The Legwand trade reminded me of one from an NHL game a few years ago. Apparently, the programmers must have REALLY hated the Blues in the game because you always count on the Blues to make a stupid trade in the game. I was playing as the Predators once and I see this trade offer window pop up. "The Blues would like to trade you Pavol Demitra, Barrett Jackman, & Jamal Mayers for Scott Walker." Now, Walker was having a great season, but he was expendable to me. He was aging and not that fantastic overall, and I would gladly take a first liner, defenseman of the future, and a decent 3rd/4th liner for him. Of course, I took the trade. As fate would have it, I checked on the Blues about a month later to see how my former player was doing. I found out that the Blues basically gutted their entire team for a bunch of not so good players. They even traded Walker off to Tampa Bay for two players who had zero chance of ever achieving anything near stardom. Meanwhile, Demitra was a dominant first liner on my team for a few years and Jackman was a top pairing defenseman after about a year. The Blues sucked, naturally. In Madden 2005, that player personality addition led to some fun trades for me. My favorite was when LaBrandon Toefield was mad because he was my backup RB and wanted to start somewhere. This puzzled me, seeing as I was the Super Bowl champion and he was backing up Fred Taylor, who was injury prone and had one year left in him. Anyway, I decided to check the market for him. I immediately discovered that he wasn't good enough to start on any other team in the NFL. After spending a minute damning the stupidity of this new Madden feature, I decided to trade him to the worst team in the league for a TE and a 4th round pick. The trade worked out fine for me. The Tight End became a three time pro bowler for my team in the five years he was on it, and the 4th rounder was a serviceable LB, but that's not important. You see, after Toefield's contract ran out, he signed with Oakland to be the number three running back there. I couldn't figure out the logic of this one at all. He wanted to be leave my team because he's too good to be a backup on a Super Bowl team, and then signs to be the number 3 RB on some shitty Raiders team. It made no sense whatsoever. I thought he wanted to start somewhere. Of course, he did nothing for the Raiders and was cut after one year. One of my recent favorites happened in NBA 2K6. For some odd reason, the computer likes recent draftees about as much as the Phoenix Suns do in real life. They are willing to pay me to take them off their hands. I decided to make a trade with the Pistons for their recent first round pick, a decent enough Lithuanian SF. I trade a backup PG for him and the Pistons first round pick next year. I thought nothing of it at the time. The Pistons were a good team, so I thought it was going to be a pick in the low 20s, which was more than enough for my trouble. I never thought that the Pistons would suck that year, but they did. They were so bad that they had the second worst record in the league. This meant that the trade ended up with me trading a backup PG(75 overall) for a decent shooting SF and the fifth overall pick in the draft(who ended up as a franchise Center for my team.) I don't think I'll ever top that one.

I didn't even realize Bergman was still alive until a few days ago(apparently, he and I shared the same birthday.) Ah well.

I would have to agree. 8 seems like a little much, but 5 or 6 would mean a round or two less of "OMG! THIS DRAFT IS GOING SO SLOW!" and "WILL WE FINISH THIS DRAFT BY THE BEGINNING OF THE SEASON!?!" which would be a good thing, IMO.

Count me in with those who don't see the big deal with the trade. If I could dump off a bunch of players I didn't have any intention to keep for Prince Fielder, I'd do the deal, too. And, for the record, Robinson Cano & Bill Hall are on my team's trading block.

Indeed. I remember watching this show awhile back on GAS. This one poor girl was on there, and she was going through the maze, until she ran into a temple guard. Now, normally, it's a pretty simple thing to understand. Temple guard pops out, you give him your pendant, guard goes away. This poor girl couldn't figure out such a simple procedure. She stood there for a few seconds, the host is yelling, "Give him the pendant!" and the guard is standing there, looking like an idiot. It was terrible, yet hilarious.

The French teacher at my high school was fired for being the worst teacher on the planet. She would get easily distracted when she was teaching, and then go off and talk about other things. For instance, one class was entirely about what the difference between an antique and a collectible was. She, apparently, did the same thing in the English classes she taught. Of course, it took my school two whole years to discover this, basically killing the French program in the process. Also, when the new principal came in, he dumped a bunch of teachers because he felt they were the old principal's cronies. This led to the Chemistry teacher going on a long rant about how terrible the new principal was, right after she was fired. The rest of the old guard also hated the new principal with a passion because of this. Good times. The science department was pretty much terrible at my old high school. It went through 10+ teachers in my four years there. This was especially remarkable, seeing as there was a maximum of two teachers employed at any given time. One class even went through 5 different teachers in one year, not counting substitutes. Not surprisingly, my school closed a few years ago.

After thinking about it, I think I'll make my third keeper Ben Gordon.

That's pretty much how I feel about the last two picks. The Alexander pick puzzles me. His NFL.com profile calls him "roster filler" and makes him out to be a fairly huge project. I could see the Lions taking a guy like that later on, but in the second round? Trading up for him, no less. Just terrible. I am not entirely sold on Stanton myself. It seems like there is a mix of opinions on the guy. On the one hand, I keep hearing that's he a tough customer who has had the misfortune of playing on a bad team(Seeing the team who picked him, his misfortune looks to continue). On the other, I have heard that his accuracy is horrible, his arm strength is OK, and some feel that he's destined to be the next Tony Banks. I am not sure what to think. Add in the fact that Trent Edwards fell all the way to the third round, and I am starting to think the Lions should have went elsewhere with this pick. I am a bit excited about the Johnson pick, but the rest of the Lions' first day just feels so underwhelming. I was thinking that the Lions would able to fill some needs in the second and third rounds, but, alas, it looks like Matt Millen struck out this time. As a casual fan of the University of Hawaii, I am happy to see Francis go to the Lions, but I just can't be happy with the other two picks. Hopefully, time will change me on them, but, seeing that I am talking about the Lions here, I have my doubts.

I am really happy that ESPN decided to show a close up of Eagles' fans for that pick. Their reaction was priceless.

I agree. I chuckled when the ESPN guys said they wouldn't take him because they have JP Losman. I am hoping that he falls far enough that the Lions trade up to get him, but that's probably wishful thinking on my part.

It's the Lions. They were likely headed towards that anyway. I can't say I mind the pick myself. I always felt the whole drafting 3 WR's thing was a bit overblown anyway. OF course, I am not sure the Lions necessarily needed a WR, but if he's really the best player in the draft, then it's not a bad pickup. If the Lions trade him for a king's ransom, even better.

Yeah. Someone said on the Today show something to the effect of: "Most people will be disgusted by this video, but people just like this kid will view it and decide that they, too, can be famous by doing the same thing." That is probably what will happen, too. Already, this has dominated the news all week. It will likely have enough legs to be talked about for another week or two. Not to mention the fact that the media will bring it up every year on its anniversary or whenever there is another school shooting. If you're some suicidal nobody, it's easy to see how this could be your ticket to immortality. The scary thing is that some kid will eventually succeed in killing more people in one of these attacks than in this one and Columbine combined.

Well, it looks like my team, the White Tigers, took home the Championship with an impressive 7-1 win over the Alfdogg Asylum to win my second TSM NBA H2H Championship. I actually thought Alf would roll right over my guys after seeing that he had a pretty big advantage in games left to be played going into the title game. Thankfully, it appears a number of factors worked in my advantage(injuries to Alf's team & a few of my players playing insanely well on my team.) I guess karma was repaying me for taking a risk and cutting Tracy McGrady last year. My team looks to be in decent shape for next year, as I have the choice of Gasol, Bosh, Gordon, & West for my keepers. I am definitely keeping Gasol & Bosh, but I may well have a hard choice between Gordon & West on my hands. The funny thing is that I was probably keeping LaMarcus Aldridge before the heart condition ended his season. I had then settled on keeping Gordon, but after West basically won me the Championship, he is definitely proving to be a very tempting keeper choice.
