The first thing that stood out to me was the almost exact same family makeup, with the out-of-it Dad, two teen kids and alien taking the place of Brian (the goldfish, so far, seems useless IMO and I think the show could do without it). The situation with school also reminded me of Peter getting involved with Meg and Chris's school in his own wacky ways. You could try to chalk it up to "a series of mere coincidences", but considering the source, it's hard to discount them at the same time. EDIT: Maniac also made some good points

The big difference though was at least Groening aimed for something totally different with Futurama. This seems to be Seth carbon copying FG. Like someone else said, I think the copying came from the fact that Seth intended for this to be FG2 before Fox actually decided to resurrect FG

Worst #1: 1997. Green Bay winning. Nuff said. Doubly bad because after Howard's last big return, my friend (a Pats fan, no less) and I said "fuck this" and went outside to play catch and hoops instead. In 40 degree weather. I came down with a case of pneumonia that took me out of school for a month. Worst #2: 1999. The "Minnesota should have been here" bowl for me, I quit watching after halftime. Only memorable moment was a commercial for The Mummy overrunning into the game. Best #1: 1998. Denver denying Green Bay a second in a row. This was fun because I was living at a Kansas State dorm in a hallway filled with Chiefs fans rooting for Green Bay (being very pissed that their big division rival knocked them out of the playoffs two weeks prior) and I was the only one rooting for Denver. Fun times. Best #2: 2002. Pats beating the Rams. Having two of my best friends being Pats fans, and having really disliked the Rams in their ascendence over the previous couple of years, this one was quite good for me.
