  1. Honestly I don't think HHH could have even carried Steiner to anything decent if he had wanted to. And really, HHH ended up looking like shit in that match too so I don't really see the sabotage on his end when it comes to Steiner. I think it was mostly WWE signed Steiner and desperately wanted to do something big with him since they had basically buried everyone else on Raw.
  2. I quite liked the UT and Big Show stuff. I liked that UT toned down the crazy satanist stuff during that angle and instead seemed more like an evil football coach putting Show through the grind. Shame he got hurt in Sept. 1999.
  3. I enjoyed the minis match quite a bit, but I love Max Mini. He ruled. I recall seeing him in a dark match at a Raw in 1999 and thought he was incredible. That said, Nitro was clearly the better show on that particular week. Plenty of quality wrestling on it and of course the major Hennig heel turn angle. WCW likely was better most of these weeks leading up to Starrcade 97, but man after that it seemed like things started reeling for WCW and the WWF started the build to the Rumble and WM and never looked back.
  4. The point isn't however what sort of goofy gimmick match they have, it's the fact that Angle is wrestling AT ALL after seemingly being paralyzed with a broken neck after taking a top rope DDT on the PPV. This would be like if Shawn Michaels faced Chris Jericho on Raw the night after Jericho busted up his injured eye and the PPV match was stopped. Call me crazy but I think the Dutt/Lethal feud just needed to be some insane Russo swerve kind of shit. They are trying for a more current WWE style soap opera angle here and it's just dragging on and on. Just have So Cal Val do a heel turn on Lethal and let us move on with our lives.
  5. I don't even know if most of this stuff is exactly Wrestlecrap. The Team Challenge Series stuff obvious is, especially things like the football match. But The Texas Hangmen squashing a couple of jobbers? That might be a bit boring, but it's not really Wrestlecrap.
  6. I'll have to check out that SuperBrawl 96 PPV. I've never really seen any of it, but I have to admit the main event at least sounds interesting. WCW was weird in that pre NWO era of Nitro, since they would have some good serious action on one hand, but then have the Dungeon of Doom trash as well.
  7. Okay hang on a minute here. Are you telling me that Kurt Angle and AJ Styles have a rematch here just days after Angle damn near was "paralyzed" in the LMS match on PPV? The dude wasn't even moving and we thought his neck was broken. I wonder if Taylor beat Hemme with another rollup finish?
  8. If Foley does go there please let him replace Cornette as the GM. He could be fun in that role, but the last thing TNA needs is yet another washed up WWE guy coming in to take a main event spot.
  9. This next show sounds craptastic, can't wait to actually watch it! When was the AWA's last show on ESPN and when did they finally give up? I want them to backtrack though to 1989. After that, they can feel free to bust out some old school Global action. I wanna see The Patriot, not The Trooper.
  10. You know, in the Hard Justice thread I took a bunch of crap for saying TNA has better actual in ring wrestling than WWE (certainly not booking), but take a look at the results of this show and the comments attached. Smackdown in particular has a plethora of ultra boring, plodding wrestling on it. It's not as noticeable on Raw, since they run stuff at you so fast in 3 min. matches that you can't be easily bored. I think the biggest problem I have with SD is the matches all tell the EXACT same story. It's nothing but "heel dominates 90% of the match with headlocks, armbars, matwork, whatever." I'm sorry but this stuff is just boring to watch ad nauseum for 2 hours. There's more than one story you can tell in a match, and having guys like Brian Kendrick out there doing plodding matwork as an unconvincing (yet dominating) heel isn't all that exciting.
  11. Jed, I so wanted to see that goofy star w/jobber battle royale. It looked hilarious seeing a total jobber like Tom Stone doing a heel turn on Slaughter, haha. Ah well, at least on this recent show Bischoff now has a decent suit and the hair we are used to seeing. Oh and I can't be the only one who finds Larry Z. completely incoherent on the mic.
  12. Basically the problems with HHH and Jericho stem back to Jericho's initial few months in the company, where HHH was just starting to be a main eventer and viewed Jericho as an obvious threat to his spot. So he got in Vince's ear about how Jericho couldn't really work WWF style or whatever and the result was Jericho struggling in lame feuds with Road Dog, X-Pac, and jobbing to Chyna clean. The heat on RVD circa 2001 was due to him busting people open repeatedly in matches. I recall Austin, Jericho, and Angle all being busted open hardway vs. RVD during this era. This would be the first time I recall hearing about Karen Angle, since she actually posted internet comments badmouthing Van Dam for busting Kurt's nose. Since none of these guys had any serious damage done, frankly I thought they came off like pussies.
  13. I have a feeling this is one of those ultra Attitude Era PPVs that won't hold up at all today. The main event was rendered useless by the next night's Raw where HHH won the title for the first time. Shane/Test was fun at the time but obviously never got Test to the next level. UT/Show went nowhere as a team since UT got hurt soon after (returning as the Biker). Shamrock quit the company soon after this PPV. Jarrett went to WCW not long after this as well, maybe 2 months. And Billy Gunn's lame push ended right after this as The Rock dispatched him and sent him back to the tag ranks. So really, this show has a very disposable legacy. I do recall thinking the Kiss My Ass match was a guilty pleasure though.
  14. Steiner was just so horrible in that Rumble match. If he was actually sabotaged, who cares? The dilemma is that if they wanted to main event him, where else are you going to put him? Steiner in the Big Poppa Pump gimmick is a natural heel, so he was put in the awkward position of being face.
  15. Double post.
  16. I can't believe WWE would ever seriously consider putting Timothy Baltimore on TV. He was actually one of the main reasons I flat out stopped watching OVW...he ruined a perfectly fun Dean Hill/Kenny Bolin announce team. Bolin used to constantly take shots at Baltimore on the air, and it didn't strike me so much as "heel announcer trashing face announcer" but rather his actual feelings.
  17. I think The Truth will get over quite well in WWE. It's been long enough ago that most people have forgotten his 2000 stint as K-Kwik. He would make a solid US champ on SD but the thing is SD is a show with such a crazy glass ceiling that no one can break through. Who besides HHH, UT, or Edge is going to be WWE champ anytime soon? And there are guys like Jeff Hardy and MVP that have yet to break out of the midcard. He would probably fare better on Raw, where he could either team or feud with Cena.
  18. I knew there was a reason why the only copy I had of Titanic was an old rental copy....30 bucks was a bit much, though I think it was on 2 tapes. The most ridiculous pricing ever for a movie was the old 50th anniversary Gone With the Wind. It was in a deluxe white box (it was huge) and it was almost 100 bucks.
  19. Oddly enough I actually kinda liked Glacier. If he had just been a guy that debuted rather than having all the vignettes he would probably be considered underrated instead of a mega flop. As far as Ultimo Dragon goes, I knew he would suck in WWE. I thought he sucked in WCW and was at some points ludicrously overpushed (he had EIGHT belts at once??). I think he earned my wrath with that idiotic corner spot where he would stand on his head and his opponent would always charge in like a fool. I really, really hate and detest that spot....and I also thought the Dragon Sleeper was a crap finisher. Smell the armpit and give up!
  20. Cena vs. Batista better not be main eventing the PPV. There are 3 major title matches (well okay 2 really, but I was counting ECW) as well as HIAC on this show. Cena vs. Batista is a thrown together match with 2 weeks of build, and I don't exactly have my hopes up that it will have an actual decision. It probably shouldn't have a decision. It's tough to read the Punk/JBL match. Punk did get the upper hand tonight, which is ominous. But that said, it's a bit of booze to the face of JBL compared to JBL pinning him last week, so I think Punk needs to get the actual win here. They are harping too much on Punk being a lame duck champ for him to simply lose the belt. Anyone care to clarify that mixed tag at SS? As in can Santino only win the IC title or can he somehow win the women's belt? Can Beth win the IC title? That match could be a lot of fun if they do it right, but they could potentially do something ultra dumb with it
  21. I was hoping for Jericho to end up in the title scene by Survivor Series. Do we really need to see him mess around with Shawn until freakin WM? As far as Sid coming back, well, until I see him on TV I will just write that off as some sort of sick joke.
  22. Thing is, VHS tapes used to be so ridiculously expensive on some movies for a while. Remember when a movie would come out with the insane 99.95 price? It was mostly for rentals, though over the years some big movies would come out and be under 20.00. Titanic was like that, wasn't it? Priced under 20.00 on its initial VHS release?
  23. Well, in that case I can see the logic in him not wanting to job. He and Diesel had just split as a team and obviously weren't going to tag again for a while, so just strip them of the belts. Having them team against whoever and then HBK walks again and leaves Nash to get beat only hurts Nash's heat going into the world title run they were going to do with him.
  24. I've quite enjoyed these Ortonless Raws of late and I am glad to (hopefully) not have to see him for another 3 months. Given what they did with Cena at the Rumble though I don't really 100% trust this story though.
