Has anyone else considered that it's not terrorism

I don't think it's unimportant, I just think that the good and the noble are the good and the noble, regardless of whether we evolved from primaeval sludge or God placed each one of us here individually with an extendable red and yellow Fisher-Price mechanical claw.

what if a certain religion was proved right, or all of them proved wrong?
Religions are based on faith and faith is not susceptible to proof or disproof; that is what makes it faith. The answer to your question is not only unknown but unknowable in this life.

I didn't mean proven correct by scientific method or anything, I'm talking straight-up divine intervention, plain as day, clear as crystal, for everyone to see.

Now, proving we evolved from primeval ooze via scientific method, there is a yes or no answer waiting somewhere in that, it's just a matter of finding it. My point, solving a question posed by human nature has huge implications in what we're doing and who we are.

Well, that straight-up plain as day clear as crystal divine intervention hasn't happened yet, and I don't think it's going to. And again, proving our origin would only make a difference to our understanding of our origin. Even if God Himself said torture and murder were fine, they would still be wrong. Our origin has no bearing - none - on how we should act.

Neither do I, although for an entirely different reason, I suspect.

Don't know really, you just come across as religious, not necessarily Christian or anything, just acknowledging the existence of a supreme being.. I'll post an example or two when I find it, I remember you mentioning there was only one thing capable of making real judgment of good and evil, I just took that to mean god.

I remember saying something like "There's only One Who is perfect" in response to someone stating that America isn't perfect. I don't think God is the only one who can distinguish between good and evil at all. I think God is irrelevant to morality, which makes me question how He's relevant at all. It's one of the many things I'm going to have to ask Him someday.

That's what it was, thanks for reminding me.

I was right, then?

I don't think so. I don't think there's much of a difference between saying a Supreme Being doesn't exist and saying not even a Supreme Being's dictates can determine morality. I can see Jesus as a moral guide, but I'm at a loss to explain God's role.

I think there's a bif difference in saying whether god does or doesn't exist, personally. His actions aren't really of any consequence in that respect, just a question of "Is he there?" Although I suppose that it can be argued that a sessile god is about as useful as no god, so I'll give you that.

As an aside, If I were god, I couldn't just sit there, I'd turn people's skin purple and orange for three days, then return it to normal, then make whoever mocked them go bald and sprout onions from their scalp. I'd be a trivial god, meddling in the lives of the devoutly religious with minor, but with very visible alterations.

I'd also smite Jerry Falwell with lightning bolts no less than 11 times per week. I wouldn't let him die though, just keep hittin' him with lightning.

I could go with that last.

<CRACKLE> "Hey Jesus, watch this one! She goes for the gold! Over the shoulder... will it hit?!"

<FZZZAP!!!> "YES! AND THE CROWD GOES WILD"

And then I'd just point and laugh. Jerry Falwell would look around, dazed, bewildered, and nicely crisped. Meanwhile, upstairs:

"You're such a show-off, Mom..."

Heh. I'd also interfere in football games. I'd come to earth in a human avatar form, and play RB and Linebacker for the Bears. Ironman football.

Man, if I had 3 wishes..lemme tell ya. Omnipotence, Omniscience, Immortality.

The world would be triangular.

Yep, SG is right. Why we're here has no bearing on what we should do.

1) Still, don't you think it's a pretty vital bit of information?

2) I mean, how did we get here, and why do we exist?

3) It's a question that's not getting answered in our lifetime or any other

1) No

2) Don't care

3) That's why.

Why spend time trying to find an answer you'll never get? You're setting yourself up for failure and wasting your time which could be better spent post whoring on the Net or something.

Marney, I have a quick question. You say this quote above, and yet you also have your sig quote about "fearing God". Maybe it's one too many crappy Italian beers, but these there seems to be a contradiction here. Please explain oh wise intellgence officer.....

The quote concerns retribution and judgement, both of which are in my job description. As I said in the NHB thread someone started about my sig,

It's a reminder: actions have consequences.

"Though the mills of God grind slowly, yet they grind exceeding small;

Though with patience He stands waiting, with exactness grinds He all."

I like the idea of God. I want it to be true. I just have a difficult time accepting that it is.

Yea, I hope God's really there. And also, I think during a football game, he should just throw one of those Sea-world killer whales at the players, and right before it hits, take it back, and make sure all the cameras malfunction, so there's no proof of anything actually happening. And not only that, but all the spectators blinked at the exact same time, so none of them saw it. Alls you would have are these football players freaking out over this giant dissapearing killer whale. See how they handle THAT!

Actually, I'm hoping for a Badger, but that's just me. Male or female, I don't care. Of course, maybe God is neither male nor female, and that could explain the whole war of the sexes thing, 'cause God would kinda be flying blind on the subject, assuming God can make a mistake. I mean, come on, create everything out of nothing and people expect you to be perfect. Sheesh. Of course, God could be both male AND female, in which case I'd be kinda concerned about how God decided to split up the sexes, I mean, that'd be kinda like me deciding I was gonna create a race of torso people and leg people. If I tried that, I'd be called a freak.

Of course, we could go the Lisa Simpson route, and just say we're a science project. I bet you he'd have an interesting Sources of Error paragraph, I can tell you that right now.

The whole thing I never understood about the bible is why everything was already etched in stone. Like why wouldn't god one day just say to himself, "gee I don't like the way the world is going, things need to change" and he commits some divine intervention. God would HAVE TO KNOW how devout we WOULD ALL become if he just did something mind-shattering that only a "god" could do. It just seems that GOD has unlimited resources, but fails to use them when it could benefit all of mankind.

Which supports one of two things:

1.God exists but does not interfere in our existence other than his role as creator.

2.God does not exist.

i'll go with number one. God allows us to live, that is all God needs to do. God gave us the freedom to make our own decisions. We have the right not even to accept him as our creator. When we (his children) have fucked up royally in the past, he punished us and left proof (The Flood). God definitly does exist, it's just your own decision to accept it.

What the bloody hell are you smoking! How can you POSSIBLY claim that a SIX MILLION YEAR-OLD geological structure formed by slow erosion is evidence for your 4000 year-old earth or your year-long flood?! How? How? For the love of God, HOW?
