Did you hit it?

It NEVER matters what kind of talent Duke has; they get ranked in the Top 5 in the first poll regardless of how they finished the previous year, or who exactly they have coming back. Damn near every freshman Coach K recruits is some sort of basketball god, and is hyped incessantly as such. I get sick of it. If Duke ends up being a really great team this year, then I will be more than happy to come back here and eat my words then. Until that day, however, Duke is overrated, as usual. Duke is to college basketball what Notre Dame is to college football - at the first sign that they might have any sniff of success in a given year, they're immediately pushed high up the polls and forced down our throats. Personally, I think there should be no polls in any college sports until at least 4 weeks of a season has gone by. (NOTE: I might be biased, given my own personal disdain for both programs I mentioned.)

Didn't you "quit arguing" with Mike a week ago because he asked you to provide just one shred of proof to support your idiotic statements and, when you couldn't (or wouldn't) do that, called us all ignorant and vowed to leave this folder forever? Aren't you that guy? ... Thought so.

And the Coach K blowjob continues...

Dude, I think you should read the pinned thread at the top of this forum.

Anyone, and I mean anyone, who buys a PSL is a fucking idiot. They deserve any financial hardship that might result from throwing that few grand away. When the Houston Texans were just starting to sell tickets a couple of years ago, all the proceeds from PSL's were supposed to go to help defray the Texans' part of the cost of building Reliant Stadium (which was only about 20% of the total cost, btw). There was actually a sportswriter for the Houston Chronicle, Dale Robertson, who wrote an article about season tickets and PSL's for the Texans, telling the citizens of Houston that we actually owed it to Bob McNair (Texans' owner) to buy all the PSL's, because he had spent $1 billion of his own money to give us another NFL team and stadium and that we should be grateful, "because of Mr. McNair's generosity"we were no longer a "black hole" in the NFL's landscape, and an embrassment of a city because we didn't have an NFL team. I couldn't believe he actually had the gall to write that. We, as fans, owe those overpaid millionaire assholes NOTHING, especially since all they care about is us showing up to their games and giving them our money.

So? He never said he wanted to retire. He just said he was ready to be treated like a human being. What's the big deal?

The town where I grew up produced Shaun Rogers, Detroit Lions defensive tackle. The town where I went to high school has never produced a quality athlete of any kind. The town where I currently live can claim David Boston. There might be others, but damned if I know who they are.

The Expos have value??? Whoa... Actually, I doubt Vlad stays. First off, why would all the other owners pony up some dough to pay a guy whatever obscene amount he'll get to play AGAINST their own teams, while getting little financial return on that investment? Secondly, why would Vlad stay? He might not like the big markets (if that's even true), but there are plenty of other places he can go, stay under the radar for the most part, win some games, and still get paid plenty of cash, all without having to play 100+ games on the road each year. There really is no incentive for him to stay there; I know I wouldn't.

Your tax dollars at work, huh? A lot of the whiny Astros' fans here are bitching because Drayton McLane won't raise the payroll above its current $70-75 mil threshold, despite giving him Orange Juice Train Park 4 years ago. He promised to spend more money and make them a winner if he got it and hasn't really done so, and it's starting to piss a lot of people off. All teams do it, though; they just want their new parks so they can jack up ticket prices.

Yes, of course 15,000 in a 40,000 seat stadium looks better than in a 65,000 seat stadium. No one ever said otherwise and they'd be a damn fool to try. I was just saying that Marvin's contention that 38,000 is "small" is a little off-base specifically because of the fact that the Marlins only draw 15,000 a game. A stadium that "small" is preferable when your fans hardly ever fill it up. The Marlins have got to get out of Pro Player because it isn't really a baseball park (though I do like watching the outfielders chase balls down in that HUGE outfield) and because of the fact that it's embarrassing to have to see that many empty seats all the time.
-
Why build a 40,000+ seat stadium if no one is going to go to the games? It isn't as if the Marlins have ever had record-setting attendance or anything. Hell, the only time they've ever averaged more than 30,000 a game was in their first year, 1993. What is the appeal of having such a big stadium if at least 10-15,000 of the seats sit empty every night? It looks terrible.

Identity. I love that movie.

Torre isn't going to be fired while the Red Sox job is open, if at all. Steinbrenner is more than aware that Boston doesn't have a manager and he also knows that Boston would probably love the chance to hire Torre if he became available. Torre in a Red Sox uniform ain't gonna happen. I'm not a Red Sox fan in any way, and I certainly don't claim to know a lot of the public perception or have any great level of knowledge about the Sox, but I too think that firing Grady is going to end up being a mistake. 90+ wins in two years is nothing to sneeze at, and the job he apparently did keeping a couple of the me-first guys they have on that team in check for the most part is quite an accomplishment. Sure, not taking Pedro out was a big mistake that ultimately cost them a trip to the Series. But guess what? Dusty Baker left both Prior and Wood in the game too long and it cost his team the NLCS. I haven't heard a large public outcry of "Fire Dusty!" that the Red Sox Nation is putting up over Little. Shouldn't Baker be fired, too, by your logic? No. That would be ridiculous. Baker took the Cubs further than they've been since WWII. Grady Little took the Red Sox to within 5 outs of the World Series, a place they haven't been in 17 years. Who else got that much out of a Boston team? Jimy Williams got sort of close...but that's it. Managers DO make mistakes sometimes. It happens. Nobody is perfect. Besides, who's to say that if Little does make a move to the pen that they don't blow up and lose the game anyway?

In the 80's? Shit, there was such a bathroom in the Nursing/Math building at my school until 1999, when the university fuzz set up a sting and busted 13 gay guys. Our school was a laughingstock for a few months, as seemingly every person I ran into had heard about it.

I thought you were leaving this folder since we're all "ignorant" and "can't acknowledge facts." That sure didn't last long....

You evidently aren't the only one: 'Skin,' 'Joe Millionaire' fall flat among Monday viewers Associated Press NEW YORK -- Even if you caught only a few innings of postseason baseball on Fox, you likely saw promos for Skin and the new season of Joe Millionaire. Despite the heavy promotion, both series premieres flopped Monday, each drawing fewer than 7 million viewers. "We're disappointed," said Gail Berman, Fox entertainment president. "I wish I knew what happened last night." Joe Millionaire was last winter's surprise hit, with viewers drawn to the twist of women chasing an eligible man they were fooled into thinking was rich. The series' final episode was watched by 40 million viewers in February. Despite many people considering the Joe Millionaire premise a one-shot joke, Fox ordered a sequel. It has the same twist, but this time features European women. It was seen by an estimated 6.6 million people Monday, placing fifth in its time slot, according to Nielsen Media Research. Even the WB, with 7th Heaven, fared better. "It's not believable," said Marc Berman, a television analyst for Media Week Online. "How many people out there really believe these women don't know what this show is?" Fox is sticking with it, though it clearly won't be the phenomenon it was in its first incarnation, Fox's Berman said. Skin was the bigger disappointment. The drama about a relationship between a pornographer's daughter and a district attorney's son was seen by 6.5 million people -- less than the premiere of last season's girl's club, which was canceled after two episodes. By contrast, Fox drew more than 20 million people to three of its baseball games in the past weeks, peaking with the 27.5 million who watched the seventh game of the Yankees-Red Sox playoff series. The Skin showing was perplexing to many in the TV business because the show drew generally good reviews and received a massive push during uncommonly popular baseball series. Fox will air the show a second time later this week and keep Skin in its Monday time slot. The Fox entertainment president noted another new Fox drama, The O.C., started slow and built its audience. "We're experiencing a taste of what all the other networks are facing this fall," she said. "It's tough to reach this young adult audience." ----------------------- I don't know if the lack of a Joe Millionaire audience is surprising or not. I thought it would do ok, but I guess people realize it's a one-shot deal. As for Skin, well, I can't say I'm not a little happy. They've been hyping that show too much.
-
I agree with you. Skin would probably work better as a mini-series. If I have to hear that guy yell "His father is the district attorney!!!" just one more time, I think I'm gonna have to firebomb Fox headquarters. Dear God that pisses me off.

You got a few hours? It's incredibly complicated. Certainly more than I'm sure we care to dive into here, especially given my limited knowledge of the ins-and-outs of it. There's probably a website somewhere that explains it.

I'd pay good money to see that. A $30 PPV sounds about right.

Since there's yet another one of these threads, I've decided that this name really, really sucks. Could I please have: sfaJack Thanks.

O'Donnell works. I had forgotten that the Titans let him go.

1. Denver would have to trade for him. The trade dealine has already passed. Henson would probably come at a somewhat steep price as well, and probably one that is far too great to pay when you just need a fill-in QB until Plummer comes back in a few weeks (unless he's out for the year....did I miss something?). 2. Henson hasn't played football for nearly three years now. Not only is he probably not in "football shape," but he's rusty as well. You couldn't throw him out there with just a week's prep time. That'd be insane. I don't believe Kent Graham is currently on anyone's roster. He's better than Danny freakin' Kanell, and would make a decent fill-in until Plummer gets back.

And oh man, if Grady Little had taken Pedro out, Boone never would have hit that homer either. (Yes I know Red Sox Nation has beaten Little's carcass into the ground over it...I just couldn't help saying it.)
