    Aliens v Predator 2

Mortal Kombat turned out great considering the material and Even Horizon was pretty good as well. I did laugh at "Hellraiser and Solaris into a blender", yeah that pretty much sums it up, but you could do a lot worse. Resident Evil was just boring and AVP was all kinds of bad. I'm not looking forward to AVP2, they've really sucked the magic out of both franchises, now it's just baddies killing teens in WalMart.

    John Carpenter deserves a thread

I find even his awful stuff watchable, even dreck like Ghosts of Mars. Cigarette Burns was great. Pro Life was just a riff on stuff he's already done, with a setting sure to piss some people off (not me) and some really bad FX. One of my favorite directors. Imaginitive, bleak and I enjoy his themes of isolation.

    For Your Consideration

I don't dislike Franklin but watching him get beat up is a lot of fun. I think it's the helpless doe-eyed look.

The Most Hyperbolic Three Paragraphs Ever

Gaffney is the same guy that wrote that Democratic Congressmen should be tried for treason for speaking out against the Iraq War. He's a special one.

    Watchmen

I have to agree that I suspect it won't translate into a movie well, especially not from the director of 300. It will probably end up being a fairly generic action movie.

NFL week twelve: Turkey Day Cliches

Please God let the Eagles win. I just want the undefeated talk to end.
  8. I don't think A-Rod will be booed much by Yankee fans. He never said or did anything particularly nasty. When the Yankees got him they knew they were chasing a guy who guys to the highest bidder - just like almost any other player these days. His last year with the club was his best and he had little to do with them sucking in the playoffs.

    The Writer's Strike

That guardian piece was stupid. Most shows have a team of writers. How the fuck are they going to retain copyright? What does it mean for a bunch of staff members (who come and go regularly) to retain copyright over the script of a show? Does that mean they own the characters they introduce? Do they own the plotlines? This has been a real issue in Comics where people do claim to own the characters they create and try to control them - total clusterfuck. Writers are one piece of a the puzzle in film and TV, they are not comparable to book writers at all. A book is the writing output of a writer, that's all it is. The writing output of a writer on a show is just part of the overall product. --- This strike is pretty simple overall. The networks are making money off of the work efforts of writers while paying ZERO. That's just silly.

    South Park: Season 11

The end was predictable from the first two minutes, the whole point was how fucking lame being good at video-game music is. That said, the end was still awesome.

    South Park: Season 11

The end was awesome but it was kind of weak overall. Too bad because I love the premise, I hate fake-music games.

NFL WEEK NINE!! All my exes live in Texas.

I'm not a huge Pats fan but the PI calls really did screw them over. There were two totally bogus calls and another called on the wrong side of the ball where the Colts player hugged the defensive back and still got the call. Pats didn't look very sharp but that made the game a lot closer than it deserved to be.

MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread

Holy shit that pic is awful. A couple people died recently from staph infection, it is serious business. Gyms need to get more vigilant about cleanliness.

    TUF VI: Welterweights

Serra is just a really good coach. He keeps his instructions simple, is very understandable and talks to guys like he is their best buddy. "You're breathing the whole time buddy - you're breathing the whole time!" He seems to be the only coach in TUF history that the fighters really listen to when they are in the ring. That probably also says something about the guys he picked. Hughes is just a prick who talks down to people, he is either yelling angrily at them or saying nothing, and he chose boneheads.

    South Park: Season 11

This is the best argument for a DVR I've seen. I need to get with the times. Also how high were they when they came up with these episodes? LOL. Although the Woodland Critters episode was pretty close as far as sheer fucked-up-ness. Edit: And here are the Woodland Critters...ha. Edit2: Was the death of Kyle from The Abyss?

    South Park: Season 11

I'm watching the first episode of Imaginationland right now - holy shit this is awesome. I fell like I should record it just to count all the wacky characters.

    TUF VI: Welterweights

Second round was 10-8, Dan just ran the whole time and looked out of it. He wasn't doing anything to really fight or protect himself for the most part, it was his best just to keep standing. Neither fighter impressed, Dan had a really strange style with a lot of awkward fakes, like he'd come in and fake a flying knee or some sort of shoulder BUTT really half-heartedly. Technique was awful. Classy of Serra to come to their room and make nice with Dan afterwards. Hughes of course has no class, never has, never will.

They don't teach baserunning in the NL do they? Arizona / Colorado was crazy with baserunning blunders and it looks like that is continuing.

I think Youkilis is going to die of a heart attack. He's been sweating bullets for weeks, and it's only like 50 degrees outside.

    2007 World Series

He was in the minors in 2001, in Moneyball I don't think the context was drafting him, it was just in player evaluation. But yeah, I guess 2001 to 2004 isn't really "a while." Maybe he seems like he's been around a while because even while he was in the minors he got a lot of mention. He was written about well before he became a major leaguer.

    2007 World Series

Youkilis has been around the minor leagues for a while, he was a big part of the book Moneyball. But yeah he's only been in the majors for 3 or 4 years.
