Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted May 28, 2003 The Day I Tried to Live - Soundgarden A definite favourite of mine also. I have trouble selecting a favourite album actually, I'm a sucker for 'Louder than Love' although the others are clearly streets ahead of it. In the time I've owned them, 'Badmotorfinger' has been my favourite for the longest period, I think. What the hell, I'll listen to superunknown again just cos it's been a while. I think 'Down On The Upside' was VASTLY underrated btw, especially from a technical standpoint. You?
Guest ElectricRaccoon Report post Posted May 29, 2003 Good to see Primus getting some props. My top five Primus songs would be: 5. Over the Falls 4. Mr. Krinkle 3. Toys Go Winding Down (or, better yet, Toyz 1988. Considering it was Les Claypool, Jay Lane and Todd Huth, I think Sausage can be counted as Primus, more or less.) 2. Eclectic Electric 1. John the Fisherman And overall, for at least the next ten minutes: 5. The Flaming Lips - "The Gash (Battle Hymn for the Wounded Mathematician)" 4. Sloan - "I Am The Cancer" 3. Leonard Cohen - "Who By Fire" 2. Neil Young - "Thrasher" 1. Beck - "Asshole"

I think 'Down On The Upside' was VASTLY underrated btw, especially from a technical standpoint. You? I'd just give the edge to Badmotorfinger overall. Aside from the obvious songs like 'Jesus Christ Pose' & 'Mind Riot' the album just has a great balance between riff heavy stuff and the shorter faster songs. 'Somewhere' is one of my favourite Soundgarden songs as well, it reminds me of the way 'Country Feedback' stands out as a centrepiece track on REM's Out Of Time for some reason. My top 5 songs at the moment........ American English - Idlewild My Brain Hurts - Screeching Weasal Sad But Familiar - Lou Ford Waterloo Sunset - The Kinks There's No Life Without Love - The Kinks Idlewild are decent rather than amazing at this point but occasionally they can rise above the mediocrity, 'American English was one of the better singles last year IMO. I'm loving Something Else By The Kinks at the moment, they're easily up with the Beatles as far as my favourite 60's pop groups go. I'd recommend something like The Heavy Blinkers s/t second album as far as modern 60's influenced pop goes.

Rooster - Alice In Chains 5. Fuck Her Softly - Tenacious D (This song fucking cracks me up every time I hear it. I'm trying to get the other person in my band to cover it but I'm not sure if he will or not. Damn you. You know who you are.) I'm going to bug you till you cave. Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted June 7, 2003 (edited) I will not. Tenacious D is mindlessly amusing enough, "That's fuckin' teamwork" is the only line on the album that really makes me laugh, but covering them, even with a joke band, is just incredibly lame. If nothing else, we should strive to be better. Five songs that rule: Acid Bath-"Toubabo Koomi" King Crimson-"Frame by Frame" Slayer-"Die by the Sword" Pink Floyd-"A Saucerful of Secrets" Frank Zappa-"Apostrophe" Edited June 7, 2003 by Agent of Oblivion
Guest saturnmark4life Report post Posted June 7, 2003 Covering Tenacious D is unspeakably lame. I saw a band a few weeks back that were solid enough, but covered 'all my life' by the foo fighters. What's the fucking point?

"Covering Tenacious D is unspeakably lame." You wouldn't say that if you heard my band. We rule. As does Jack Black and Kyle. B. Brian Brunzell 0 Report post Posted June 7, 2003 Great choice on your #4 tune there, Oblivion. "Saucerful" is classic Floyd, especially the "Syncopated Pandemonium" section of the song. Sure, it sounds out of tune and out of time, but that's the genius of The Floyd. It's supposed to be that way. I still like its original title better though. I mean, how cool is "The MAssed Gadgets of Hercules?"
