Yet another I just got these tapes thread

Recommended Posts

Guest DragonflyKid

I ordered alot of tapes after visiting my Grandma and getting some cash.

Here are the tapes and any help would be appreciated. I ordered 14 tapes in all including a Liger comp, Ohtani comp, a Great Muta 3 vol. comp(Includes both Muta/Hase bloodbaths.), 3 AJ tv tapes from '93, J-Crown '96(Ohtani/U. Dragon match.), Ric Flair comp, and more. I got great service from all 3 dealers.

then. Disappointing. Complete match.)

TAPE 363

Quality: VG/EX

Length: 6 hrs (SLP)

TABE'S HISTORY OF MISAWA VS KOBASHI (Forget Misawa/Kawada, the best feud in

puroresu history is Misawa vs Kobashi. Their series of matches are

absolutely unmatched in terms of quality and drama. I've compiled all of

their matches available on video, including every one of their Triple Crown

matches, for this awesome video. Nearly every match on the tape is ****,

you will NOT be disappointed wit this one! Quality is VG/EX or better

on everything.)

Mitsuhara Misawa vs Kenta Kobashi, 4/5/91 (handheld)

MITSUHARA MISAWA VS KENTA KOBASHI, 4/12/93 (JIP)

MITSUHARA MISAWA VS KENTA KOBASHI, 3/26/95

MITSUHARA MISAWA VS KENTA KOBASHI, 10/25/95

MITSUHARA MISAWA VS KENTA KOBASHI, 3/31/96

MITSUHARA MISAWA VS KENTA KOBASHI, 1/20/97 (Misawa wins the Triple Crown

in this incredible ****3/4 classic!)

MITSUHARA MISAWA VS KENTA KOBASHI, 4/19/97

MITSUHARA MISAWA VS KENTA KOBASHI, 10/21/97

Mitsuhara Misawa & Takao Omori vs Kenta Kobashi & Jinsei Shinzaki,

10/24/98 (Kobashi debuts the Burning Hammer and pins Misawa! -

clips)

MITSUHARA MISAWA VS KENTA KOBASHI, 10/31/98 (Absolutely amazing match,

as both guys pull out one great move after another. ***** match,

easily one of the best matches you'll ever see! Misawa wins the

Triple Crown)

MITSUHARA MISAWA VS KENTA KOBASHI, 6/11/99 (Take everything I said about

the 10/31/98 match and expand on it! Another *AMAZING* match, this

is the pinnacle of the AJ "head-dropping" style! *****

must-see!)

MITSUHARA MISAWA VS KENTA KOBASHI, 4/11/00 (Kobashi finally gets a

singles win over Misawa that's released on video - his three

previous wins not being available. Good stuff. This is the rare, full version

of this match. This goes a long way to showing how the All Japan head-dropping

style was dead by this point. They do a ridiculous number of head drops that

are kicked out of and the crowd will basically pop for nothing else. Still,

this is a good match.)

Tiger Mask II vs Kenta Kobashi, 3/6/90 (Finally! I've found a copy of this match!

This is so fun, as both guys work a style totally different from their later

matches. They are both a lot trimmer than their later years and are moving

great here. It's scary to see Kobashi in this match as he looks EXACTLY like

Akira Taue here. ***1/2 or so.)

Few comments:

The Jumbo tapes are a good set to intorduce you to his early work. The Funk and Race matches on tape 2 are classics.

The Misawa/Kobashi tape is decent but Kobashi after 1995 would get way too much on my nerves.

The Joshi tapes look like good introductions as well.

For the 14 tapes I paid around $160, alot of the tapes are comps with 5/6 hours on them.

I'm watching the Michinoku Pro comp first, I've watched the first three matches and like it alot, although I still prefer the AJPW HW style. The Sasuke/TigerMask IV/Shiryu vs. Delphin/Naniwa/Michinoku(3/16/96) was great.

Just be glad you got the 11/26/92 match. It's by far the best match on all of those tapes.

Yeah, and.....?

I don't think 10/10 would make my Top 50, honestly. More of a 'FUN' match, rather than a classic one like 11/26.

Dream Rush is considered the best match of all time by a great number of people, Dandy. Michinoku Pro, while one of my favorite promotions to watch at its peak, just doesn't come into the realm of being as good as that. Like woverine said, "fun spot-fu" and "better than 11/26/92" are two entirely different things.

I was away for over 4 days and have only gotten to watch the Michinoku pro comp and most of the Shinjiro Ohtani: Premium Issue*.

The Michinoku Pro tape was loads of fun, the These Days 10-man was great and I can see both sides of peoples' opinion of it. On one hand it is highly entertaining an can be a ***** match to someone and a ***** for the spot-fest type match it was. On the other hand it lacked the depth of alot of the AJ classics I have seen, on an overall scale it probably isn't a ***** match to me but certainly over ****.

So far I love Ohtani, he's not only a great wrestler but his antics are great. It's one thing to act like a prick, it's another thing to pull it off the way he does. The average match on the tape is clipped to a little over 5 minutes so I am able to get a sense of Ohtani but want to get more footage of his work. I will be watching 2 of his matches with Lygar(6/6/94 and 11/4/95)next and will be ordering his '97 matches with Lygar later as I have heard they are classics.

I was wondering if anyone can explain the 11/26/92 match to me(Wolverine maybe?) since I will be watching the tape with that match next. Is there any backstory I should know about? I won't have the chance to watch any of the lead-in matches if there are any before I watch the 11/26 match but are there any that I should seek out and watch later on before watching 11/26 again? I know Kawada/Misawa 6/3/94 is considered one of the best ever only after one has a grasp of their history, does 11/26 require a knowledge of their history as well?

*Shinjiro Ohtani Premium Issue

1. Ohtani vs Koji Kanemoto (6-23-95)

2. Ohtani vs Koji Kanemoto (9-14-98)

On the Shinjiro Ohatani tape the NJ people or whoever releashed the tape are the one's who have it as Lygar. I have never seen his name spelled that way anywhere else and I kinda like it. Or maybe I should just call him Ryger. :P

I'll be checking out the AirRaidCrash site before I watch the 11/26, thanks for the link.

I just finished watching the 12/6/92 Ozaki/Kansai vs. Toyota/Yamada match and it was amazing. I would rate it if I had to at ****3/4 because there were some imperfections but the sheer emotion and workrate still puts this as my second favorite tag match behind 6/9/95. I will be watching it again today then watching their 12/6/93 rematch afterwards which I also hear was great but not on the level of this match.

I was thinking how the people who thought the Trish/Molly/Victoria match yesterday on Raw was good would have their minds blown by watching 11/26/92. I did like the Raw women's match but the two are incomparable.

The rematch after 11/26/92 was their Dreamslam II match (4/11/93) which isn't in the same league as the first. Their third match on 12/6/93 is by far the lowest of the three matches.

I just watched 12/6/93 and if that was the lowest of the three matches I have to track down 4/11/93 because I thought 12/6 was great(****1/2+).

Next comes 9/2/95 Hokotu vs. Toyota which wasn't even listed on the matchlist but is one of DVD's top 20 Joshi matches of the 90's(#14).

Shit, going from 11/26/92 to 9/2/95 is like going from Monet to "Dogs Playing Poker."

I fucking hate that match.

Lighting a turd on fire and watching it simmer would be less torture than having to sit through that 9/2 match again. And that's the goddamn truth.
