real #2 XFL #3 Karate Fighters Tournament #4 SUUUUURGE #5 Robin Hood Premiere on TNT
  15. The real problem is a lack of TV clearance. It's very hard for any promotion to build up stars without it at this point. Eventually promotions will be able to use the Internet to stream their TV shows effectively though.
  16. Ultimately, people are going to want to see a ****+ match with two guys over a crappy match with the same two guys. There's no question casual fans appreciate good wrestling matches.

    IWAMid-South

IWA:MS's promotion has been terrible across the board. You won't know they have a show in town unless you read the Internet. Also, attendance around this time of the year usually takes a hit because there are high school basketball games in Indiana that draw several thousand people on the weekends.

    OVW

Probably the best OVW match from this year was the four corners elimination match with: Nova/Idol/Danny Inferno (Jersey Shore Crew) v.s. Seth Skyfire/Mac Johnson v.s. Cage/Tank Toland v.s. Chris Masters/Brent Albright. Just a fantastic tag match that goes a good half hour. IMHO, this smokes any tag match WWE has done this year. An insane brawl between the Jersey Shore Crew and the Disciples of Synn (Mordecai/Tomko) was also really good. The rest of the TV show is super hot (with Mark Magnus's redebut as Muhammed Hassan and a Nitro v.s. Donne match, I think). Can't give you a date, I know they replayed the show in November over Thanksgiving so if you get the Nov. tape you'll get it. Also, the Dinsmore/Jeter title feud is definitely worth checking out too. Think that's from late 2003/early 2004. There's a brutal match where Dinsmore just kills Jeter with a bunch of German suplexes (which are actually sold as instant death) which led to Dinsmore turning heel. Cage is definitely a proper main eventer in OVW now... he's bulked up a bit. Of course, the tag guys have been booked as the main eventers (plus Morgan and Jeter), since the OVW Originals (Dinsmore, Conway, Bashams) left for WWE. Lots of great stuff... I wish Cornette could get creative control in WWE or TNA without anyone to meddle with him because he's been on a real hot streak the past three years or so.
  19. You have to remember Foley is friends with Meltzer too, so he may have told Meltzer to run a fake story about it to build up the Flair/Foley feud.

What's with All the New Divas?

Dunno what the heck Melina (OVW developmental talent) was doing last night, but she generally looks like this: Either it was a terrible outfit, she had too much for turkey dinner, or she's pregnant. She can wrestle a bit too, unlike the rest of the people they ripped from the Diva Search.
  22. - HHH gets gained up on and thrown out at the beginning - Flair cheats to win the Battle Royal (with HHH screwing Benoit, Jericho, or Orton out of the title) - Next week, at Raw in Charlotte, Flair lies down for HHH (or they have a match and HHH wins the title back). No faces have to look like idiots, HHH doesn't have to job and gets to do something to get himself over, the faces get screwed (and keep their heat for a feud/title win down the line), crowd is happy because Flair is really popular and they feel like they saw something special, Flair and HHH both get more title reigns to pad their stats.

    Velocity

Nice to see Danny Basham get his old OVW finisher back now that A-Train's gone. He was doing it in OVW way before A-Train did. It's a spinning Baldo Bomb that he calls "Brain Damage". Of course, I doubt WWE ever lets Doug do his pedigree variation or his Benoitesque diving headbutt.

WWE News and Notes from 11/29 Observer

I think an ECW reunion show (on PPV and/or DVD), with the ex-ECW guys from WWE (plus Foley) and the non-TNA indy guys (Funk, Sandman, etc) would be the best way to go as far as making money off ECW. Wouldn't mind seeing some ROH guys on it either (i.e., the people ECW would have booked had they stayed in business). The big question is whether it should be at Viking Hall or not.

    Thanksgiving Smackdown spoilers

Chris Masters = roided up OVW hoss (Luger-esque roided). The masked men were the Bashams. Hopefully they get a chance to show what they can do this time (Doug Basham's just as good as "Eugene"). They can both cut good promos too.
