  1. I would really prefer that this not happen.
  2. Unfortunately, from a look at his previous posts, it appears not.
  3. I was let go from my first job out of university. I was talked into signing a six-month contract instead of one for a full year by my boss, who was having budget issues and promised he'd find away around them (he was a big used-car salesman type). A week before the six months was up, he called me into his office and told me there was no more money and couldn't re-sign me. I had just moved into a new apartment two months prior. I went back to work for him two years later, and when I left to go to another division after two years he never talked to me again. Yeah, well, fuck you too.
  4. I can't tell you how happy I am for you.
  5. Yeah, thanks for bringing that up.
  6. I remember a time not long ago when no grocery store allowed you to pay by credit card. Weird.
  7. Mussina should get there if he stays around four another 4-5 years. That's looking less and less likely with every start, though. I doubt Oswalt will make it. Same with Santana. Neither of them has enough years left (Oswalt is 29 with 108 wins, Santana 28 with 89 wins). They'd both need to go for another 12-15 years (which is more possible now than in years past, I'll admit). I'd rate Santana somewhat more likely because he's a lefty. It's harder to do nowadays because pitchers are becoming full-time starters later and later. Clemens and Maddux were 21 when they became full-time starters, and Glavine was 22. Oswalt's first full year as a starter came when he was 24. Santana was 25 in his first full year. Throw in injuries and poor teams, and you can see how it's so difficult. Look at Randy Johnson -- he's not going to make it, and he pitched until he was 43. He only had three injury-shortened seasons, but he wasn't a full-time starter until he was 25.
  8. Yeah, heaven forbid another team take advantage of the rules.
  9. Jeez, the Yankees have now hit 13 home runs in two nights against the White Sox. Sick stuff. Al, do you know what the record is for home runs by a team in consecutive games? I know the Blue Jays hit 12 in two games against the Orioles back in 1987, and I can't imagine it would be much more than that, if that isn't in fact the record. EDIT: Never mind, the record is 14. Thanks, Retrosheet!
  10. Jerry Remy announced that he was giving away free T-shirts on his website. I went to the website, and it looks like it's crashed. People like the free stuff.
  11. The Jays' announcers were making a big deal Sunday about how the Jays could get back on a run with the Tampa Bay series, since they'd be missing the Rays' best two starters. So what do they do? They go ahead and lose 2 out of 3, scoring only eight runs in the process. This team frustrates the hell out of me.
  12. I really don't think it's close. Up To Here may be more radio-friendly, so you hear the songs more often, but the band hit its peak with Fully Completely and Day For Night. In fact, looking at it again, I'd probably put Phantom Power ahead of Up To Here, too.
  13. I also completely suck at anything that involves drawing. For some reason, I've never been able to skate, either. Not on rollerblades, not on ice skates.
  14. The one outside Union Station is incredible. I always stop there whenever I'm in town, since I always stay at the Royal York and he's right across the street.
  15. Craig Leipold signed a letter of intent with a group from Nashville to sell the Preds. He'll be getting $40m less than what Balsillie offered. He sure is one sharp businessman. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2957518

  17. I can't be sure, but it was probably this, from the first-ever SmackDown thread:
  18. Who's the guy in the suit in the middle (in front of Jeter)?
  19. All I can think of at this point is the Jerry Seinfeld joke about rooting for laundry.
  20. Meet the Yankees' next big offseason acquisition, Mr. Johan Santana: http://www.startribune.com/179/story/1336318.html Cashman has to be drooling over this article, especially since he didn't give up any potential trade bait at the deadline.
  21. August 2-5 - WGC-Bridgestone Invitational - Firestone CC (South Course), Akron, OH (Tiger Woods) August 2-5 - Reno-Tahoe Open - Montreux G&CC, Reno, NV (Will Mackenzie) August 9-12 - PGA Championship - Southern Hills CC, Tulsa, OK (Tiger Woods) August 16-19 - Wyndham Championship - Forest Oaks CC, Greensboro, NC (Davis Love III) August 23-26 - The Barclays - Westchester CC, Rye, NY (Vijay Singh) August 31-September 3 - Deutsche Bank Championship - TPC Boston, Norton, MA (Tiger Woods) The last two, of course, as everyone who has watched any Tour events lately knows (because the Tour has beaten it into their heads), are the first two FedEx Cup playoff tournaments. I'm interested in this year's PGA Championship just because I'm pretty sure Tiger's not going to win, and the tournament will be pretty wide open. I wouldn't be surprised to see another first-time major winner step up. This is shaping up to be another 2003 with four first-time winners. The Bridgestone is Tiger's personal ATM whenever they have it at Firestone, so I'm not expecting much intrigue there this week.
  22. The worst part was, I couldn't have lost that badly to any other team. That was the sickest pitching week I've ever seen.
  23. Superstars, February '86. First thing I remember was a Gene Okerlund Update recapping Bundy breaking Hogan's ribs with the avalanche on SNME.
  24. Based on everything I've read, that was the plan the whole time. Whether or not the rumours of Austin being booked to win the title at Final Four and the finish being changed on the fly due to his injury during the match are true, whoever was winning the title was scheduled to drop it to Sid the next night to further the Bret/Austin issue and set up Sid/Taker for the strap at WM XIII.
  25. No. Bergman's another one that people had last year but not this year.
