Primary Problem w/UT

I agree with the fact that the gate numbers can determine a draw. But not TV or PPV gate numbers, they should never have a big problem there even when they really sucked a couple of months ago they still sold at least 2/3 of the building out. The true draw is the gate at the house shows which have sucked the meat missile lately. In July with UT as champion a house show in Wildwood NJ drew about 1500 people. That sucks plain and simple.

And you can not disregard PPV buyrates because that is the other big number. You can disregard TV ratings to an extent but PPV buyrates are the other big piece of the pie.

Taker only main evented two King of the Rings, and that was in 1997 and 2000.

He main evented in 2000 in a six-man tag with Kane and The Rock vs. HHH and the McMahons. So I guess that means that The Rock and HHH are bad draws, too.

Or maybe people didn't want to see Vince and Shane in the main event. Hmm, I wonder.

In 1997, it was with Faarooq. Gee, I wonder who tanked that buyrate...

No, it's NOT a factor.

Simply put, the people were sick of guys like Sid, Mabel, Diesel..and yes..Taker. (Damn, that sounds familiar..)

The nWo was something new, something different, and something cool.

and HS, stop nit-picking. You very well know what I mean by draw is the way the wrestling buisness interpets it. Something people want to see. This is not a movie, therefore the term "box offiice attraction" is no good.

Drawing Power in wrestling means people go to the arenas, people watch the shows, people buy Pay Per Views.

Steve Austin is a draw.

Billy Gunn is not a draw.

Do we understand?

Yes, Taker has his fans. But he's never been on the level of guys like Hogan in his heyday, Austin, or Rock. He was ALWAYS a "step below" the other guys. He didn't have the popularity, charisma, or yes..draw..that those guys did. He's only in the main event because of his size, and the fact he's a "locker room leader".

People may have bought PPV's, watched shows, bought tickets to see Taker..but the number compared to a Rock or Austin is nothing. Since he's in the Main Event, he should be held on the same level of those guys. And he does not measure up.

OK, here you go. Drawing power is drawing power. Main events draw people to watch television. They draw people to attend. They draw people to buy. Certain main eventers draw more than others and certain main eventers need to play off other to draw. House show attendance is far more important than TV. Comps numbers could be very high and without any concrete evidence, your argument is flawed.

The WWE in 1997 had changed how it was running shows. It was using smaller arenas than in 1996 or even 1998.

You can't simply say Taker MainEvented PPV Buy Rates don't count. If Taker/Sid were draws, then these PPVs would draw a good buy rate, right?

a question..

when it comes to PPV buyrates do you count the buildup to the PPV event? because if they didn't have the month going into the PPV match there would be less of a draw than it was.

Wrestlemania 12 1.2

Wrestlemania 13 .77 (Taker/Sid)

Wrestlemania 14 2.3

Granted 14 had Tyson's appearance but the year after did a 2.32 so I will give Austin most of the credit, maybe take .3 or .4 off for Tyson involvement. So to say UT is close to a big draw is absurd. And to say that Sid/UT was not the lowest drawing WM ever is equally absurd (12 was the previous low and they blew that away).

OK, some Sid Main Evented PPV Buy Rates:

In Your House

May 14, 1995 in Syracuse, NY

Onandaga War Memorial drawing 7,000 ($51,648)

Shown live on PPV (0.83)

In Your House #2

July 23, 1995 in Nashville, TN

Municipal Auditorium drawing 6,482 ($74,930)

Shown live on PPV (0.7)

International Incident

Shown live on PPV (0.37)

It's Time

December 15, 1996 in West Palm Beach, FL

Memorial Auditorium drawing 5,708 ($69,018)

Shown live on PPV (0.35)

Survivor Series '96

November 17, 1996 in New York City

Madison Square Garden drawing 18,647 ($529,522)

Shown live on PPV (0.58)

WrestleMania XIII

"Heat"

March 23, 1997 in Rosemont, IL

The Horizon drawing 18, 197 ($837,150)

Shown live on PPV (0.77)

Looking at those, I wouldn't say Sid was a HUGE draw.

I've got a question about live attendence: isn't it that usually the people buying the tickets for a big event like wrestlmania don't know who is main-eventing because that is how far in advance that the tickets are sold? Isn't the buyrates and ratings more of an indicator then?

See, I think the Taker is hanging on because from roughly 1992-96 he didn't hardly main event anything. He was just sort of hanging around. I can think of nothing from roughly Bret's first title run till Jan 1996 that Taker did.

Therefore, he fucked around for so many years during his prime and was never a consistent main eventer.....so now he desperately wants to stay on top.

I say Taker jobs here, then goes to the midcard.
