  1. I don't really think WWE needs to remove Benoit from the record books or edit him out of every TV show and PPV from 2000-07. They certainly are right to remove his merchandise and once his DVD goes out of print obviously won't reissue it, but it's absurd to try and erase him from history. The confusing part is how to treat shows like WM XX when they put out a box set or something. Is it just a show they will skip over? As far as the steroid part, I don't know what to think. The media is right to go after WWE in regards to steroids and their dubious testing process, but it likely doesn't apply to Benoit killing his family (well maybe as one of a dozen factors).
  2. Nowinski may have a point in regards to concussions leading to severe depression and thoughts of suicide, but I don't know how much concussions can lead to a guy flipping out to this degree. There's no easy answers to it. I think there were several factors: --Years and years of steroid abuse. I don't buy the roid rage theory, but juicing is hardly good for someone's mental health. --Frustrations at work. Being on the road with WWE is stressful, and add to it Benoit wasn't really going to main event for a serious brand anymore. Probably in and of itself not stand alone reason to do what he did, but the feeling of realizing his best days are behind him could have contributed to his state of mind. --Home problems. From the reports coming out, his married life was rocky to say the least. Add to it a child that was suffering from Fragile X, which strained things all the more at home. --Eddie Guerrero, his best friend and confidant, died not too long ago. And it was mainly due to the negative lifestyle of being a pro wrestler. It's not hard to see how he had some serious problems based on that. If someone's home life is a wreck, been demoted to a 3rd tier job at work, and add to it a best friend dying....it's easy to see how a feeling of suicidal hopelessness can set in. In hindsight we can say "He should have gotten help" but maybe he didn't realize how bad off he was? I'm not excusing what he did, just trying to comprehend why. If he felt like there was nothing left and that he couldn't go on, it would have been better to go out like Cobain (as in blowing his own brains out and not harm anyone else) rather than go the OJ route.
  3. I don't get why the Suns are obsessed with trading Marion or Stoudamire. Yeah, Amare made a foolish mistake in leaving the bench, but NBA 1st team is an elite status. If Phoenix can somehow work it to where they can get Garnett and keep Stoudamire then it would be great. Frankly, I fail to see precisely what Garnett adds that is so much better than what they have now. I suppose he's more experienced (and older), but the Suns now have more playoff experience in terms of going deep than he does. I think the Suns just need a bit more depth coming off the bench, but other than that they just need some luck for a change. No more major injuries, no bizarre suspensions. But really it worries me when the Suns start panicking about being oh so close. They were close in 1995 and then traded Majerle to the Cavs. That said, nothing on the table here is nearly as stupid as that trade, since they at least get Garnett instead of Hot Rod Williams.
  4. For what it's worth I do have WM 23 listed but I didn't watch it so who knows. It's a waste of time to try and edit Benoit off every show in existence. People know he was on all those shows. That said, I don't think I'd bother posting specific shorties with him, or show obscure footage either.
  5. This show was good enough for what they were trying to accomplish and it did at least help me take my mind off You Know Who for a while. That said I'm not sure what the point is with jobbing Nitro to Cena in his first match as ECW Champ. Do they want to make sure he has zero heat or credibility with the belt?
  6. Yeah I don't think Vince owes anyone an apology about the show last night. Watching it I wasn't sure what to think, but hell they had to air SOMETHING. I guess the only other alternative is just air a test pattern for 3 hours, but that makes no sense. At that point they didn't have all the facts and it might have been an odd show, but not disrespectful. As far as Chavo goes, I don't blame him for anything. Those messages were a little bizarre, but the guy was getting ready for a PPV match and might have glanced at them, maybe thought it was mildly curious, and then went about his business. Then as time elapsed and he heard nothing else from Benoit he realized there was something else going on. I dunno. I have to say that even before this while I respected Benoit's ring efforts I was never a real huge fan of his due to some reservations I had about his character. The guy basically started nailing another man's wife due to a storyline contrivance, but I don't recall anyone on the net condemning Benoit for this. If anything a lot of people complained about Sullivan "burying Benoit" or whatever. Nevermind that Sullivan might have been justifiably pissed off. If anything I am amazed Sullivan was as professional about it as he was. Since I was never Benoit's biggest fan, I'm not here to mourn him nor cuss him and badmouth him. He was obviously quite disturbed under the surface and it's a pity he had to kill his family rather than just hanging himself a la Mike Awesome and being done with it. I do know that things in WWE won't ever quite seem the same after this.
  7. They ought to just quietly job the belt off Nitro soon. Cause if he holds it any length of time he'll always be seen as "the guy who got a title because of the Benoit tragedy." I have a morbid curiosity about this show tonight. Mostly the crowd and the presentation, not so much the matches. Can you imagine the Expose chicks blathering on about The Miz and all that crap after what happened this weekend?
  8. I have to admit some of these jokes (admittedly in poor taste) did get a chuckle out of me. Instead of ranting at those posting them I'm looking at these jokes as a form of coping with the entire situation. I agree with the posts about Benoit possibly killing his own son. I can see a guy who travels a lot killing his cheating wife in a domestic dispute. But the son part is what could put this in a different realm from OJ Simpson. We can joke about OJ (like the hilarious Chris Rock standup) because he actually was found not guilty, even if there is a 95% chance he did do it. Also, the victims in the OJ case were his ex wife and her "friend/lover" that were on some levels not especially sympathetic. If OJ had killed one of his kids as well, we would look at it differently. As far as WWE goes, where do they go from here? If this story is true, the media is going to trash WWE big time and it might cause a severe downturn in business. They certainly should not try to mention Benoit in a storyline from now on.
  9. Wow, this feels really weird. It's hard to explain how this news makes me feel, since last night's PPV was so bizarre with how Benoit left and they barely explained it. In fact I even remember saying something to the effect of wondering if someone was dead, thus explaining his no show. In fact I feel awful about chiding them over that ECW title match now, as if that matters at this point. I guess right now I'm just shocked. Need to hear what exactly happened before mourning. Anyway I'm going back to watch the tribute Raw.
  10. I don't understand WWE constantly bringing back totally washed up old bums for matches. What exactly do Slaughter, Snuka, or these other old guys have to offer at this point? They are completely washed up. Here's some reality: Jimmy Snuka had his peak years when BOB BACKLUND was the WWF champion. Even as a kid I mostly saw Snuka as a glorified jobber on TV. He means nothing to me. Slaughter also means little to me, since his peak years ended by 1985 or so and them mentioning his title win over the Warrior only brings back awful memories of Slaughter's traitor gimmick. Most of these guys aren't even over anymore for nostalgia purposes, have crappy matches, and give the younger guys zero rub. Why do it?
  11. Okay I actually DID get this PPV tonight and the major catalyst for doing so was the Punk/Benoit match. Had I found out in time that it wasn't happening I really don't know if I would have messed with it. Just as I thought Vince winning the ECW title was the nadir they could hit, they put a "world" title on....Johnny Fucking Nitro??? How exactly is Nitro any sort of credible or viable champion? I felt so sorry for CM Punk tonight, I really did. Not only did he not get to do the fanboy dream match with Benoit, he had to hear the obvious chants of "We want Benoit" as he jobbed totally clean to a guy who was tagging with Kenny on Heat 2 weeks ago. A guy he beat with zero fanfare for a MITB spot. Seriously, with this ECW do they sit down and think of ways to try to suck? And to compound the fiasco of this tonight I bet they actually seriously attempt to push Nitro with the belt and have him go over Punk in a rematch and then maybe over Benoit as well. I could tell that Nitro was winning due to body language alone, since Punk really seemed like he didn't want to be there and Nitro was smiling ear to ear, knowing he was getting a belt that he in no way deserved. This ECW brand is just hexed. Even when they attempt something decent it ends up flopping in historic fashion. It may well have been the worst PPV of 2007 thus far, not just due to that match (which honestly as a match wasn't terrible or anything). The entire show was like watching a Bill Watts era WCW PPV with all these clean heel victories, except the actual work wasn't nearly as good as those shows. The ending of Edge/Batista was hilarious, but really a copout as well. Oh, and will they please stop booking these 4 and 5 way matches with Cena? It's not feasible for a guy to keep retaining in these things, since at some point someone would pin someone else. The ultra long term champion is something that doesn't work that well in the era of Raw and monthly PPVs. Long term champs like Hogan and Backlund weren't constantly all over TV and PPVs going over all the challengers.
  12. Why is Ashley going to Survivor some sort of state secret that can't be discussed? London probably mentioned it a few times in passing thinking it was no big deal either way. What is with this idea for a Snitsky push? Do they seriously think that by 2008 anyone will give a shit about Snitsky? If they had originally done a push with him in early 2005 after the Kane/Lita "You killed my baby!" storyline then it may have had a shot. But this just reeks of another lame Albert type push, except with a lesser worker.
  13. Angle has been a nightmare from a character standpoint in TNA, and really for most of his career. I think that is a problem I have with Angle...the guy seems insane. This isn't like a wrestler who seems one way and then reveals new aspects of his personality (like Edge over his career). Angle has literally done character 180s that go beyond heel/face distinctions. He's been a silly goofball with the 3 Is, then suddenly a vicious legbreaker, an American hero, a cowardly heel, a sex pervert into beastiality and brown sugar, an anti American heel, and finally as a serious wrestler who just wanted titles and respect. I guess my point is that top tier wrestlers either go from good to bad but they don't just change their entire identity. Ric Flair is always just....Flair. Whether you are supposed to root for him or not, he manages a consistency of character. Or there can be maybe a full 180 from ultra good to ultra bad (like Hogan in the NWO). Angle was always a shades of gray character from his debut. But is that really the right character to give someone who is a newcomer? It seems more logical to me to debut a guy as either a heel or face, but Angle debuted with a character that blurred the lines of heel/face so we never quite fully understood if he was good or bad, if we're supposed to boo or cheer him, etc.
  14. Okay, look. I actually agree with most of what was said about college football. It has to be considered inferior to the NFL if for no other reason than the god awful BCS that consistently freezes out teams from the title scene. College football is the only sport where a team can go undefeated and not really win anything substantial. And the level of play isn't on par with the NFL by any means. As far as college hoops goes, obviously the pro players are more skilled. I mainly argued that the college game is more exciting and fun to watch. I can recall maybe one truly thrilling NBA game over the entire season (it was Phoenix vs. Dallas in an OT game). There may have been more, but that's really the only one I can remember off the top of my head. In college I remember some crazy great games with Texas vs. A & M, Texas vs. OK State, Tennessee vs. Ohio St. (Sweet 16), Ohio St. vs. Xavier, Georgetown vs. UNC, and so on. This is a pointless argument. I mean, I'm from Louisville, KY so what am I supposed to say? Am I supposed to prefer watching the NBA when this is a totally college market with U of L, UK, and IU? There just isn't much casual interest in the NBA here, in fact right now there may even be a negative view of the NBA. People in NBA cities would likely feel differently about this. As far as the fairest format for the NBA, I guess a whole round robin tourney might make everyone play everyone else but that isn't really feasible. For instance, I don't really know if the Pistons were the best team in 2004. Would they have beaten the Spurs or T-Wolves? Were the Heat serioulsy the best team last year? Could they have beaten either Phoenix or San Antonio? Could the Spurs have beaten the Heat in 2005? Were the Spurs really better than the Suns this year? For a definitive Best of 7 format there have been a lot of questions after the playoffs.
  15. I think the jury is out on the Jarrett thing right now. Thus far it's been a touching tribute to her and makes TNA look classy compared to the Vince crap on Raw. With that said, if Jarrett uses this to gain sympathy for himself and then gives himself the title again thinking people will accept it, then it enters into him using her death for his own gains. There's no real reason for Sting to come down from the rafters, but Owen's death was 8 years ago. As long as Sting is willing and they triple check the harness, I won't get up in arms over it.
  16. Monday won't be so bad if they have some fun with the angle and have guys do mocking tributes to Vince rather than this serious crap. How about Steph doing another awful whiny promo about her dad and the entire roster busts out laughing? They are starting to push Matt Hardy on SD, though I wonder if people will be all that receptive to him as a main event singles guy. It would help if they would decide to just push him single, but they can't resist the big money Hardys tag matches on PPV. That Beck segment was so cheesy. Why wouldn't he just announce who the other person was? Is the FBI now in the business of building things up for ratings?
  17. I'm intrigued to see Survivor Series 93 since I haven't seen that PPV in forever. That's the ticket 24/7. I want obscure PPVs from the early 90s.
  18. First off, Ripper I basically have to disagree that the NBA is more popular than College hoops. Is the postseason as exciting? No. Are the games more exciting? Not really. The NBA used to at least have a clearly higher level of play, but when you see these crappy 75-72 games in the Finals they can't even say that with a straight face anymore. One look at the Final 4 ratings (and the tourney in general) compared to the NBA ratings will show quite clearly that around the country people care more about college hoops. These are two totally different fanbases though, believe me. Those who are college fans REALLY are obsessed with it and are consistent about that. And frankly, a lot of college hoops fans wipe their ass with the NBA and have little use for it. That isn't me quite yet, but a few more years of BS like that Suns/Spurs series and tedious Finals and I might feel that way. The NBA more than any league is predicated on having exciting teams and stars. When that isn't the case (like right now) people in middle American cities and towns that don't have a team tune out in droves. Frankly it just lasts way too damn long, which is baffling considering that even with Best of 7 formats I'm not 100% sure the best team is actually winning the title. In all honesty I don't rate the 1960s Celtics as highly as some people. They dominated what was an 8-9 team league. It's not like they were the Yankees or anything, who dominated a league with twice the teams. Wanna hear how terrifying the Eastern Conf. has become? Look at the playoff teams from 10 years ago: Chicago (69-13), Miami (61-21), New York (57-25), Atlanta (56-26), Detroit (54-28), Charlotte (54-28), Orlando (45-37), and Washington (44-38). I mean WOW. The East had SIX teams with 50+ wins. Hell the Hornets would be the #1 seed in the East today with that record. The Bulls beat the piss out of quality teams with 56 wins (Hawks) and 61 wins (Heat) and treated them like jobbers. Compare it to now and the Pistons didn't actually have as good of a record as they did in 1997. Yet now they were a 1 seed and considered a threat. Back then they were a JTTS that lost the first round to the Hawks. The East is dire right now and it's very tough for the conf. to be decent if the Knicks, Celtics, and Sixers all suck. I don't recall that ever happening for an extended amount of time. In essence the East has traditional powers that suck, an inconsistent top group of dubious drawing power (Miami, Cleveland), and a consistent Detroit team that captivates no one. The Western Conference has issues that are more curious. The Lakers have dominated the West ever since moving to L.A. to the point where no one else has ever had to be a major draw. Some teams were a big ratings success due to playing the Bulls (Phoenix, Utah), but I don't know if those teams themselves were a major draw. That said, I'm not shocked that the 1993 Finals was one of the most watched ever. It's really the Finals that captivated me and made me a fan of the NBA.
  19. Oh goodie, soon they will have Joe and Angle with all the belts. What is this, the 2 man power trip? Does TNA not realize that angle basically wrecked the WWF's business in 2001? Actually it at least makes some sort of sense with Joe and Angle though. Joe needs to play more of a clear cut face in this storyline, since he's not very sympathetic right now yelling at a poor interviewer chick and all that. I almost think this would work better if they had a clear cut face guy to main event (ahem RVD) and then have Joe as a tweener and Angle the heel.
  20. I actually think we'll get that Monty face turn since I don't see them keeping him and Burke both heels on the same side much longer. They are teasing dissention there. So you can thus have Punk as a heel, Burke a heel, Cor Von a face, Benoit a face.
  21. Why would Edge not be champion going into WM next year? Cause looking at that roster they aren't exactly many good options on it. Would Rey or Matt Hardy be a threat right now? I don't see this whole Kennedy thing though, since he has been moved to Raw and is still apparently a heel. I think Kennedy is likely to end up buried in all of this, especially since UT vs. Edge in a payback feud is easily a bigger draw for WM.
  22. You know what's wild about Sunrise? Some years ago I read a magazine called Classic Images and they had a poll like this from readers. The top 4 was GWTW, Casablanca, Kane, and then Sunrise. There's so much stuff I'd put on this list that wasn't on here. How about Laura? Red River? From Here to Eternity? All Quiet on the Western Front, which vanished from the list and pissed me off? How about Paths of Glory? Rebecca, Touch of Evil, the list goes on and on. The Big Sleep, The Adventures of Robin Hood, and so on. The biggest snub to me was The Big Sleep. How is Maltese Falcon so much better, aside from perhaps having better heels? And good grief, can't we get some real Cagney stuff on the list instead of Yankee Doodle Dandy?
  23. I can already see the booking on Sunday for this match. Benoit will win a tough contest and then extend his hand to Punk again, but this time Punk refuses and walks away. This can either be used to turn him heel, or maybe to put him into more of a tweener category. As in he still hates the New Breed heels, but also has problems with Benoit.
  24. I'm not going to argue about The Searchers and its placement, but is it really by far the best John Wayne movie? It's not necessarily my favorite, since if I had the choice of what to watch on a deserted island I'd watch either She Wore a Yellow Ribbon or Red River instead. I'd also watch The Quiet Man over Searchers. Vertigo is a bit overrated, but that's just my opinion. As far as Hitchcock movies go, I'd much rather watch Psycho, North By Northwest, Rear Window, 39 Steps, Lady Vanishes (those two are British and thus not on the list), Foreign Correspondent, Strangers on a Train. Incidentally why wasn't Strangers on a Train on the list at all? Lack of big name stars?
  25. Okay I watched this entire show and now will comment on all the movies listed and whether I agree or disagree with the placement. 100. Ben-Hur: Neither agree or disagree, it's fine being on here somewhere. That said the silent movie is better. 99. Toy Story: Basically invented a new style of animation, so yeah it deserves a nod. 98. Yankee Doodle Dandy: How sad is it none of Cagney's REAL shit is on here but this is? 97. Blade Runner: Trend setting, but I'm not sure I'd put this on here since I'm not sure which version is being judged. 96. Do The Right Thing: They probably just put this on here so that Spike Lee could be on the show. 95. Last Picture Show: Eh, this is probably worth being on here in some form. 94. Pulp Fiction: I am shocked that this didn't move up into the top 50. 93. The French Connection: Quite good but the ending is bizarre and some might not find Popeye very sympathetic. 92. Goodfellas: I'm stunned that this didn't rise any higher, especially considering that most people say this is Scorsese's best film. 91. Sophie's Choice: This has zero place being on the list. There are hundreds of better movies. At best a *** movie. 90. Swing Time: Not saying it shouldn't be here, but Top Hat is the best A & R movie. 89. The Sixth Sense: What a fucking joke. Everyone should be ashamed of themselves for putting this on here. 88. Bringing Up Baby: His Girl Friday should be on here instead. B.U.B. has always kinda annoyed me. 87. 12 Angry Men: I actually thought this might be higher. 86. Platoon: To me this is the best Vietnam movie, not Apocalypse Now or Deer Hunter. Should be higher. 85. A Night at the Opera: Gotta have 2 Marx movies on the list and this is the first. 84. Easy Rider: This list has a disturbing amount of 60s stuff that doesn't hold up. No excuse for this being on here in this day and age. 83. Titanic: Honestly I'm shocked this made the list at all. 82. Sunrise: Little surprised this made the list, but more in a good way I guess. 81. Spartacus: I know it's a Kubrick movie, but is it REALLY worthy of being here? 80. The Apartment: About right for this one. Maybe not as great as it once was considered though. 79. The Wild Bunch: I might put Ride the High Country on the list too from Peckinpah. 78. Modern Times: Preachy Chaplin feature, it has some awesome moments but the 2nd half is the maudlin crap that hurts most of his feature length movies. 77. All The President's Men: I guess this is okay being here. 76. Forrest Gump: Some love it, some hate it. I guess it can be here, but let's not get carried away in the future. 75. In The Heat Of The Night: 60s stuff that doesn't hold up. If this was made today, would anyone care? 74. The Silence Of The Lambs: I thought this might be higher, and in the future it likely will be. 73. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid: A fun movie, but hardly anything that should be on a top 100 list. More overrated 60s crap. 72. The Shawshank Redemption: I'm fine with it being here, glad it wasn't TOO high though. 71. Saving Private Ryan: This is a nod to Spielberg, but frankly the entire midsection is boring as hell. 70. A Clockwork Orange: Is this even an American movie? It seems more British to me. 69. Tootsie: No way. Hoffman isn't convincing at all in drag. He just seems like a man in drag, never an actual woman. 68. Unforgiven: Yeah boy. My pick for best film of the 1990s actually. 67. Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?: More overhyped 60s stuff, nowhere near as shocking as it was at the time. 66. Raiders Of The Lost Ark: I pose the question...how can this be on the list when Last Crusade is better? 65. The African Queen: Again, isn't this British? There's better Bogey stuff out there. Why no Big Sleep? 64. Network: Probably should be here, but truth be told I find the non Howard Beale stuff in the movie a bit tedious. 63. Cabaret: I've actually never seen it, so I can't comment. 62. American Graffiti: I suppose this deserves a mention. Whatever happened to Paul Le Mat? 61. Sullivan's Travels: The only Sturges film on the list. Joel McCrea baby! 60. Duck Soup: Glad to see this moved up. I bet I know the entire movie by heart. 59. Nashville: This is fine where it is. Perhaps too polarizing to really move up higher. 58. The Gold Rush: Besides the eating of shoes and the dinner roll dancing, there isn't THAT much here. 57. Rocky: I like Rocky as well as anyone, but is it truly a top 100 movie? 56. Jaws: I haven't taken this seriously since I saw it with my grandpa in 1990 and he laughed his ass off at it. 55. North By Northwest: I'd put this even higher. One of Hitchcock's best. 54. M*A*S*H: Probably should be here, this sounds about right. 53. The Deer Hunter: Very overrated. The Nam scenes are still chilling, but the U.S. scenes are dullsville. 52. Taxi Driver: One of Scorsese's best. It might move up a bit higher in the future. 51. West Side Story: I hate this movie. I know it has to be here, but I still think it blows. 50. The Lord Of The Rings: How did they determine FOTR and not ROTK? Cause ROTK won Best Picture. 49. Intolerance: I notice they took out Birth of a Nation and put this in. Had to have the token Griffith. 48. Rear Window: This is just about the right placement. 47. A Streetcar Named Desire: Just about right for this one. Ironic really that this was Brando's coming out party and everyone else won the Oscars and he didn't. 46. It Happened One Night: Very good, but there are dozens of romantic comedies from the 30s about as good. 45. Shane: It needed Randolph Scott instead of Alan Ladd. About right otherwise. 44. The Philadelphia Story: Love this one, I might even put it higher. 43. Midnight Cowboy: About right for this one I guess. 42. Bonnie and Clyde: Again, another 60s movie that at the time shocked people, but now not so much. 41. King Kong: Had to be there, still a great thrill ride. 40. The Sound Of Music: Can anyone seriously defend this aside from it being really, really popular? 39. Dr. Strangelove: I'm surprised this went down. 38. The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre: Probably deserving of being here, but not quite so high. 37. The Best Years Of Our Lives: Just about right for this one. And by the way, it's Dana Andrews that carries it. 36. The Bridge on the River Kawi: Took quite the tumble, though Zhivago didn't make the list at all. 35. Annie Hall: Probably deserves a placement, but why is it better than any number of Allen's 1970-80 output? 34. Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs: Had to have a token early Disney movie, this being the first. 33. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest: Sounds about right, swept all the awards that year. 32. The Godfather Part II: Why is this the only sequel on the list, and also 30 spots below the original when it's considered as good or better? 31. The Maltese Falcon: No argument really, but I really don't find it a huge amount better than the 1931 original. 30. Apocalypse Now: Are they rating the theatrical version or the Redux? 29. Double Indemnity: About right really but there are a dozen noirs in the 40s just as good. 28. All About Eve: You know it's odd but I have never sat down and watched this all the way through. 27. High Noon: Most overrated movie in the top 50. If anyone cares to know why I feel this way, feel free to ask. 26. Mr. Smith Goes To Washington: Should have made the top 25. 25. To Kill a Mockingbird: Is this REALLY that good? Personally I think it's a fairly bleh adaptation of an amazing book. 24. E.T: I saw this at the 2002 reissue and thought it sucked ass in the cold light of day. But then I wasn't a kid anymore. 23. Grapes Of Wrath: I can see this being high on the list, but there's something about it I've never cared for. Just find some parts of it...hokey? 22. Some Like It Hot: Some movies are just going to be highly ranked. I don't know if it's really this good, but any movie with Joe E. Brown in a major role can't be all bad. 21. Chinatown: A question to ponder here. Should a movie that is an homage to 40s noir/detective movies be ranked higher than those actual 40s movies? Again...no Big Sleep on the list? 20. It's a Wonderful Life: Took a bit of a drop. Could it be some are rethinking the message of this movie? 19. On The Waterfront: Another film that took a dive, but really it was a bit overrated in the last poll. 18. The General: Surprised to see this so highly ranked. In fact it probably shouldn't be THIS high. 17. The Graduate: Of all the overrated 60s movies on the list, this is the most overrated. Glad it fell a bit. 16. Sunset Blvd: A very famous film and I have to wonder why Gloria Swanson didn't do much in talkies considering she's got a great voice and presence. 15. 2001: A Space Odyssey: I don't even know how to rate this movie, haha. The cool stuff in it is still cool, but the entire portion with Dr. Floyd is sleep inducing in its boredom. 14. Psycho: To me this is Hitckcock's best film. I can't believe Vertigo is higher. 13. Star Wars: They just can't bring themselves to put this in the top 10. Can't say I blame them since to me it's the weakest of the original trilogy. 12. The Searchers: This jumped big time, but why no other Wayne movies on the list? 11. City Lights: I can see this being #11 about 30 years ago, but now? How did it rise so much? 10. The Wizard Of Oz: This one is obvious, it had to be top 10. 9. Vertigo: This should not be so high, since damn near all the other Hitchcock stuff on the list is more entertaining. 8. Schindler's List: I won't argue the placement, but quite honestly I don't find myself wanting to see this more than maybe two times. 7. Lawrence Of Arabia: I guess it's considered Lean's best film, though I might say River Kwai. 6. Gone With The Wind: How the mighty have fallen...GWTW now outside the top 5. Blasphemy. 5. Singin' In The Rain: Aren't they getting a bit carried away here? The Broadway Melody number alone drags this movie down to where I wouldn't put it in the top 10. Shouldn't Gold Diggers of 1933 or some Berkeley movie be in the top 100 somewhere? 4. Raging Bull: This is way too high. Like Duane Allman at #2 on a guitarist list level high. Goodfellas and Taxi Driver are both better in my book. 3. Casablanca: This one is obvious, had to be in the top 5. 2. The Godfather: I wonder how this is 30 spots higher than part 2. Much like Star Wars and LOTR, it's odd seeing this so high when it's not even the best film in its own series. 1. Citizen Kane: I could go on a rant about this, but I'd be wasting my breath.
