  1. Good News: Francisco Liriano is rumored to make a rehab start Saturday. Bad News: It would be in the playoffs against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Well, at least he'll be on a pitch count.
  2. Minor League Game worth noting: Indianapolis @ Toledo, 7pm ET. A one game playoff to decide who advances into the International League Playoffs (and would play Charlotte in Round One).
  3. Wow. Way to keep the faith guys. Remember, the last four games a team played is ALWAYS completely indicative of their true level of talent. The Phils' bullpen is third in the league in ERA, and they play in a pitchers' park. And Chase Utley = Ryan Howard. And neither of them deserve the MVP.
  4. Congrats to Red Barons' pitcher Jeremy Cummings, who pitched a no-hitter tonight against Rochester.
  5. Wrestlemania III was a solid wrestling show with a legitimately great match. It had one of the biggest wrestling crowds in U.S. history, and featured a match featuring two of the five biggest attractions in wrestling history. Other shows may have produced better wrestling, but there are precious few shows that have matched the atmosphere. And that is what's really important.

  7. Well, Mathieson lasted just six pitches, leaving for an undisclosed injury. It's up to Eude Brito, and we're already down 2-0.
  8. That's just this year though. I would have every intention of thinking that was merely a sample fluke.
  9. And Randall Simon debuts with a base hit. I don't think there's a player in baseball with worse plate discipline.
  10. VICTORINO~! Double Play!
  11. The Hart Foundation did drop the belts to Rick Martel & Tito Santana, in late October. It lasted two years. You know, all this in retrospect, it's kind of sad to hear the constant protests that Wrestlemania III only drew 78,000 fans. Good stuff. Please post the review of WM III when it gets that far.
  12. It's another 10 miles up I-81 past Wilkes-Barre, exit 182. The arena in Wilkes-Barre is the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza (not to be confused with the Wachovia Arena in Philly).
  13. $11 for box seats, $8.50 for bleacher seats. I've got my tickets for the first game already, and I intend to be at all of them.
  14. My AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons have won the IL North!
  15. It's September. The Yankees are well ahead of the pack and now have nine relievers. They'll be fine.
  16. The Pirates and Reds played three on September 2, 1920 at Forbes Field. The Reds won two of the three.
  17. I would add that one of the real problems is that there is a VERY strong possibility that the afternoon game tomorrow will get wiped out as well.
  18. Mathieson's fine, just raw. It sucks that he's up though because he's a tremendous AAA pitcher, and we're in the playoffs.
  19. Best example so far. An abrupt ending is something that seems out of place, even in hindsight. Others that come to mind... Davey Boy Smith/Rick Steamboat (Wrestling Classic) Sabu/Rey Misterio (ONS '06) Jimmy Snuka/Don Muraco (MSG Cage Match)
  20. Hopefully he pulls through and gets over this. One day there is going to be a writer who writes a book about the 2006 Red Sox. They are the choir boys version of the 1991 Mets who had a book written about them called The Best Team That Money Can Buy or something along those lines. This has got to be a season from hell for the Red Sox. It's not quite the same. The Mets lost 90 and 103 games in consecutive seasons. The Red Sox have merely finished (or will finish) out of the running. People forget that the Sox are still on pace to win 90 games.
  21. Randall Simon is now a Phillie. I can't remember a team making this many post-July acquisitions in some time.
  22. It's not unheard of in wrestling. Mike Shaw did the same thing.
  23. The AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons can clinch the division with a win or Rochester loss tonight. The Barons are now in the 15th inning of their game and the Red Wings are in the 13th inning of theirs.
  24. Catching, sorry. Slip of the mind.
  25. That's just an awful, awful trade for the Padres. One of the better pitching prospects in baseball for six starts from a 43 year old pitcher? Ugh.
