Edge injured; out of action for undetermined length of time
uhftv replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
I dontthink the titles mean anything anymore and having 3 big ones for all the shows and every ppv has already watered it down even more. All the changes for the SD title makes it look weak although it does crate more top guys, which is what TNA has tried to over the last year I think. They jumped the gun with the Kennedy injury and it worked out well except for him. When Dave got injured he kept working as champ minimally until he got injured again where he had to drop the title. I thought it was lame to do a battle royal to become champ back then and it's still lame now. I think if Edge is presumed out 4 mos. they could have gone max maybe 2 and half mos. without wrestling. The titles dont mean anything to ratings or live events so as long as they have stars on the show, no one would care if the title wasnt defended or if you had the same stars but now you cant even remember all 3 title matches on all the ppvs. They should have kept it with Edge or done something with Nitro but they didnt. Nitro has/had no credibility as a champ because of the weird circumstances as how he won it and also because it's for a crappy show with only 10 guys in it, half of which are losing jobbers anyway, so having a champ there makes as much sense as a HEat or Velocity world champion. Edge seemed to be someone who heeded the Wellness policy since he's the only one who seemed to slim down over the last 2 years and has stayed that way. I jus saw the Ladder Match dvd and he was huge compared to now in the 1st MITB, but was smaller by the time he cashed it in. Steroids are supposedly helpful in muscle growth and injuries recovery and pain if you're larger but not for tears involving tendons and ligaments. So Edge seems to be injury prone either way. He also seemed to be the only guy the last 5 years who was moved to the top where you didnt think "that's exactly the type of guy who I expect wwe to push" before and since. Basically I'm saying having the title vacant or dormant is less damaging then all these title switches. -

What Would It Take You To Stop Watching WWE Programming

The swiftly approaching day when Snisky and Khali headline a ppv in separate matches. The ppvs have been pretty atrocious after Backlash with the tribranded stuff As for the tvs, both have been consistently bad after WM and the got worse after both shows decided to get rid of their worst workers using the DRAFT. I think they keep fans longer by not watching consistently. -

Dave mentions the Mark Henry interview at the end of his rant, noting that he'll probably get in trouble for it, for actually suggesting that other wrestlers actually have drugs or do drugs when "the locker room's clean!! the policy works!!" -

Finlay totally punked out Bryan Alveraz on Nancy Grace about getting around the drug testing. That was awesome. -

WWE-sponsored gas station in Delaware. He said Ephedrine and I see it at gas stations everywhere with other generic fat burners. Ephedra was banned a couple of years back though, yea. what's the difference? Shouldnt they both be banned? One is the name of the plant and the other is what's extracted from the plant. Somebody show me where these gas stations are!! -

Find any old OVW show with matches involving KEN ANDERSON. That guy's huge. Hit the gym Kennedy!! Odd that Kennedy attacks Graham who's the least offensive on these shows and really tries to deflect any wwe bashing. And what year does Kennedy live in where he can buy ephedra at any gas station? edit: Keller posted a good response here: http://www.pwtorch.com/artman/publish/article_20941.shtml -

OReilly looked 70 years old in that clip from 2002. Linda looked the same as most cyborgs would. I dont understand the point of that clip since it didnt have anything to do with... anything unless they wanted to prove that nothing ever changes in wrestling. Maybe they pulled out at the last minute, since the rest of the show was live so it would be pointless unless Bill needed a long bathroom break. I'd like to believe Matt Hardy too but I dont know about guaranteeing his generation will have less deaths in the future than the previous one. And saying that older wrestlers speaking out now for fame is "not cool." But what is cool is any wrestler now who defends wwe. I'd think they would have as much of an agenda as the ones who bash them. You're not gonna get anything negative from anyone under 40 even if theyre no longer wrestling, just look at CHIROPRACTIC SHAWN STASIAK, youll jus get other people in trouble and its a coworker thing. I dont think anyone thats speaking out, even the worst ones, have a horrible selfserving agenda, it's just a matter of drawing attention to things that they dont want attention on. Back in 2005 Piper did that interview about drugs and steroids etc he never badmouthed wwe he jus spoke of the environment and how hard it is and they fired him because wwe decided from the interview that he was 'miserable' so he should go out and do something else. The stuff with the guys associated with Astin, I think theyll just ignore it like before. The big sting operation a few months back had wrestlers associated with it and there was a brief flurry of statements and that was it. Theyre ok as long as the injury/prescription loophole still stands. -

last week they had some kind of clip show on larry's 50 years in the business or whatever and they show him with all these famous people and alot of what he gets is because its really a softball show which is how he gets the big exclusive interviews. he has the rep for not going for the big hardhitting questions but from the clips you wouldnt know that. like the stuff about steroids with hogan and when he asked bret about owen. his show is so harmless that he slips in a pretty good question toally nonsequitir but that makes all the clips makin him look like a hard hitting newsman so he's not an asshole but that's the show you go on when you want to come off looking really good. It was reported that Mero WAS supposed to be on King with his tagpartner Blackman but they told him to hit the road, and he ended up only being on Nancy Grace and Abrams an hour later. But still wwe very LAME pulling him off the show. Anyone who saw Larry knows the whole show was a total wwe lovefest. There was an awesome part in the Nancy Grace show where Konnan calls out "guy with the beard, he's a fukin moron" Best Nancy Grace show ever. -

Unless Umaga is right behind Linda I'd suggest canceling her appearance on OReilly And they should show footage of her and Kane for no reason. -
Extreme Expose' talkin about how hot the Miz is is the most disgusting promotional tactic of the last 5 years. Im more offended by that and it's lack of realism; I can handle faux 10 bell salutes more than that. Maybe if he hit "the gym" once in a while.

Saw Lanny Poffo on Fox news around the same time. He does a pretty good promo and said some intelligent things. But clean shaven he looks jus like JBL. Debra was on again, nothing new from her. Best part was they kept callin him Larry and he kept correcting them. Last week he was on and they called him Lenny Roffo and he yelled out MY NAME IS LANNY POFFO. Awesome. -

That was an AWESOME fight on Nancy Grace. EVERYONE should check out the replay. Seemed too good to be a work as Mero and Blackman were always on the same show for the past 10 days getting along, and suddenly Mero does this GREAT heel turn on Steve. But he's not really a heel he was jus egging him on. And Blackman really lost it yelling STOP CUTTIN ME OFF!!, best emotion in Blackman I've ever seen, much better than, say Bobby Lashley. Also saw Mero AGAIN an hour later (but no Blackman) on msnbc and Meltzer was on. Dave actually got to speak for once without sounding so twitchy and jittery, Mero brought up again his LIST OF DEATH, and they spoke about the weird lookin doctor lookin like an old Dr. Phil (and his name really is DR. Phil which is awesome) and the speculation on the Benoit life insurance policy story that's been floatin around. -

I've heard alot of shows with people talking about the tribute Raw and how Regal's comments were the oddest at first viewing but in hindsight make the most sense, as he was almost hinting that he knew something. He may have been the other guy to receive a text and with all this talk of GHB it's even ODDER to think that Regal got his wwe second chance coming back from his drug problems by having that great match at the Pillman show with Benoit. -

Ive NEVER seen so much wrestling on the news ever. Better coverage than yesterday though. Very odd caller on Nancy Grace asks about foul play and the "expert" says it's highly unlikely, but didnt rule it out. Then another 'expert' says that 'we don't know if the wife killed the son' since the timeline of the deaths has been inconsistent and indeterminate. The other 'expert' barely ekes out an answer before they run out of time saying most likely Chris wouldve done both, but did agree the time lapse with the 2 murders isnt consistent (as to which came first). This show is the worst with a million graphics and she tries to balance 5 people taling while cutting them off every 7 seconds AND still takin calls and breaks. Was hilarious seeing Jericho explain the 3 different shows to her like she's a child. He actually starts cuttin a promo after a verbal spat she had with a guest saying "I really enjoyed that little repartee' you jus had there.." Melter barely could get a word in edgewise on Scarborough Country, as you know with his hyper jittery way of talking (and writing) and the host kept cutting to Marc Mero like he was the wisest of them all. (Mero had painted eyebrows and looked weird, very dragqueenish) Steve Blackman was also on the phone, he came off fine but kind of nonchalant and wasnt even around that much longer when Benoit came into the company. Chyna also had way too much screentime on Greta Van Susteren and they even cut Bret Hart off the line jus to talk only to her and she was clearly zonked and said nothing, with the best line being she never took steroids. The same with Debra Mcmichael on Hannity & Colmes, getting more time than Superstar Billy Graham, so maybe these shows are courting the androgynous demographic. All of these show are replayed 2 to 3 times all night. Im pretty sure I saw Nancy Grace's snout 3 times today so if you miss futute viewings there always another chance. The FACTOR was also on 3 times. This was another bad one, all I remember was he had Geraldo who went TOTALLY NUTS about the wikipedia thing (just minutes after Meltz explained it all) saying it was a huge conspiracy and they have to subpoena all wwe computers who may have posted that. Then he went nuts AGAIN cause he thought Sherri died the same day and not 2 weeks ago, and said she was a manager of Sullivan who was married to Nancy, and that "all these people run in the same circle, a big circus, but the wikipedia yarrghhh" That was a real quote. Oreilley jus blows him off. Probably the most annoying thing all the shows had in common is they spend half the show covering this, brush the guests off, then make a big smile to the camera and push the next segment about Paris Hilton. -

this all just makes me sick to my stomach -
God forbid somebody actually could beat Lashley for the title. It takes 3 men to get the belt from him. THREE. 2 of which are old dudes that arent wrestlers. And I like how it meant so much to get the belt back from Vince and he just relinquishes it no problem.

It's surprising this came from USA's insistence, since they should no better than anyone that the big ratings boom in '99 and 2000 pre-Spike tv had nothing to do with crash tv. All that stuff was done in '97 and '98 and they usually lost to Nitro. Whether you think it's tasteless or not, I think it's the same old "nothing to do with wrestlers or wrestling" deal, and if they go totally over the top with bad acting at least it's more tolerable. But then you go from 'using real life tragedy to get over lame storyline' to making fun of death ina lame way.' The equivalent would be the stuff they did with that ref that owned the bar that kept killing himself and having all the shows center around that. It's boring as shit. It's another of those things that make you feel bad for the live audience. What happened to the glory days of tasteful angles like Rosie vs Donald?

I understand the whole this is fake and stupid stuff. But when they do things like appearing on the ramp and having bell salutes, those things are associated with real deaths in wrestling and having wrestlers break character. It's stupid to emulate that. If it was a lesser character like Teddy long originally, and what a horrible year 2005 was for Smackdown as I remember, I could buy into the stupidness. But doing any of that tribute stuff is lame. Even the Al Wilson stuff was done minimally. When Vince really dies, I'm going to think about what a horrible actress Stephanie is when she speaks. and the stuff about comparing wwe to other fiction on tv is like something wwe themselves say when they're criticized. "It's all fake come on guys, jus gimme your money and enjoy it" If you can buy into the story without the tastelessness, I'd rather see a serial bomber-type story rather than a who killed Vince? story. They'd have to blow up Titan Towers though.
