  1. Let's try something new and a little different. Once a month, a new vintage match to discuss. To kick things off, Buddy Rogers meets Killer Kowalski in a 2/3 falls affair. Interesting stuff here. Rogers was a wonderful heel on the mic. Kowalski had psychology down, working the leg of Rogers and possibly preventing the figure four. Rudimentary high spots bring finishes. The fans were tremendously into the action. I'd love to hear some other thoughts.
  2. Hold up EHME. We're running Mondays-Fridays, no Saturday picks.
  3. Niiiiiice pick.
  4. Tough choice here. How much stock do I put in the scouting reports of negro league players? In the end, I just can't pass up 548 career home runs combined with ten gold gloves. Plus, third base is a historically thin position. 3B Mike Schmidt
  5. What amuses me is that at the same time, Julio Lugo may have a torn meniscus from a Spring Training game.
  6. Are we missing anyone besides Beast's pick? Still time to join in, anyone is welcome to pick a slot and a first rounder up til tomorrow (Sunday) evening.
  7. 17,000 is better than I'd have expected for a game like that, to be honest. It's better than the Marlins get, and their games have TWO teams of Major leaguers.
  8. We're just missing a pick from Beast. I'll update the first post tonight and we'll pick up round 2 on Monday.
  9. You're in. Make a pick.
  10. Tell teams to quit fixing the books and asking for corporate welfare. Pretty simple.
  11. Here's the weekend schedule. Times Eastern. SATURDAY Netherlands vs. Venezuela 1pm, MLBN United States vs. Puerto Rico 8pm, MLBN SUNDAY Japan vs. Cuba 4pm, ESPN2 Saturday's Losers Matchup 7:30pm, ESPN2 Mexico vs. Korea 11pm, ESPN2 Japan vs. Cuba is a heck of a matchup. Cuba is the one nation that puts their best foot forward when it comes to international play, and they have steamrolled a few teams in this tournament. I can't really complain about the 11pm start time for Mexico/Korea, it is more convenient for fans of those nations. MONDAY Saturday's Winners Matchup 8pm, ESPN Sunday's Losers Matchup 11pm, ESPN2
  12. Tyler Black is the first pick I've never heard of. Butch Reed is a great pick.
  13. 11:30pm? You're in. And I generally intend to make my picks the following morning unless I'm up late. You can make your pick tonight, though Youth n Asia has the right to claim a player before that. Fantastic to see no missed picks thus far. I'll update the first post with results at the conclusion of each round.
  14. I double checked first to see which players were in the Yahoo players list. Strasburg I doubt would be, thus ineligible yet.
  15. Figures I'd forget something. I'll say yes, because in a league like this I'd rather see another great hitter than watch a guy like Sandy Koufax take his hacks.
  16. SP Brian Matusz
  17. I didn't see a post in the original thread. You're in though.
  18. AKA when believing Leena's shit goes too far.
  19. Oh yeah, if the preceding person has made their pick, you can jump the gun on your time slot.
  20. As promised, it is time to get this thing off the ground. Here are some specifics. -The goal is to build a 25 man roster. You can assemble any type of team you like, there is no specific requirement on number of pitchers, catchers, etc. The only rule is that you need to field a nine man lineup. -All reasonable players are allowed. This includes major leaguers, minor leaguers, negro league players, and international players of renown. -We are going in a straight draft order, with rounds taking place on weekdays Monday through Friday. Saturdays and Sundays will be rest days. You can make your pick at any time after your chosen time. -I am personally going to draft at the END of every round. -I am going to start a separate draft thread for non-players. 4am: Fokai 7am: Gert T 9am: Agent of Oblivion 9:30am: Bored 11am: Youth N Asia 11:30: Original Orange Goblin 12pm: Pinjockey 1pm: 909 3pm: Smartley Pretty 4pm: Smues 4:30: Brother Mouzone 6:30pm: Brooklyn Zoo 8pm: JHawk 8:30: Treble 9pm: HarleyQuinn 11pm: Beast 11:30: MFer First round will kick off tomorrow (Friday) with Gert T making the first selection. Now if anyone else wants to join in, they have until Sunday to do so. They will receive a late first round pick but will proceed normally through the remainer of the draft. If you wish to join, please select an available time slot. You will need to wait until Saturday/Sunday to make your first selection however. Feel free to ask any questions. 21. Anyone else remember the ending table spot for the Edge/Undertaker TLC match? The table stack got messed up and Edge had to take time to set them up again while the Undertaker recovered on the floor. Of course if Undertaker was that hurt on the floor, why didn't Edge just climb the damn ladder?
  22. To be fair, I'd consider him further down the line. Not this high.
  23. I plan on filling out my roster with a few Mid-South wrestling legends. A couple of them went completely undrafted last time. And there is one guy I would take, but the Italian ethnic babyface wouldn't fare as well in New Orleans.
  24. Yeah, there's a Bonds argument for 2000, though I don't feel confident in saying the writers erred on Kent.
  25. I would've picked Ventura except for the minor inconvenience that he was something of a shitty wrestler.
