  1. I'm working on some basic free agent pitcher listings.
  2. Meanwhile, the Red Sox are initiating every boring defensive tactic they can unveil.
  3. They're not going to address this problem. I have inside sources that indicate they are going to hide under their desks for a month and hope it goes away.
  4. Somewhere, Bill James is cursing the Red Sox for resorting to this lefty/right crap. There was no one on base in the sixth for god sakes!
  5. Since Chris Berman mentioned it, many arguments for Ortiz's MVP candidacy state that 20 of Ortiz's homers either tied the game or put the Red Sox in the league. I went through the game logs and discovered that Alex Rodriguez hit 19 home runs that either tied the game or put the Yankees in the lead.
  6. Biggio actually went to the All-Star game as a catcher in 1991. And that rating for Emil Brown is awfully high. I know these are based on this year, but there really should be some consideration of past performance.
  7. I think Giles is a clear #1 at RF. Abreu's second.
  8. You could've tried playing him. My favorite is that Kansas City's new center fielder rates above their old center fielder.
  9. Bob Geren??? Wow the new A's manager is going to be a former backup catcher for the Yankees. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He wouldn't be the first. Former Yankees Joe Gordon, Hank Bauer, Ed Lopat and Billy Martin all managed the Athletics.
  10. A postseason game played in less than 3 hours?! Say it ain't so!
  11. Where the hell have you been getting rumors? I think everyone in the Phillies' front office knows putting Ryan Howard in left field is a bad idea, and I've never heard any serious discussion about it. It sounds like the same people who convince themselves the Phillies can move Jim Thome back to third base.
  12. Yeah, but sometimes you live in danger of carrying the platoon splits too far. I don't know if it was the right move, but it is at least a defensible move.
  13. None this season that I know of, though I don't have his minor league fielding positions available for the last two years. He played six games at catcher last year in the majors, none this year.
  14. Game 1: Pettitte vs. Hudson Game 2: Clemens vs. Smoltz Game 3: Oswalt vs. Sosa The Astros seem to be the chic pick for the NL, and I really think they're reaching. Last year's series went five games. This year the Astros lost Beltran, Kent and Bagwell from the lineup, and gained Pettitte. The Astros have a great pitching staff, but the Braves are not exactly producing scrubs. The Braves have the clear advantage in hitting. I'm not making picks this year, but I think the Braves are clear favorites.
  15. Looking this up quickly, I can't resist reposting Chris Shelton's Yahoo pic... That out of the way, its a good idea, but Shelton performed well against righties this season. The Tigers may do well to play Shelton full time at DH and find another platoon partner for Pena.
  16. Kotchman's a better hitter. Honestly, he should be starting at first base instead of Erstad.
  17. The Astros might have to part with a high level prospect or player, as they certainly would not be the only team interested in acquiring Dunn.
  18. On the other hand, they could move Berkman to first and play Dunn in the outfield.
  19. There's something amusing about this.
  20. Shoot me an IM.
  21. Well I've got one now. Where the hell is everyone?
  22. We'll need to wait a game or two to see what Fox provides us.
  23. Live AIM chat will be held tonight at tsmbaseball.
  24. It is better than league average, 6th in the National League, and 2nd among the four playoff teams. They also rank 3rd in the league in slugging percentage, 3rd in OPS, and they hit in a good pitchers' park. Seriously, have you even looked at the Braves' hitting statistics?
  25. Leyland's 60. And according to ESPN.com he's been hired already.
