You're right, why drive for 20 minutes to and from work, when you could walk there for over 4 hours there and back! Yeah, I'll pass. In addition to living 20 miles away from my office, my office is located just east of downtown Houston and let's just say that I'd rather not risk it. "Walk you fatties." Pfft. I might consider it if it were that simple. And for Eric: As someone who has only driven trucks since I got my license, I don't care how much more fuel efficient any vehicle might currently be, I'm still going to drive my truck. My beef with the gas prices has nothing to do with having to buy twice as much gas than a hybrid or anything, but rather with the fact that there is NO real reason why gas prices keep climbing, except for simple greed. I know my vehicle of choice means I have to buy more fuel, but I'm willing to deal with it. Find me a hybrid pickup that gets "100% better" fuel efficiency while still giving me all the towing power, cargo room, and cabin space that I currently enjoy, and I might think about switching.

There has been little discussion of it around these parts, so I'd have to figure that it's ok. I think the Astros have lifted the 80-90 pitch limit they had for him when he first came back, so I guess they feel it's fine. I think the key to that one was that he hurt it while swinging the bat and not on the mound.

One thing no one has mentioned is that Wade Miller left the game last night for the Astros complaining of stiffness in his neck, which is the same thing that caused him to miss eight or nine starts last year. He says it's nothing serious and that he won't miss a start, but I think it might be worth keeping an eye on.

I didn't see Alou get tossed. I had to turn it off after the top of the 4th and get some sleep. It's always great to see Moises go nuts though because he always seems so calm and collected. I also agree with you about things settling down once the Cubs get back home. I look at it this way: the Cubs are hanging in there, with a depleted team. The Astros have no injuries to speak of, and are playing about as well as they possibly can (against a relatively weak schedule). They WILL cool off, and when they do, I think the Cubs' window opens...particularly if Woody isn't out long and Prior comes back very strong. I can't believe Farnsworth actually managed to throw an entire scoreless inning while walking only one guy last night. He must really like LA.

Yeah, 90 pitches against an all right-handed Houston lineup that has been mashing the ball all year. Truly a gem.

Wow. Keep the Marlins' bullpen out of the game and you've got a recipe for success. Come on Cubbies...here's your chance to somehow only be 2 games back of the Astros, despite them playing as well they possibly can. Don't blow it.

Heh. A buddy of mine, who could only be described as an uber-environmentalist, has a Prius. We were going to lunch one day and he was demonstrating the fancy, unnecessary digital gizmos in the dash, one of which calculates the engine's fuel efficiency and gas mileage. His MPG was calculated at 33.6, which is only about twice what my big old gas hoggin' Dodge gets. I asked him what the point of buying a car that gets only marginally better MPG than a similar-sized "normal" car and has only half the power. He kinda stuttered for a bit before saying, "Well, it IS better."

I'd rather see Michael Irvin get fired. I'm a Cowboys fan and I can't stand him.

*raises hand* I need something to entertain me for the rest of the day at work.

Zambrano is not better than Wood. Maybe someday, but not yet. Cubs can't win it without Woody, so I hope whatever this is isn't serious. They've done well to be where they are with Prior gone, but they ain't going anywhere without Woody, even if Prior were to come back guns blazing.

The great data-erasing bug in No Mercy (N64) bit me 3 times and pissed me off more each time because I had gotten further in story mode each time. That's probably the worst one I've had affect me. My All-Star Baseball 2000 game used to have problems adding up stats correctly as a season went on, but I don't know if that's the result of a bug or just a deteriorating cart battery or something.

Did I just see that Raul Mondesi is going to sit out the rest of the season for "personal reasons?" Anyone know if this might be related to his legal dispute earlier, or is it the fact that he's unhappy because he plays for the Pirates?

Whew. Fantastic win for the Cubs. I can't believe Patterson actually came through in the 13th. Thank God they won that game; would have been tough to take a loss in a game like that. Thank God also for the off day tomorrow. They definitely need it after today.

Data entry was good for me because I didn't have to deal with dumbass people all the time, as opposed to when I worked in a secrearial-type job where I had to do all the data entry stuff in addition to answering the phone and helping all the morons that came into the office. The other bad thing about that job was that my boss's desk was right behind me so I couldn't even screw around on the net.

I don't post much now and it's free, so it's very doubtful that I'd pay to post.

Walker and Patterson swinging at pitches way out of the zone to end the game...wtf? Cubs need to think a little more whilst at the plate.

Ok, what is with Pitino and the "______'s not walking through that door" gag? Bill Simmons has referenced it a time or two, and I've seen it here (amongst other places), but being a Houston resident I don't get the joke. What exactly happened?
-
Damn. Cubs took the wood to Shawn Estes in the 2nd inning. Hopefully Zambrano can cruise now. 6-0 Cubs after 2.

No, no, too early to tell, and no.
-
Damn right, Choken. There was just about zero drama at the end because you just KNEW Rachel would come back. Guess they didn't want to risk pissing off the fanbase. Thumbs up show on the whole, but the ending was pretty lame.

Blah blah blah...all the Friends hate. You guys bash a show that you admittedly don't watch but then get your panties in a bunch when someone bashes the Simpsons for not being as great as it once was. I don't understand it. Anyway, I'll be watching this finale. I haven't watched Friends regularly in a few years, but I was hooked for the first five or six years so I gotta see how it ends.

Clemens passes Carlton for 2nd place. The victim: Raul Mondesi.
-
Clemens just tied Carlton for second on the all-time strikeout list.
-
Yep, and what makes it even worse is that the Cubs caught a huge break with the phantom out call on Rolen. Get a free out and then lose like that...pretty tough to take.
-
Well yeah, maybe. But losing the opener, at home, to the Texans didn't help them either.
