Ken Brett passed away at 55. While best known as George Brett's brother, Ken was a good player in his own right. As a pitcher, Brett sported a career .406 slugging percentage.

His defense is excellent, but you can find a defense first catcher anywhere, and it defys logic that you sign a catcher like this before I-Rod and Javy Lopez sign.

Bored, just try to remind them that Ramon Hernandez is a catcher who had his first good season, and not the second coming of Jesus. My apologies. Baseball-reference.com lists the players as starters by using their games played by position. Since Byrnes split between left/center, he appeared on the bench. Still, that's not a good mark for your best outfielder.

Just look at the A's outfield. Chris F'n Singleton had the best OBP of the three, with .301. They desperately needed outfielders, and I think these moves improve the outfield more than they hurt the catching position.

Ignore that they added Bret Boone and Ichiro Suzuki. Really that's just a silly argument. They're absolutely stupid if they do it.

As for Hernandez, the A's are high on Jeremy Brown, an OBP machine in the minors.
