  1. there are a lot of differences between the a's of 2001 and now. none of the pitchers were healthy then. plus, loaiza, who is probably the weakest starter in their rotation has won his game...with haren & harden up next....they won't lose.
  2. grady little being grady little.
  3. i can't stand any version of higher ground. its the complete opposite of livin for the city. damn, what a fine song. he did more in 7 mintues than most albums do in 40. wow.
  4. oddly, i have extremely pleasant memories of i just called to say i love you. i can't put ym figner on it, but i positively do love that song.
  5. i'm only on too high which is ok. i think stevie has been anthologized, eulagized, and covered so many times that a lot of his style has been lost on me. of course there are odd songs here and there which still spread my butter. your example of higher ground is very accurate as to why stevie is lost on me. i think i saw alicia keys cover higher ground once. i'd take anything the chili peppers do over that. except stadium arcadium.
  6. hey this is the one with livin for the city. oh, the best dirtbombs song.
  7. what can you do? it was on my ipod for a year & never listened. even have fatherinlaws stevie lps. ill give it a go, just for you. because you're going through so much shit in your life. you need to have someone there for you.
  8. hey, are you gonna be my girl was quite alright with this guy. seriously. why should i lie? i'd rather listen to that song than anything from the hold steady. or any other fashionable indie rock. i don't like pavement, either. quit judging me! don't care for stevie too much. whats wrong with me?
  9. i don't get indie rock. i'd rather listen to a jet album than most of it.
  10. Who makes a first post like that. Don't be naive. So this bears the question of "WHO FREAKIN CARES!?" leena
  11. he's nasty now. but of course, he can get wild at times. he's only 21 though. he can go almost three innings and shut down an offense. another reason i really like the tigers in the future is that they have both andrew miller & humberto sanchez waiting in the wings. both are touted as great top end starters. even jordan tata is supposed to be pretty deadly, too.
  12. honestly, how deep is the a's rotation? getting johan out of the way makes me think the a's will walk away with this series. they have a really impressive bullpen, too. stocked with guys who are good enough to start...and some who can close for street. this will be the a's year. it has to be the a's year. each year they've always rebounded from losing guys, but i don't know about next year.
  13. oh ya, detroit is toast. i don't think anyone expected them to win. i still desperately hope they do, but they won't. they'll be so good next year. be able to refine their gameplan more to leyland's liking. more contact hitters. we'll probably see robertson move, or someone like that. they have a great mix of guys to build around. polanco, guillen, granderson, and monroe are strong guys in the line-up. keeping magglio & rodriguez will help, too. the pitching was sorta overated from the beginning. none of them are a sure thing, especially verlander. but he'll be great in the next few years. their best pitcher is zumaya. edit: i don't think the yanks offense is too much for the tigers. they simply are experienced enough to make the tigers pay for their mistakes. had robertson gotten damon out in the 3rd inning with the dribbler, the inning would have been completely different. posada doesn't usually do much in the playoffs, either does matsui or arod. don't get me wrong, its a great line-up but i doubt its enough to compensate for their awful bullpen. this game should have been 8-1. not 8-4.
  14. ok.
  15. tigers are just too inexperienced. making simple mistakes. maybe with verlander, rogers, and hopefully bonderman throwing, they'll have a better showing. they did start with their 4th pitcher for whatever reason. who can be great, but usually is kinda shitty. and was tonight. how great is jeter?
  16. if harden is healthy, the twins are done. he has shown that he can be even better than zito. just too injury proned. haren is really great, too.
  17. robertson has tossed several gems this year. its not as though the tigers are walking blind into yankee stadium.
  18. reminded me of a cheeky counting crows album. words can't say how bored i was with how it sounded. i nearly fell asleep at the wheel. of course, in my near slumber i missed all of the lyrics which apparently are a whole lot more provocative than the music. doubt i'll revisit that bore. ps. i downloaded this because of pitchforks generous praise. when will i learn?
  19. zito can be amazing. he really can. but when he gets hit, he gets hit hard. i didn't see the game, but it sounds like it was one of thsoe special zito performances that he busts out every 5 or so starts.
  20. yanks bats have been known to fall asleep around this time of the year. but really, they do have the better offense. but if their pitching stinks, they'll lose.
  21. the tigers are being discarded because they are absolutely awful over the past two months. but they do have the weapons to win. outside of rivera, i have no faith in the yankees pitching. nor do i have any in the tigers. it'll come down to that.
  22. grossman got hurt on two fluke plays. anyone can get hurt like he got hurt. its nothing one should hold against them. grossman was throwing some perfect passes today. their vertical game is downright dangerous. the precision is that of a skilled veteran quarterback. granted he won't play like this every night, but to know he has the ability to do so is great to see.
  23. hey hotstuff, remember what you said about the bears last week? don't look impressive, eh? people, the bears could go about 9-0 to start the year. this team is for real. where's the other guy who told me that the falcons were more of contenders than the bears? the bears are the favorites in the nfc, but what about in the nfl? nobody has looked more impressive thus far. conversly, no one has looked worse than my poor raiders. possibly thw worst team in nfl history. win some, lose some.
  24. don't be quick to write off the a's. they've got the deepest staff in the league. the mere fact that they can decide between haren & harden in game three proves this. joe blanton is no slouch either. teams like the mets have trachsel & the yanks have cory lidle. seriously, people.
  25. without you is the song. and its great by nilsson. can't say i'm familiar oldham's version. or want to be. though i downloaded i see a darkness or whatever that album pitchfork gave 10.0 to is called.
