Yeah, I agree. It wouldn't be so bad if the sole purpose behind them wasn't to start the 500th debate over how evil gay marriage is or how many meals Bush has taken out of children's mouths with his tax cuts. I DO wish someone would discuss John Kerry's military history. I've heard he served, but I don't know which war it was in.

Question: when Iverson loses a bit of his quickness and can no longer dribble past folks, is he even a NBA-caliber player? Seriously, I wonder. His shooting percentage is terrible (and seemingly getting worse), and he's not a particularly good defender...what's left? Why would you have him on your team if he can't beat any off the dribble and shoots 3-20 each night?

Aren't webcam whores great?
-
Well, that and the fact that you have to take out a large loan just to afford playing for more than half an hour or so. I've seen one or two games for $2 a turn...that shit ought to be illegal.

Another thing: why the Devil Rays, big, bad ambassadors of the game they are? Why not Seattle? Ichiro vs. Matsui! Plus, the Mariners are a better team than Tampa, and you'll be more likely to get a competitive pair of games. Oh, and, one more thing: how are they doing the rosters for this game? Teams haven't made all their final cuts yet, but the Yanks and D-Rays are supposed to play a regular season game? How's that work?

I hate Calvin Murphy. He's much too annoying. But THIS is pretty freakin' disturbing. What makes me wonder now: Murphy used to be sort of a "youth sports director" for the City of Houston a few years ago, in charge of running some after-school basketball programs for kids or whatnot. What happened behind those closed doors, I wonder...

Hell no. It starts at 4 a.m. here. I get up at 5 (and not a moment earlier) every day, but unfortunately, have to get dressed and go to work. Perhaps I'll have it on in the background for a whole 20 minutes or so. And may I just say how fucking RETARDED it is to have the start of the season in Japan. Selig has lost his mind on this one. I just cannot see how it's a good thing, making two teams travel all the way over there, play two games that count and then fly back to continue their exhibition seasons. Stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

I've been considering getting a cell phone for a few weeks now, but strictly for emergencies only. I've started to do a lot more traveling around lately, plus I am not much of a phone talker, nor do I aspire to become one of those stupid assholes who talk on their damn phone ALL THE TIME. T-Mobile has a package for $20 a month (60 anytime minutes) and that's the one I'm leaning towards at the moment. Cingular has one for $30 with more minutes, but there's almost zero chance of me needing more than 60 minutes, so I can't see much point in spending the extra $10. A question I do have though, and have forgotten to ask any of the sales reps I've talked to, is what about coverage areas? All the companies have maps drawn with shaded coverage areas, but what about all the areas designated as "No Coverage." Do you get slammed with extra charges for being in those areas, or do the phones just not work in those areas, period?

Fantastic. A whole week of Vitale jumping up and down screaming, "Duke, baby! Duke!" The Duke/UConn game should be a whole lot of fun, though. I do find it funny that for all the pains that the Tournament committee has gone through to avoid having the supposed "top" teams play in the national semi's instead of the championship game, and we get (IMO) the best two teams left playing Saturday instead of on Monday. HA.

Oh, if they insist on changing the OT format, then field goals should definitely NOT be allowed at all. In fact, do away with extra points, too; make it only touchdowns and two-point conversions. I could probably live with that.
-
That's pretty funny.

Nah, Warner's gonna be the one that gets cut. His cap figure is too large to keep around, and it's pretty questionable whether he'll ever be an effective QB anymore. Bulger has at least shown he's competent, though I doubt they'll go back to the Super Bowl with him.

Bad idea. I despise the "equal opportunity" overtime system, for the simple reason that you often end up with multiple overtimes and a ridiculous amount of scoring. What was a 17-17 game at the end of regulation ends up being 52-45, which is absurd. Ever see that 7-OT college game (I don't remember which teams were playing)? It's stupid. You have sixty fucking minutes to win the game. True, there is a chance you might never get the ball in OT, but you know what? DEFENSE IS PART OF THE GAME. If you can't play it for one measley OT possession, you probably don't deserve to win anyway. All this PC "everybody gets an equal shot" bullshit drives me insane. It's almost as bad as the youth sports leagues where they don't even keep score. I'm in favor of replay, but they've GOT to do something about the insane amount of time the referees sit under the hood looking at replays. Just make your decision and be done with it. Stopping the game for five minutes for a replay just kills any momentum and flow that has built up. Agreed. 14 is too many. Besides, when was the last time the second or third wild-card from a conference went to the Super Bowl? Oh, that's right...never. Agreed again. There was nothing wrong with the Rams' Bob-N-Weave, TO's Sharpie thing, or most of the other dances. I saw draw the line at planting props before the game, however (Joe Horn, I'm looking at you). That was stupid.

I've decided I'm voting for Ralph Nader.

No, Pennsylvania I think. HIS Pitt Panthers choked it tonight, I know that. -
Huh. Seems kind of an odd move, what with Prior starting the year on the DL and all. I guess they really got tired of his control problems. Anyone know anything about Andy Pratt and/or Richard Lewis? I've never heard of them.

How many wins did Carter lead the 'Boys to with the game on the line? He made several bad decisions down the stretch, and looked totally lost against Carolina in the playoffs. And what makes you think Parcells had a lot of confidence in Carter? His other option was Chad Hutchinson, whom he hates (and who sucks). Who else was there? Just because Carter was playing doesn't mean Parcells was that happy about it - it could just mean that Carter was the cream of a sorry crop. Dillon would help, if he behaves himself, not only from actually giving the Cowboys a bona fide running game, but would also help to take some of the pressure off of Carter, thus (theoretically) improving his performance. You don't need a superstar QB to win a Super Bowl, I agree; there hasn't been a team WITH a superstar QB win it since Denver's last SB-winning team (Kurt Warner's apparent flash-in-the-pan success makes him a questionable "superstar") five years ago. I'd still be very, very surprised if the Cowboys ever win a Super Bowl with Carter running the show, however. His accuracy isn't all that great, and he doesn't read defenses very well. He has the physical tools to play at the NFL level (arm strength, foot speed, etc.), but I'm not sure he gets it mentally. They definitely fucked up by drafting him in the second round; nobody had him ranked that high, and they probably still could have got in the fifth round. He hasn't lived up to being drafted that high, that's for sure. Don't get me started on the receivers. That's a whole other issue, however. Good riddance to Galloway.

Ha ha...yeah. My dad used to work for the DEA. He got (involuntarily) transferred to NYC in late 1995, but instead of going he told them to fuck off and resigned. My parents got audited, for tax year 1995, the very next year despite never having been audited before, nor having any "unusual" business filed in their return. Funny how the random chance of an audit hit them that year. It still amazes us to this day. What a coincidence. (The actual audit found nothing incriminating, btw; it was just a huge pain in the ass for my parents to deal with.)

Henson played 8 games at Michigan. How the hell can anyone say what kind of pro prospect someone is going to be after 8 games? Are you mad? Carter isn't good at all. Did you watch him the last half of this past season? He was awful. 17 TD's versus 21 INT's and you say he's been playing "just fine." Crikey. I'd hoped the Cowboys would avoid Henson altogether, since he has "Chad Hutchinson Version 2.0" written all over him. However, the money they gave him isn't overwhelming, and only had to give up a third round pick next year for him, so I guess it's worth a shot. Certainly no worse than what they have now at QB, for sure.
-
Can't speak for Choken, but I'll take a spot on that bandwagon if there's any left. Pitt is my lone Final Four team remaining.
-
Shit. I give up. I nailed 27 of the first round games, but now have only half of the Sweet 16, in addition to losing 3 of my Final Four teams. What a finish to that UAB/Kentucky game, though. Wow.
-
I had Gonzaga getting bounced in the second round. Only problem is, I had Michigan State doing the bouncing. Maybe now some folks will realize that winning the West Coast Conference means dick.
-
Over-rated! Over-rated! The Big 10 was garbage this year. I have no idea why Wisconsin was getting all this hype as a "Final Four darkhouse" and such. They deserved the 6 seed they got.
-
I know there's little chance of it happening, and it would completely wreck my Midwest bracket, but I hope Florida A&M pulls it out over Kentucky. The reality of seeing a 16 finally beat a 1 (and the 'overall' 1 seed, especially) would be really, really great.
-
Fuck you, Michigan State. My office pool bracket was 11/11 until they BLEW that game. Come on DePaul, UNC, Arizona, and Gonzaga. I'll take 15/16 for Day 1.
