  1. One of the greatest pitchers in the history of the negro leagues. SP Smokey Joe Williams
  2. Pudge Rodriguez was a good signing for the Astros this year. They have a gap at the position, and if the Cubs falter that division is wide open.
  3. WHO CARES? Were people this bad in 1994 when WrestleMania X was promoted as "Ten Years in the Making"? This is such trivial nonsense. Not really, but then TSM was just five people on a mailing list back then.
  4. I'll continue the Expos run. I need a leadoff hitter and left fielder. Tim Raines
  5. Yes, LA and Chicago can be picked twice. New York can be picked three times, as long as Brooklyn is one of those.
  6. I'd note that McCarthy looked like a good choice, but I'd forgotten that he was born in Philadelphia!
  7. Philadelphia Phillies Veterans Stadium Joe McCarthy
  8. Real simple here. In this phase of the MLB draft, you pick where you place your team. In one post, select the following. -Manager. -City. Must be an MLB city from 1901-present. So basically any current location, along with Brooklyn or Montreal. -Actual MLB nickname from that city. -Venue (current or historical) located within that city. Here's the draft order for this phase. alkeiper MFer Beast HarleyQuinn Treble JHawk Brooklyn Zoo Brother Mouzone Smues Smartley Pretty 909 Pinjockey Original Orange Goblin Youth N Asia Bored Agent of Oblivion Gert T Fokai
  9. Robinson's a great pick. His stuff really holds up even today.
  10. There's a possible flaw with the format. A team runs into one difficult opponent and that's it. Cuba can't beat Japan, the Dominicans can't beat the Dutch. This is a big deal in Cuba though, it'll be interesting to see how that country reacts.
  11. Next up I select one of the greatest workers of all time. Johnny Valentine
  12. I'll wrap up the round with a pitcher. Carl Hubbell
  13. Adapt the football playoff system: Top two division winners get byes in each conference. That way you only get 12 teams and eliminate the old "1 stomps 8" seed that is common in the NBA. Plus, it gives a good reward for the top two seeds. This is a good idea. The only problem is that the top team then loses (at least) two extremely profitable home games.
  14. The player should be listed with the team he finished '08 with. Do you have any exceptions? The index thing was very disappointing. They put one on their website but still, come on. I enjoy the book but I rarely feel more enlightened nowadays for having read it.
  15. Korea defeated Japan in the late game last night. So tonight it's Cuba vs. Japan at 11pm (ESPN2), loser goes home. That should be one hell of a game. And putting Alex Rodriguez aside for a moment. If Derek Jeter plays defense for the Yankees like he does for team USA, the Yankees are not going to win shit this season.
  16. Surprise mostly. Not a real memorable one, though I remember thinking it was stupid at the time. Still do.
  17. It's not September and the Phillies aren't chasing. http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/shareit/fwhT
  18. To be fair, the other team had Carlos Delgado and Carlos Beltran.
  19. Oh yeah I forgot. I'm not supposed to care about meaningless exhibitions.
  20. And the US advances! Six batters came to the plate, only Jeter made an out.
  21. Cabrera isn't faltering because he lacks the closer mentality. He's faltering because he's a pretty crummy pitcher.
  22. 5-4. Bases Loaded, one out. Of course, all the drama is killed by the fear of who's going to hurt themselves.
  23. Back to back singles! Now let's see what Captain Clutch does.
  24. Devil's advocate here. Heyman was heel and Vince face. If his promo was true and on the money, is it really a good promo?
