Andy Pettitte rejected a 1-year $10 million deal from the Yankees because he'd be taking a $6 million paycut. With all the money they tossed around this offseason, I'm sure they can scrape up a few million more to still make it happen.

Scoring and ball distribution aren't the only needs though. Even if Marbury does go to Boston and succeed, the lack of an effective big is a far more pressing matter. James Posey and PJ Brown were such effective bench players because they could hit the big shot and played great defense. Best case scenario, Marbury is half that.

Whatever gets you through the day, pal. In somewhat related news, the Boston media is preparing to give Stephon Marbury the Randy Moss treatment ("We can rebuild anybody, give him a chance!"). The Celtics bench as constituted is a significant weakness, but I don't really see how the Marburys and Alonzo Mournings of the world are going to be the solution.

He's not that good. But there's always a demand for QBs and I wouldn't be surprised to see someone give up a 2nd round pick for him. He's still young and will be playing for a long-term deal. Somebody will take a stab at him.

Funny- if Epstein hadn't been ducking out of Fenway's back exit in a gorilla suit, that Beckett/Lowell for Ramirez/Sanchez deal probably would've never happened, and yet both teams benefited.

I had to cheer Brett Favre for three hours and I almost killed myself. I don't know how you Packers fans did it.

There are the Yankees we know and love.

You also don't have to face teams with Sabathia, Burnett, Kazmir, Chamberlain, Wang, Halladay and Shields 18 times each year. The Yankees just added two marquee pitchers and the Rays just went to the World Series. The good feelings from winning two championships since 2004 should be gone; putting that lineup as it is currently constructed out on the field won't be good enough. If somehow the Sox land Teixeira, the worst they'd lose is Lowell and money. Money is clearly no object, and Teixeira is clearly leagues ahead of Lowell. I don't see why you wouldn't do it, especially since you've already shown your fans you're not going to spend more than you want to.

I haven't seen details, but there's a feeling out there that the Sox may end up flipping Lowell and some pitching for a catcher. I doubt they'd carry all four deep into the season if the Teixeira deal is done. These. Ortiz very may well start suffering from Mo Vaughn syndrome and there are still questions about Lowell's health. Considering the AL East is the toughest division in baseball and likely will be for a while, they need to improve their offense. Youkilis, Bay, Drew and Lowell are all #5-6 hitters at their best. Even if Ortiz comes back into peak form, they still need a cleanup hitter. Teixeira fulfills that role with no decline in defense, and they've got money to spend. The FO loves Teixeira, and we all know what happens when Theo gets a crush.

Joe Sheehan? Is that you?

Or Boras got his bluff called. I hope this ends soon; Boras vs. the Red Sox is getting old.

Celtics/Hawks have another thriller. Those two teams really fucking hate each other.

Claire with a shotgun may have been the lamest thing they've done all season. Right up until they decided they could send Daphne back and forth through time and chalked it up to Einstein.

Aww, now that post makes no sense. Hmpf.

Three pages, and we've already derailed the tournament. Pack it up, fellas. We're done here. Good show.

That man will pitch until he's dead.

Is Dwayne Wade really having an MVP season? THENETWORK! seems to think so, but I'm not really seeing it. He won't get consideration unless Miami starts playing above .500, but should he?

Trailer. Meh. Not enough Deadpool.

Which poster would you most like to hang out with?

KingPK; fellow TSMasshole, similar tastes in TV, sports, women, close in age, etc. Niskie, too, for similar reasons. Countdown is on 'til the "Which poster would you most like to fight?" thread. -
Probably because they see teams like the Marlins, Rays and Rockies, who have all sniffed or won a WS in recent history.
-
But these comparisons are ridiculous! Age, salary and injury history have nothing to do with baseball!

Gotta find a way to make up for freezing ticket prices somewhere.

Pretty underwhelming as far as Christmas episodes go- seemed really heavy on the Dwight talking heads. Toby buying the black doll was the highlight.
