  1. I think this deserves its own thread. The Diamondbacks send Curt Schilling to the Red Sox in exchange for Casey Fossum, Brandon Lyon, Jorge De La Rosa, and (probably) Michael Goss. The Red Sox get a top notch starter, which they need if they're going to win a championship. They now have a 1-2 punch they haven't had since the days of Ruth and Mays. This gives them an excellent chance to challenge for a World Series title. The D'backs get two good pitching prospects in Jorge De La Rosa and Casey Fossum. Both could end up in the rotation within a year. Michael Goss is a few years away. He has plate disipline and speed, but no power. Brandon Lyon is a decent starter from time to time. I really like this trade for the Sox. They needed to make a run this year, and they now have just the pitchers to do it.
  2. Fuck the SI curse. Its only a cover curse if something happens every time. Once every few months does not equal a curse.
  3. Castillo, Lowell set to return in 2004 If Florida gets those two signed, they have a fairly good working model for their 2004 lineup. If they don't re-sign I-Rod, they'll still have Mike Redmond to catch.
  4. It's not much to read into. We knew there'd be a courting phase of this deal. In any case, we'll know tomorrow.
  5. The fire chair match was three weeks before November To Remember '95, in a match between Cactus Jack and Tommy Dreamer. It was the same show where Mikey won the ECW Title. Interestingly enough, I have the Dreamer/Cactus match on tape from ECW TV. The fire chair incident was entirely clipped out, and the only reference to the incident was Terry's bandaged arm, the cause of which was not mentioned.
  6. Damn, forgot about the gimmick battle royal.
  7. Basically, NONE of my players played on Monday, so their games were stacked over the last two days.
  8. Surprisingly, I jumped all the way to 6-2 in my match-up. Right now, three of my guys (Iverson, Carter, Redd) are in the top 10 in scoring.
  9. So in other words, you're Mo Vaughn.
  10. Steve Lombardi did wrestle a couple dark matches at Wrestlemanias.
  11. I figure I'll take the Billy Beane route. Suck at playing, and work my way into upper management.
  12. Because there's no guarantee those guys will be available, that you'll get them if they are available, or that they'll be any better than Millwood. Another advantage of signing Millwood is not losing a draft pick.
  13. Thanks to Carter's 41 point effort, I've closed the gap to 3-4 in my matchup.
  14. That wouldn't make me hit any better. And that's assuming I'm there the entire season.
  15. And plunderin, I'm not laughing at your health, just the general notion that any of us could play big league ball. I personally would hit .014 and make 100 errors a year, as a DH.
  16. I do agree, however, that the system needs to be, lets say updated. Here's a brief explanation of the system.... First off, we have a percentage based system. So a player who plays a weak position in one league will get a higher ranking than we might expect. That might be fair, considering the elements of supply and demand. The system also takes statistics of the last two years. Again, perfectly fair, although I would go three years myself. The problem Elias has is the stats themselves they employ. As far as I know, Elias doesn't reveal the whole system, but we know they use alot of counting stats. They also use alot of bullshit team-dependant stats, such as RBIs and saves. They need to evolve the system to involve more sabermetrically oriented stats. I'm not saying they should use whatever Baseball Prospectus comes up with, but they should use OBP instead of batting average, and stuff like that.
  17. (muffles laughter)
  18. Ugh. Roger Cedeno isn't worth the waiver price.
  19. They already have Mussina, so they'd only need two of those. The White Sox re-signed Sandy Alomar. Not sure of the price, but if its around $500,000, its a good deal. Alomar has a little pop and is a decent backup. EDIT: It's $750,000 with a club option.
  20. Please. If they survived losing Jason Giambi, Johnny Damon, and Jason Isringhausen, I'm sure they can win without Ramon Hernandez.
  21. Not surprisingly, Jay Mariotti likes the trade..... http://www.suntimes.com/output/mariotti/cs...-spt-jay26.html In addition, the A's and Padres have completed the Kotsay for Long/Hernandez trade.
  22. Jayson Stark is reporting that the Phillies offered Kevin Millwood a three year deal.
  23. I think the NL Central has quickly devolved into a pissing contest between the Astros, Cardinals, and Cubs. What once looked like a highly competitive division is being squandered thanks to the Astros insistance to play Brad Ausmus, the Cardinals refusal to build a pitching staff, and the Cubs refusal to let a prospect play for their team. Consider the Cubs track record over the last three years. In addition to trading Choi, they also traded away Bobby Hill, their second base prospect. At least they got players back for Hill though. Consider some of the other memorable trades the Cubs have made the last few years..... AL Batting Champion Bill Mueller for Jeff Verplancke Reliever Tom Gordon for Ross Rohlicek, Travis Anderson and Mike Nannini 2002 Rookie of the Year Eric Hinske for Miguel Cairo And lets not forget that they also traded Dontrelle Willis. The Cubs have a terrible track record here, and one that should not go unnoticed, especially if they fail to win the NL pennant over the next few years.
  24. Why the hell would the Cubs make this trade? They had a great first base prospect. They didn't need a first baseman. All this does is hurt their chances of getting a prime free agent while only moderately improving their team at first. And Verne, I gotta agree with you. A certain group of managers keep getting jobs only because they have prior managerial experience.
  25. It baffles me that Francona is a serious managerial candidate. He's a career .440 manager, and he's never managed a .500+ team.
