Nein. Don't confuse Schilt's later successes in K-1 with his MMA striking abilities. Someone as relentless and reasonably big like Yvel could've given him hell at any point of his MMA career, though would would easily be KO'ed by the lanky fuck in his current K-1 campaign. Well if you're judging that by their mma fight, Schilt wasn't allowed to punch to the head. Yes, they were allowed to punch to the head in that fight. You might be thinking of Pancrase, in which Schilt had many fights. I don't think you can base Schilt's standup on just his fight against Yvel. After all, that's the only fight that Schilt has ever lost the standup in. Yvel is one of those fighters that can be a bad matchup for guys like Schilt because of his aggression and wildness; see: Rampage vs. Cyril Abidi. No, I said Schilt couldn't punch to the head. He wasn't wearing gloves. Gilbert was. I'll go edit my post.

Well shit. I went 3-6 in predictions but got the "important" one correct. I didn't actually think Sylvia would win though. I was just hoping he would win so the UFC HW division could drop even lower.
-
Monson's fight is the only fight where I purposely didn't pick the underdog because seeing Cruz win would sicken me. Seeing Arlovski lose would actually make me happy but then a second later I would realize that it meant Sylvia won. Either way I'm screwed so I just picked Sylvia due to this year being about upsets.
-
Damn I went 1-3 on the undercard. Picking the underdogs was pretty stupid, though I don't remember who the underdog was in Lambert vs Martin. That one I just picked who I thought was the favorite. I hope there's an upset on the main card today, just not in the Monson vs Pe De Pano fight.

Rampage Jackson Vs. Chuck Liddell....
AmericanDragon replied to Lt. Al Giardello's topic in Mixed Martial Arts
Well first of all I'm just going to say that Randy sucks and that's not just because he lost against Chuck twice. I could never understand the hype. He's a boring lay and pray fighter with weak offense and even weaker submission defense. Sure he's a good sportsman and beat Chuck and Tito at 40+ years old, but he matches up well against them. I was never impressed with Randy in the first place so that's why I see things this way. Rampage's fights against Silva were also competitive fights but everyone just remembers the brutal endings. edit: Sakuraba knocked out Yoon as much as Shogun knocked out Rampage. Oh and if you don't get it, then I guess you're one of the many who think Shogun knocked out Rampage when it's pretty clear he just sat in the corner and gave up. Yoon also got hit and just turtled up against Sakuraba. He probably froze up mentally. In his fight against Rampage, he took multiple punches and knees to the head and body and barely even flinched. Chuck, who has one of the best chins at 205, was back pedalling almost every time Rampage hit him in the standup. So I would just say that Yoon has a pretty damn strong chin for a 185lber. Also, Rampage broke his ribs in the first minute of a nearly 5 minute fight against Shogun. It's not an excuse because Shogun did cause the break, but if you think Rampage had poor showing against him then you're a fucking idiot. I'm tired of people bringing up that fight. What if Shogun continued for 4 more minutes against Coleman after his elbow was broken? I would really like to see how "good" a one armed Shogun would have looked against Coleman. I know you didn't say it but Rampage wasn't "knocked out" by Arona by the upkicks. I don't know how an unconscious person can be talking to the referee while "unconscious." But I do agree that Arona was getting the better of him, but only because of the low kicks. And saying that Couture is a better Rampage is just completely ridiculous. Randy is one of the most overrated fighters ever. Rampage has better offense and defense in all areas except for maybe takedowns but he's never had trouble taking down his opponents yet except for Randleman. -
Rampage Jackson Vs. Chuck Liddell....

Chuck's opponents after their fight: Tito White Horn Randy x2 Rampage's opponents after their fight: Silva x2 (L) Minowa Arona Ninja Shogun (L) Yokoi Yoon Rampage fought better opponents so we actually know where he stands. I'm going to say that Rampage will dominate Chuck, even more than last time. Most people would say they would be even and that Chuck has improved, but I don't see it at all. Fuck "creating angles, better footwork, more accurate punching." I don't see any of that in Chuck's recent fights. In my opinion, Chuck hasn't improved at all except in his thumbs. -
Damnit I'm still not sure who to pick for Diaz vs Sherk. I'm pretty sure my other predictions are correct though. Yes, Sylvia will beat Arlovski.

Well I would agree with you but after seeing how easy it was for Hoger to just keep his guard as tight as possible to force a standup without any consequences, I'm pretty sure Silva could do the same. edit: Is an upkick from the guard to an opponent's head considered kicking a downed opponent? Franklin > Rashad. Common. Also, an upkick to an opponent's head is illegal if they are either on both knees, 3 points, etc. In other words, pretty much the same as if the kicker was standing above them throwing soccer kicks. Ricardo Almeida was DQ'ed for doing the same thing in the UFC against Matt Lindland. I still don't think Franklin can damage Silva on the ground. All Silva has to do is get a body triangle (easily done for him) and stall to get a forced standup.

The Chonan and Takase subs kind of came out of nowhere. Well ok, the triangle Takase got him in was just a normal triangle that he rolled into but all I've seen from Franklin is the ability to do an armbar. I'm pretty sure Franklin wouldn't be able to submit Silva. Silva sucks balls on the ground, and has throughout his career. Azaredo, Sakurai, Kato, Newton, Takase, & Chonan all gave him problems there. The last competent ground fighter that Anderson beat was Jeremy Horn, who managed to injure himself shooting a takedown. For as good a boxer and kickboxer that he is, Anderson's ability on the ground seems inversely proportional. Outside of him landing a clean right straight as Rich comes in, Anderson gets controlled for a couple of rounds until Rich mounts, and Anderson either gives up an arm or his back. I don't remember Sakurai dominating him on the ground. In fact I remember it being a completely dominant victory for Silva, both on the ground and standing. And I don't remember Chonan giving him trouble on the ground either. It's obvious that his weakness is his ground game though, but I really don't think Franklin can submit him or even do enough damage to him on the ground. If he's on his back, he could always stall and get stood back up for more chances on the feet. UFC doesn't do anything about that so there wouldn't be any consequences. He's my favorite middleweight fighter but I don't think he's the best. I do think he's the one to beat Franklin though.

I can't see Franklin submitting Anderson since his subs are pretty basic. I also don't see him stopping him with gnp because Anderson is pretty durable and rarely seems hurt or even tired after fights. The only way I can see Franklin winning is by decision from laying on Silva the entire time. That's why if Anderson can take Lindland out, there's really nothing Franklin can do against him.

Anderson Silva I'm pretty sure Silva could beat Franklin right now and if he gets his match with Lindland soon and beats him decisively, he'll definitely beat Franklin.

I'm changing a pick after seeing Sato vs Zambidis. It's a completely different sport but if you saw the fight then you can probably guess why I'm changing it to Diaz over Sherk. Tim Sylvia vs Andrei Arlovski Tito Ortiz vs Forrest Griffin Nick Diaz vs Sean Sherk Karo Parysian vs Nick Thompson Evan Tanner vs Justin Levens Jeff Monson vs Marcio Cruz Terry Martin vs Jason Lambert Dave Terrell vs Scott Smith Derrick Noble vs Thiago Alves

This year everyone will fall. Well except for Fedor.

Let's be fair, 4 guys standing out in one episode is pretty damn good, when they also are getting over Tito and Ken and their rivalry. It would be TNA-like to try and get every one of the 16 guys over, which is to say, damn need impossible to do successfully. The objective wasn't to make everyone immediately recognizable and a star in the first show, which is a good thing. It was to get over the Tito/Ken rivalry, get over the two as individual and different coaches, to get over Dana, to get across the rules, to put on a fight and get over the two guys fighting, and to put the spotlight on a few guys. Go back to season one and Bonnar, Forrest, and Diego weren't exactly stars after the first episode. I think Diego became a star when he thought aliens were trying to get him in his drunken stupor.
