ESPN sucks, so do thread closers

Well, expecting an entertainment show/channel to assign points to sportswriters fairly certainly takes the cake, doesn't it? I've seen the light. This thread doesn't suck. In fact, it is the greatest thread ever to hit the Sports forum in my entire reign as moderator. A thread like this can not afford to languish in obscurity any longer. It must continue on to CLASSICS~!, where its greatness can be fully appreciated.

    The ESPN Thread Lives Forever

We'll just see about that. Remember, my internet dick is enormous. Leena said so.

    The ESPN Thread Lives Forever

Rumors to that effect have been greatly exaggerated.

I've got a split account. You'll find quite a bit of wrestling on it though.

    The Simpsons Question

On the second point, the creators simply stopped using the character and used the "Marvin Monroe Memorial wing," implying he died. There was no specific episode/occurrence.

One Game You Wish You Could Have Seen

Sportsmans Park was a bit difficult, I'm sure I forgot something. I feel pretty good about the top few though. 1. October 15, 1946. Enos Slaughter scores from first on a double in the eighth as the Cardinals win the World Series. 2. August 19, 1951. Eddie Gaedel pinch hits and walks. 3. October 6, 1934. Dizzy Dean inexplicably pinch runs and is beaned on the noggin during a double play. (Game Four of the World Series) 4. September 28, 1947. Broadcaster Dizzy Dean complains that he could pitch better in retirement than the Browns' current pitching staff. The Browns take him up on his offer, and Dizzy throws four scoreless innings. 5. August 24, 1951. Browns' owner Bill Veeck runs "grandstand managers day."

Best I could find on that trade was speculation by the Chicago Tribune. I can't imagine the Orioles trading Brian Roberts for that particular package.

He'll do forum maintenance and upgrades from time to time, but never really posts in the forums.

Tournament in Rio? WWE.com really needs to do that for at least one entrant.

The combination of MSG and the Rumble makes this a PPV I'll order. Looks like a great card.

    Smackdown Spoilers for 1/11/08

Let me elaborate on those WO.com spoilers. I liked the match. They retaped the end segment because one, Michelle talked on the microphone the second time when she didn't the first time. Second, Noble charged the ring the second time when he just glared in the aisle the first time. That's why. Except that the Undertaker turned back both men, though I'm not sure when they'll stick the commercial break. And Finlay hit Khali with a chair. Khali hit Finlay with a kick and Finlay bled (hardway) from that. Halfway decent? The match was GOOD.

Before the NWA show, we get the ending to Goldberg/Scott Hall from Souled Out. Gotta love the caption... "Don't Taze Me Bro!"

It's nothing Chavo hasn't done before, except he got caught. I think Colin Delaney is Mikey Version 2.

Correct on the Finlay/McMahon stuff. No mention on MVP/Flair, all we saw was an on-screen graphic.

    Review: Mostly RAW from 1/7/08.

I believe 911 left for WCW at this time, hence the ECW burial.

One Game You Wish You Could Have Seen

Five for Ebbets Field. 1. April 15, 1947. Jackie Robinson integrates baseball. 2. October 5, 1941. Mickey Owens' passed ball leads to a Yankee rally in game four. The Yankees took a 3-1 series lead and went on to win the Series. 3. October 3, 1947. Yankees pitcher Bill Bevens loses a no-hitter and the game with one pitch in game four. 4. October 1, 1950. The Whiz Kids win the pennant on the season's final day. 5. June 15, 1938. The Dodgers host their first night game. Johnny Vander Meer seizes the moment and throws his second no-hitter in a row.

One Game You Wish You Could Have Seen

I'll hit Ebbets and Sportsmans Park tomorrow. Since I have a bit of time before tonight's Smackdown show, here's what I came up for in regards to Wrigley Field. 1. October 1, 1932. Babe Ruth calls his shot as the Yankees win game three of the World Series. 2. October 8, 1929. Philadelphia manager Connie Mack bypasses his best starters in favor of journeyman Howard Ehmke to start game one. Ehmke responds by striking out 13 Cub hitters. 3. October 14, 2003. Steve Bartman interferes with a foul ball as the Cubs implode in the eighth inning of game six of the NLCS. 4. September 28, 1938. Gabby Hartnett's "Homer in the Gloamin'." Hartnett hits a game-winning home run with dusk descending on Wrigley Field to claim first place in the NL Pennant Race with less than a week to go. 5. May 6, 1998. Kerry Wood strikes out 20 batters and allows one hit, an infield single.

    MLB Off-season Thread

I'm not certain if the research has been done based on the spot in the batting order. I can tell you though that the first inning (where the optimum order can be set beforehand) sees more runs scored than any other inning. The second inning is the lowest scoring inning of the game. The next six are completely random.
